The Color of Magic | Terry Pratchett

Mehso-so

Oh my goodness! I did it! I wasn't sure I was going to be able to finish this book while on vacation.

This was my first book in the Discworld series. There was a lot of world building and strange things happening. I admit, I was confused the majority of the time. I enjoyed the wit, the setting, and how it ended. But for the life of me, I can't explain what the story was about. 3⭐️

Lost Lake | Sarah Addison Allen

Mehso-so

It has been a while since I've read a Sarah Addison Allen book, and sadly, it was not my favorite. Don't get me wrong, it was charming and sweet, but I was not too enthralled with it like her other works. 3⭐️

Finally got to read this one and it was cute!
I loved the character development of the MC and I really enjoyed the children. There were some parts that I thought were cheesy, but hey it was still heartwarming. 4 ⭐️

Bailedbailed

This is the second Sarah Waters book that I tried to listen to, and I couldn't get past 4 hours.
She's not for me.

@JacqMac @Andrew65 @Megabooks

If you're wondering where to start with Jane Austen, this quiz may help! https://bookriot.com/first-jane-austen-book-quiz/

#authoramonth2024 @Soubhiville

Andrew65 Thanks for this, it‘s pushing me to Northanger Abbey, which is possibly the one I was going to start with. Kismet! 1y
jenniferw88 @Andrew65 I also think Northanger Abbey would be a good fit for you. We both like mysteries, and Northanger Abbey is possibly my favourite Austen (I've re-read her several times, so I'm probably going to finish reading her letters instead). It's close between this and Sense and Sensibility, but Rickman, as Brandon, has A LOT to do with this 😆 1y
Megabooks It‘s telling me this one and the storygraph‘s AI is saying I‘ll like it too so maybe… 🤔🤔 1y

Megabooks Thanks for the link! 1y
JacqMac Thank you! It says I should read Emma. I keep trying to read Austin, but I can never get through them. I have never tried Emma though. 1y
jenniferw88 @JacqMac, do you like the matchmaking trope? Emma is perfect if you do! Austen does describe her as a character not many people will like, however, but she does grow on you. The book used to be #6 in my order of favourites. It's now #4. 1y
jenniferw88 @Megabooks, just be aware that Mansfield Park has Mrs Norris, who is, for fans of Austen's works, one of her most hated characters. She's a bit like Professor Umbridge from HP. 1y
jenniferw88 @JacqMac I must admit that Emma contains my favourite love declaration in it out of all her works! 1y
Soubhiville Oh my gosh what perfect timing! Thank you for sharing this! 1y
BarkingMadRead I got Persuasion. P&P is my fave but maybe I will read this one instead! 1y
CatLass007 I have an audio collection of Jane Austen‘s novels. I think I‘m just going to read them in the order in which they‘re presented. So Emma is first. I have to confess that as many times as I‘ve watched Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, with side trips to Alan Rickman in Sense & Sensibility and Ciara‘s Hinds in Persuasion, I‘ve never read an entire Austen novel. I decided that I needed to rectify this ASAP. I don‘t really like the narrator (cont)⬇️ 1y
CatLass007 in the omnibus edition, so I‘m listening to Emma as narrated by Jenny Agutter. Emma is interesting because she‘s so much in denial about what she really wants. I‘ve only listened to about 25% of it but that seemed obvious to me almost from the beginning. 1y
BookwormAHN I got Northanger Abby, that should work for me 😺 1y
IndoorDame I got Persuasion. I‘d been thinking I should reread Mansfield Park since I‘m in the middle of Godmersham Park right now, but it‘s been ages since I read Persuasion and that might be perfect! 1y
gossamerchild Persuasion is the BEST. I mean, aside from P&P 🤣. This is Gina be tricky for me, because I've read all her finished works. Maybe I'll read Sandition. Or Northanger Abbey, as it is my least favorite. Tricky tricky 🤨 1y
Bklover I got Sense and Sensibility, but I‘m thinking Emma because I like my copy of Emma. 🤷‍♀️ I do, however , like the idea of an Umbridge, @jenniferw88 Gonna have to think about it! (edited) 1y
SconsinBookyBadger P&P is the only Austen I‘ve read. I might go with Mansfield Park that was chosen from bookriot quiz. 1y
AmyG I am going to read Emma as I have never read it…and I own it. 1y
erzascarletbookgasm @Megabooks It says I should read Mansfield Park too! 😄 1y
perfectsinner Mansfield Park 1y
Karisimo This was a fun quiz! I took it out of curiosity because I‘ve already read all her works. It gave me Emma! 1y
Gissy So fun that quiz...and the result was....Northanger Abbey, no idea what it is about🤷🏽‍♀️☺️ 1y
Laughterhp I got Persuasion! It‘s one I‘ve never read before, so I‘ll give it a try! 1y
