Mixed feelings with this one. Abigail had a one night stand with a stranger before her wedding. A man she thought would never see again. She married with Mr. Perfect who took her to an isolated unique luxury camp. Then, she sees the stranger man and things will happen. Does she know her husband? Well, I liked the beginning of the story and the mystery. But then the ending was unrealistic, expected? Yes, at least for me. 3⭐️

Peter Swanson always gets me. Well, this is only the second book of him I read and he's already become a new favourite author.
His writing sucks me right in – he writes so (seemingly) effortlessly, such great character descripions and thrilling, twisty plots.
In the beginning, Abigail felt a lot like me.
A suspenseful, thrilling ride of toxic masculinity leading to a honeymoon of hell.

Yuki_Onna This was my April #Bookspin book. I don't write reviews for all the #Bookspin or #Doublespin picks I manage to read, but this one called for a quick shout out... 😁

This book was so fun and I loved it! I seen a lot of reviews that said, "It was so much fun.. but I guessed the twist.. or it won't be memorable.." And yes I guessed the twist, it was super obvious. But also I thought the author was really good at planting seeds of doubt in your mind. Yes it was super obvious. But it was FUN. I had a great time reading it, and isn't that the point of reading a book? 5/5 stars!

While at B&N a couple of weeks ago I noticed a new Peter Swanson book. I was reminded that I still needed to read his previous one, Every Vow You Break. Aspiring writer Abigail is busy with wedding preparations when she notices someone in a cafe that she had a one night fling with during her bachelorette party across the country the previous week. He reappears at her honeymoon on an island off the coast of Maine where she is cut off from the👇

vivastory outside world & the staff is overly attentive. I recall when this was released that several others said this was their least favorite Swanson. I have now read 4 books by him & I would have to agree. It felt subpar for a writer that I expect more from. Although I will say it was nice to read a thriller that wasn't twist after twist & I read the whole book in a little over a day. A soft pick. Looking forward to Nine Lives! 8mo

On their honeymoon she sees him there did he follow her there why is he even here! But then she notices why isn‘t there a lot of people here and why are there so much men! I wasn't blown away by this book. But it wasn't horrible either.. just okay. I think my main problem with it is that the plot was great but the pacing was all wrong. Like others have said before me, good idea, poor execution. I'll round up to 3 stars.

I‘m a bit surprised at the low-ish rating on Goodreads/Litsy. Yes, the plot was a bit ridiculous, but wow this was a page turner! I flew through this one! Despite her indiscretion you can really root for Abigail as she goes on her honeymoon on this remote island. I could tell things were off with Bruce from the beginning & was eager to see how it all panned out. The end was kind of sudden. I wanted more! I‘ll be reading more Peter Swanson!

A bride's bachelorette fling shows up at the island where she & her husband are honeymooning. An intriguing premise, a mysterious setting, a plot thickening into a Hitchcockian vibe - yet I almost put this one down several times. The text was repetitive, like he was trying to meet a minimum word count & read like a grocery list, detailing things that did nothing to move the plot forward. Parts were very creepy, but I was a bit disappointed. 3.5

tokorowilliamwallace O.o Hitchcockian! I like Hitchcockian! Do tell more! 12mo
BookDragonNotWorm @tokorowilliamwallace This one had a strong sense of surreal suspense and the plot takes a bizarre turn, but the writing is very weak compared to his other works. Most of his have Hitchcockian vibes, "The Kind Worth Killing" is my favorite. "Do Not Disturb" by Frieda McFadden is an homage to Hitchcock (and Robert Bloch) with the same premise as Psycho but some unexpected plot deviations that keep it fresh. 12mo

I read this months ago and I can't tell you a single character name. What I can tell you is I hated this book. A man brings his new bride to a secluded island where only other men are staying. They decide it's a good idea to chase and hunt her on the island like twisted horror story adulterer hunger games. The attitudes of the male characters in this book were so bad I finished it just so I could say how much I hated it. I don't recommend it.

I usually love Peter Swanson's over-the-top psych thrillers but this one didn't quite work for me. I liked the concept in general but the suspense didn't build for me in the way his books usually do, and I found the twists less shocking. Not bad, though! A quick palate cleanser. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Is this a “good” book? Mmm, no I wouldn‘t say it‘s particularly well written, doesn‘t have great characters, and the plot is ludicrous. But…but…I had fun reading it and pretty much devoured it in one fell swoop. Plus, it was odd and unexpected, which I like. Points for originality and readability. I was entertained, even if I did keep thinking I‘m not sure WHY I‘m entertained 😂 It‘s a story about infidelity/revenge/survivorship. #beachreading

I've said it before & I will say it again, Litsy needs a “WTF“ option for books that are batshit crazy but compulsively readable. I blew through this entire book in one evening because I did not want to put it down - despite the fact that no one was particularly likable, the plot was completely unbelievable, every twist just made the story more absurd, & the more I think about it the more questions I have... But I couldn't stop reading!! ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Does that make it a Pick or a Pan? 2* or 4*? Do I rate it on whether I would recommend it to others or on how much I wanted to keep reading when I was reading it? It's hard to say, so I guess I'm just going middle of the ground for my rating. If you don't mind thrillers that are just genuinely over-the-top ridiculous, this may be the read for you 😂 1y

Ok, so I enjoyed the last third of this book. That's when the book felt like a thriller to me and where I didn't know what was going to happen and where I kinda felt on the edge of my seat. However, the first 2/3 of this book felt a bit boring, even annoying. It kept me slightly interested in wanting to find out what happens, so I didn't DNF it, but it didn't have much action or thriller vibes. So a definite so-so for me.

I want to start off by saying that I did enjoy this read. I thought the tone kept the suspense and gave a gothic feeling to the setting. The description of the island is bitter-sweet, it is beautiful and disturbing and made me constantly battle with myself whether or not I would have loved the location. I also thought that the protagonist was quite intelligent and wasn't all that naive considering the circumstances. But the plot was predictable.

There are quite a few people that didn‘t care for this and it does feel like a departure from his other works, so I can see why they didn‘t. How did I feel...well, I didn‘t love it. It did feel a little “out there” and slightly preposterous. But, I didn‘t hate it, either. It held my interest despite these issues...it was even kind of fun, in an odd kind of kill-y way.

I‘ve enjoyed all of Peter Swanson‘s books that I‘ve read so far and this was no exception. The reviews are mostly mixed, but I would recommend this when you‘re in the mood to not think too much and just escape for a few hours. It‘s a quick read that can be read in a day. The first half is a little slow but the chapters are short so it still seems to fly by. The action really picks up in the 2nd half and I had a hard time putting it down. Some ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 People think it strains the lines of credulity but I‘m reminded every day that the world truly is a crazy place and I don‘t think it‘s out of the realm of possibility. Rich people make the world go round, after all. Don‘t overthink it and just enjoy the ride! 4⭐️ 2y
