vivastory I highly recommend Copper Canyon Press. They publish a pretty wide array, from contemporary to translated. There's a lot of samples available on their website. I also recommend the poetry foundation site. They have literally thousands of poems available, but it's very easy to navigate. 4y
coffeewithbooks Thank you all for the suggestions I will check them out 4y

MolliesaurusRex

Guys. I‘m about to get REAL vulnerable right now, but I need some serious help/advice/book suggestions... as I‘ve mentioned in previous posts, I have two stepdaughters (ages 5 & 6). As any of you can imagine or know from experience, it is HARD. (Continued in comments) #stepmother #stepmothertroubles #helpme #advice #booksuggestions #cryforhelp

MolliesaurusRex So obviously I deal with a lot of the regular struggles of “you‘re not my mom” and whatever. But 6 also has incredibly high anxiety. Not diagnosed, at least not yet, but as someone with an anxiety diagnosis who has looked back on my own issues as a child and realized that my anxiety was where they stemmed from, I recognize the same things in her. 5y
MolliesaurusRex Lately, she has been throwing explosive fits and become very violent with her father and I. It‘s only with us, though. Not their mother. Not their grandparents. Not in school. Just at our house (or in our car, apparently). It starts the moment she doesn‘t get her way, & it‘s gotten so bad that, following tonight‘s outburst.... 5y
MolliesaurusRex ...my arm is swollen and covered in bruises (luckily that‘s all she could reach; I should also mention that the swelling and bruising is even after ice has been applied). Her mother isn‘t cooperative with us, instead choosing to blame their father for everything because it makes her feel better about the situation. 5y
See All 6 Comments
MolliesaurusRex We‘re getting them into counseling as soon as humanly possible (they‘re currently on 3 different waiting lists and we‘re doing everything we can to turn at least one of those into an appointment), but in the meantime, I need help. We can‘t keep doing this. Neither of us knows what to do anymore. So literally anything you guys have for us will be so incredibly appreciated.❤️ you‘re all an awesome community to be part of.❤️❤️ 5y
Chrissyreadit @MolliesaurusRex please feel free to email me and give me more info. I just saw this. I‘m sure I can give you some resources and strategies, I just need some additional info. (I am a clinical behavior specialist and primarily work with children- all my info would be to tide you over and keep you safe while waiting for counseling though) 5y
MolliesaurusRex @Chrissyreadit that‘s honestly all we‘re trying to do right now. I absolutely will reach out to you. Thank you so so much.❤️❤️❤️ 5y

Anybody have book suggestions for any of the #readharder categories? The ones pictured and the ones that aren‘t pictured. #readharder #booksuggestions

Aimeesue Every time I see “AOC” these days, I think of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Made this list a little confusing. 😂 5y
Aimeesue The Poet X, Woman AOC, ; Fox 8, George Saunders, animal POV (and short!); Why I Jump, neurodiverse; (edited) 5y
Vexingcircumstance @Aimeesue I actually own Why I Jump. I‘ve had it for years. It was a gift from a friend and I haven‘t read it. 5y
Vexingcircumstance @Aimeesue someone on Instagram said the same thing about AOC and they also said they wanted to read a book about Ocasio-Cortez in Space. And as soon as I read that I was like “damn now so do i” 5y
Aimeesue @Vexingcircumstance Now so do I! I say we put AOC in charge of the “Space Force.” Then we‘ve got a shot at having such a force be able to accomplish anything worthwhile. 😄 5y

Question for all the #AgathaChristie fans out there. I've always been interesting in her and her books, but there are SO many of them it's hard to know where to start. I don't know if there is an order they're supposed to go in or if you can just jump in wherever. Any suggestions would be awesome. #suggestions #wheretostart #guidanceneeded #booksuggestions

