pickCharacters were absolutely awesome.
This wasn't just a thriller: there was a lot of scenes handling family relationships / broken family. But the mystery was there all the time and I was intrigued to know more.
This wasn't really original story, it was devastatingly easy to guess the most important things. I have to admit that I was expecting some great twist.
Captivating and entertaining to read.

panThis book was dreadful for me. The main characters are awful. The way the addict was portrayed was very stereotypical, and poorly written. The book was very flat and very predictable. I knew the outcome at about the 40% mark. The family dynamic was absolutely terrible, and hardly got better.

I'm a fan of family dramas and this family has their fair share- the end wasn't a complete shocker but I didn't guess it super early on. I thought maybe some of the storyline stretched beyond what I believe people would do IRL but then, people do the craziest shit sometimes, so what do I know? Lol

$5 cafe book centered around Jack the Ripper for the spooky vibes, a nonfiction travel book for inspiration, and TTPD on vinyl. Love a good trip to B & N. My wallet does not 🤨
pickThis book is an excellent example of why I sometimes give authors a second chance, even if I dislike one of their books. I was not a fan of Rose's The Perfect Couple, but I really felt there was a lot of potential in her writing. I really enjoyed Home is Where the Bodies Are.
pick10-5-24: My 35th finished book of 2024! When their mother passes, Beth, Nicole & Michael return home to sort through what is left behind. After finding a box filled with VHS tapes and choosing one at random from the summer of 1999 reveals a major secret unearthed the trio start to investigate how something this awful could have happened right under their noses. Told from all 3 perspectives and their mom‘s from 1999, this one kept me guessing.

so-so⭐️⭐️ A family drama / thriller with all the usual types of characters. Too many convenient coincidences for me and the resolution was anticlimactic. A other one where the cover grabbed me. #coverlove

Secrets and rivalries come about as they try to figure out the truth behind their parents‘ actions. Had me hooked from the beginning! My first by this author but not my last!

so-soTogether for their mothers funeral, Beth, Nicole and Michael find out their parents kept a neighborhood child's death hidden. They try to figure out why their parents hid the death - were they involved? If not, who was? Told from multiple POVs and all POVs move story forward (not each ones view of the same event). Sort of knew where it was headed, but still a good read. Read one other book by this author which I DNF'd so this was much better!

pickThis is the epitome of a popcorn thriller to me…which isn‘t a bad thing! It‘s easy and exciting and holds the attention until the end. What it isn‘t is surprising….I had no issues figuring out the surprise from nearly the beginning. I read a lot of twisty thrillers so it might just be that, but either way it didn‘t seem hard to figure out. But I still enjoyed it and I LOVED THE COVER!! Will definitely read more from the author. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
pick⭐️⭐️⭐️A campy and predictable thriller. But that didn‘t make it any less enjoyable. This story is about 3 grown siblings who discover a crime committed by their parents on an old VHS tape. Great palate cleanser if you are in a reading slump. Can be read in one sitting!

pickThree siblings come together for their mother‘s funeral and all the secrets make their way to the forefront. Lots of missing people, a VHS tape and sibling rivalry makes for an interesting story but nothing groundbreaking. A soft pick.

Todays mini haul / did I need these things?
I wasn‘t trying to buy this Jeneva Rose book (I like her more than I like her writing 🤦🏻♀️) but I found the one with the bloody handprint (& I know that‘s a THING) & red edges. & the graphic edges on Toni Adeyemi‘s book called to me, they are in Walmart edition blue. I just bought the 1st book at the used bookstore last week. Haven‘t read it yet. Hopefully I like it 😂
pickOverall, a good book. Hubby & I listened to the audiobook. Multiple narrators and it was well done.

pickI listened to this as an audiobook. I almost did not as I do not like audiobooks with multiple narrators however, the three people that narrated this book did a really good job. I also thought this was supposed to be scary, but it was more about family, secrets, and grief.
pickYes! What a good mystery and very entertaining. I love a good psychological thriller, especially when there‘s an unreliable character! Fast paced, easy to read, and hard to put down. Book #57 in 2024
pickI would give this 3.5 stars out of 5. It wasn't bad for a book I bought purely because I like the cover (I collect VHS tapes). There were a few things that kind of annoyed me, author repeating some narratives, and every time she mentioned a television, she had to call it a "tube tv." It's not a big deal, just something that bugged me. But I was hooked to the story and probably would recommend it to someone interested in family related mysteries.
Just started this one and today‘s date was mentioned. This has happened to me one other time that I can recall. Kind of makes me feel like my mood reading has led me to the right one ☺️

pan2.5/5🌟 - I really wanted to like this book. After all it appeals to the nostalgia of growing up in the 90‘s and home movies recorded on VHS tapes. The book also takes place in a small town in Wisconsin, the same state that I live, and there were a lot of familiar things about the town and the general scenery of the state. But the killer was too easy to predict and the mystery of it all kind of fell flat.

panThis on was boring. Seriously, a snooze fest. I had predicted everything that was going to happen way before it did. It was obvious if you're an avid thriller reader. I didn't think any of the characters were likable in any way. The story would also go on random tangents, too, that didn't have much to do with the story. It's just a very dull story. 2/5
so-soIm not sure i would even call this a thriller. It moved so slow and the ending for me wasnt as heart pounding as the reviews made it seem. The chapters alternate between Nicole, Beth, Michael and Laura so you do get different perspectives. There was a twisty ending but it just took so long to get there. The ending did tie everything up so there‘s no guessing at what happened or a weird cryptic ending. I can‘t see myself recommending this one!
so-soHere‘s the thing. Everything about this screams horror novel. I was really looking forward to that. What it is however, is a family drama with (finally) some tension at the end… but after a weird out-of-place romance scene. So maybe I set myself up for disappointment…. Oh well.
so-soFor all the hype this book is presently receiving, it was just okay. I figured out who the killer was early on. It's another book where I disliked everyone. Is unlikeable characters the new trend? If so, it's not working for me.

pickA very entertaining family drama/thriller with some very great writing. Siblings return home upon their mother‘s death and unlock so very dark family secrets. This was a fast paced read and refreshing as I‘ve read a number of meh books lately. I did have a guess at the ending though so 4.5⭐️
Also this Barnes & Noble special edition is so cool!
The blurb on this one is giving me How To Sell A Haunted House vibes. From what i remember i enjoyed that book so fingers crossed on this one.
pickI may or may not have gotten the B&N signed special edition and the Walmart edition. Another Jeneva Rose thriller to love. This one is fast-paced and could be read in a day or two. Trying to get along with your estranged siblings through grief isn‘t easy, especially when you discover your parents kept an awful secret!
