Amelia Bedelia was given a new look in the 21st century, but the very first book, and Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping, will always be my favorites. Ah, childhood memories! I'm pretty sure I tried to “dress the chicken“ and “draw the drapes“ at least once during childhood. 😆

I leave them open on my phone until I accidentally close them & yell, “SHIT!” 😅🙈💩
I know there‘ve gotta be better systems. I‘d love an app that stores them *and* reminds me to read them. Otherwise it‘s very much “out of sight, out of mind.”

The to do list is written out for her to complete while they are gone. Without realizing, she completes every task literally rather than the way Mrs. Rogers meant it. Amelia thinks she has done a great job but when they return, the Rogers disagree.

I have a problem when it comes to humor in books. I gravitate towards the serious drama. Maybe I should go with the last book that I found wry in a self-deprecating way--A REUNION OF GHOSTS by Judith Claire Mitchell. Instead I return to childhood, and the delight I found in Amelia Bedelia's creativity. (Also maybe a little dread, cos I could be a rules stickler. 😱). I thought these books were hysterical as a kid. Today, it reads like people are talking very awkwardly to Amelia just so she'll have something to misunderstand. "These chairs need to be painted. Give them two coats each." So she goes to the coat closet ...
It reads like a ten-year-old telling you a really long joke, where you could have figured out the punchline yourself if the kid hadn't telegraphed it the whole way.