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Good question! 5y
Faibka I would say, just jump in! I think I started with “Murder on the Orient Express” and went on from there in no particular order. However you feel like it should be good :) (edited) 5y
GingerAntics @Faibka okay just so I know there isn't a specific order they're supposed to go in. @Riveted_Reader_Melissa have you read any of them or are you kind of in the same position as I am? 5y
See All 15 Comments
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Nope, I‘ve never read any either. I was thinking of jumping in with the one nominated for the Great American Read, figuring that must be her best if it was nominated and therefore if I was going to like her writing that would be a great barometer. 5y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa oh I hadn't thought of that approach. That makes a lot of sense. 5y
Faibka @GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa “And Then...” is definitely one of her best. “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” would be me my second favorite but you don‘t get to understand her brilliance until the very end of it and then your jaw drops. I‘ve seen some readers approach her work chronologically but I‘ve decided I have such little time and she wrote so much that I rather tackle her best work. That‘s just personal preference. Good luck and enjoy! 5y
GingerAntics @Faibka it's funny you mention that. I was thinking of taking it chronology since that's how I usually approach things, but then I looked at the sheer volume of her works that thought that might not be the best course of action. I'm not sure anyone could get to it all. 5y
Faibka @GingerAntics yes, and to be honest not all of them are great (not that I claim to have read all of course) and might deter someone from enjoying the best ones. The other advantage of “And then...” is that it‘s a standalone. If reading her detective Poirot series it might be better to start with the first book that introduces the character 5y
GingerAntics @Faibka I've seen a few of those, that's what made me wonder if there were several series or if most are stand alone. 5y
Faibka @GingerAntics I should say first I‘m in no way a Christie expert, but yes, I would say her most famous ones are from her series featuring Poirot and then the series featuring Ms. Marple 5y
GingerAntics @Faibka I'm actually finding several of her most famous ones for free on Apple Books, so I don't see why I can't explore her. With her large body of work, I can imagine it would be hard to be a Christie expert. 5y
Faibka @GingerAntics I agree, that would require a lot of time and devotion! It‘s great that you can find them for free, and yes it‘s very much worth while. “And then...” is hauntingly atmospheric and can give you a good feel for her work with the only drawback that reading her best might downgrade the rest but there are many other good ones. You can also start with the first books on her series and then jump to the better ones. 5y
GingerAntics @Faibka that is a thought. If they series don't require a complete adherence to the order after a certain point that opens the door to picking and choosing to make the most of the time available. 5y
Faibka @GingerAntics that‘s kind of my philosophy since I‘m not planning on reading the entirety of her work and I have so many other reads. Of the Poirot ones I‘ve read I didn‘t feel impaired but not having read the previous ones, only maybe in a mention of a character here or there, if I remember right. You can later check out the BBC TV adaptation starting David Suchet as Poirot, brilliantly done! 5y
GingerAntics @Faibka oh I've heard the BBC adaptation is just brilliant. That's part of why I want to read some of her work. 5y

Kristin Hannah has done it again. The Great Alone is a beautiful, engaging and immersive family drama. Alaska is on my bucket list and Hannah has convinced me to go sooner rather than later.

Jess7 I thought The Lying Game was just so-so. It wasn‘t for me 6y
Jess7 This was good too, but Sharp Objects was my favorite bc it was very dark and twisty! 6y
MishAnn @Jess7 dark places was my least favorite Gillian Flynn! But Sharp Objects was my FAVORITE 6y
Jess7 A lot of people like this one, and I agree that it was suspenseful, but for me the intense rape/torture scenes were just too graphic for me to want to read this author again. 6y
Jess7 This has a mystery aspect to it and it‘s out @LitsyBuddyRead for March if you want to join us. 6y

Down to letter "X" for #litsyatoz challenge. I really don't want to read Klosterman right now even though that would solve my problem. Any other suggestions for books starting with "X"? #booksuggestions

Sace Because I avoid most A to Z challenges because of the letter X 😂 Would Malcom X count? 6y

It's begging to feel like Fall and I was wondering if anyone has any cozy mysteries to suggest. I know I love the hallmark movies vased on this series so I may start there but I'd love to have some other options.

#booksuggestions

ferskner I think the Cheese Shop Mysteries are really fun, but I like my cozies full of puns and goofiness. :) Diane Mott Davidson would be a good starting author, too. 7y
Lreads I love cozy mysteries! Here are a few series I enjoy: The Black Cat Bookshop series by Ali Brandon, Cupcake Bakery series by Jenn McKinlay, The Indigo Tea Shop series by Laura Childs, Bibliophile Mystery series by Kate Carlisle, A Daisy Dalrymple Mystery series by Carola Dunn. There are so many more! 7y
litmuggle Thank you @ferskner and @ReadsWithTea my library doesnt have most of these so i see a book order in my near future 7y
ferskner You could also look at cozy-mystery.com. Then you'll NEVER run out of cozies! 7y
