Another one from #TheVault. (That‘s what I‘m calling my overflowing Kindles.) A very light pick. I figured out the twist pretty early on and found the resolution to be too hasty. Still it was a quick, entertaining read that was more courtroom drama than murder mystery.

I got a pic of Dieter yawning and it‘s my fave thing in the world. I‘ve definitely lost some reading momentum, so plugging away, very slowly, on the tagged. Library books are languishing but I will not let it get me down.

Woman chooses to represent her ex in a homicide case. I enjoyed this legal thriller. The ending surprised me. Book 64 4⭐️

It was okay but pretty basic. It was an easy read but predictable. If i can figure out the twist halfway thru the book then there isnt any real shock value to the suspense. I wouldnt read again and it didnt leave me feeling glad that i read it either. I give it a just so so and feel like skipping this read wont feel like you are missing anything.

The first 100 pages were tedious, but then it got better.

I loved this book so much! This was a novel that had the reader thinking they knew what was going on and then within a few pages their mind will be blown! Mine was definitely blown! I love a book that just shocks me and has me wondering what I just read! I will be reading every book that Alafair Burke has written and any future novels!

I enjoyed the book but had the ending figured out almost immediately. Still a pretty good story though!

Jack Harris is a widower accused of a triple homicide, in which one of the victims is related to his wife‘s murder from years before. Despite heaps of evidence, Jack is proclaiming his innocence. And his ex-girlfriend is going to help him.

Even if she is starting to have her own doubts.

Fast paced and an easy read, but I figured everything out before even getting beyond the beginning.

This book was just ok for me. The story moves along at a good pace but the ending really let it down. Still an ok read.

Well done again Alafair! I figured it out 2/3 through but this book was well executed. I'll continue to come back for more from this author.

Author Alafair Burke is for fans of Law & Order.

Okay, oops, bad picture framing...this novel is by Alafair Burke, and I can call it a pick, because it has an interesting plot, and it reads quickly, but I can only give it about 3.5 stars. Burke has talent: she‘s a good writer who comes up with good plots. It‘s only that in this one, I saw every twist miles before I got there. A lawyer is called to defend an ex she hasn‘t seen in years, and their past gets in the way of her judgment. ⬇️

I don‘t want my lukewarm rating to discourage anyone else from reading this book. This is the literary version of Law & Order- easy, predictable, and often enjoyable.

This one was hard to put down! I wasn‘t really surprised by the ending but it was still really good!

I was right, this one kept me up entirely too late. It was really hard to put down. And it kept me guessing almost to the very end. Those stories are hard to find.

Just an exciting Friday night, with a fuzzy blanket and my library books. I think this one might keep me up late.

It started out strong, then lost me somewhere in the middle. I was slightly disappointed with the writing style and found myself skimming parts. I wanted to find out what happened, but I figured it out way before it was revealed. I still enjoyed the book overall, but was disappointed it wasn‘t as good as I was expecting!

When the battery in your playaway dies ON YOUR DRIVE TO WORK, you must go on your break to buy more so you can find out what happens next!

This book started out strong, but the last few chapters have reminded me why I don‘t usually choose books about lawyers...blaaaaah my mind always wanders....Tonight I keep thinking about what book I should read next 🤣

Great way to spend a Friday morning!

I‘ll admit that I figured a bit of this one out, but it‘s still hard to put down.. Great ending! Possibly one of my favorite authors !

I really enjoyed this book even if it took me longer to read than I would have liked. I didn't see the twist coming at the end of this book at all. Can't wait to read more from this author!

Great read!!! The plot twists in this book keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you've figured it out, something changes. And the ending?? Completely surprising!! Definitely a must read.

I enjoyed this but suspected the killer relatively early. I liked the narrator.

I loved this book! Slow start but once I got into it I couldn't put it down!

Ok, quite literal for today's prompt. Another from my TBR list. (It might be time to do some spring cleaning of this list!!)

When I started reading this, it was a slow start. I was hoping it would get me out of a "book slump" and it was looking dim. Then I started actually engaging with the characters, who ended up being really likable, even the antagonist. I was not expecting the twists, even down to the last chapter. If you are looking for a good read with an unpredictable ending, this is your pick!

How do I brighten up a Sunny Monday, stuck inside the office with a "beach hangover" after an awesome weekend away? Fun pants and the book I forgot to pack in my carry on. Need some suggestions for good beach reads for my upcoming island getaway!!

Loved Alafair's voice. A forty-something lawyer finds herself defending her ex boyfriend for murder. He had been nice to her while she was harsh and unfair. She can't believe he is guilty. Cool twists and turns but what made it most enjoyable was the main character, who was just that. A character :)

Just finished this on audio and it was ok. The suspense didn't really ramp up until the last few chapters. It did keep me guessing most of the way through. I had a completely wrong theory about what happened until just shortly before the reveal.

Can't say I understand the cover art, but the book is fantastic. Excellent mystery.

Eh. The mystery wasn't that mysterious, and I felt like all the characters were caricatures instead. The ending was both predictable and felt like it came out of nowhere, which isn't a great combo. Not terrible but there are better thrillers out there.
