Rose and the Dagger
Rose and the Dagger | Rene Ahdieh
The much anticipated sequel to the breathtaking "The Wrath and the Dawn," lauded by "Publishers Weekly" as "a potent page-turner of intrigue and romance." "I am surrounded on all sides by a desert. A guest, in a prison of sand and sun. My family is here. And I do not know whom I can trust."In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad has been torn from the love of her husband Khalid, the Caliph of Khorasan. She once believed him a monster, but his secrets revealed a man tormented by guilt and a powerful curse one that might keep them apart forever. Reunited with her family, who have taken refuge with enemies of Khalid, and Tariq, her childhood sweetheart, she should be happy. But Tariq now commands forces set on destroying Khalid's empire. Shahrzad is almost a prisoner caught between loyalties to people she loves. But she refuses to be a pawn and devises a plan. While her father, Jahandar, continues to play with magical forces he doesn't yet understand, Shahrzad tries to uncover powers that may lie dormant within her. With the help of a tattered old carpet and a tempestuous but sage young man, Shahrzad will attempt to break the curse and reunite with her one true love."

God, the twists and turns in this are just phenomenal. Love Shazi & Khalid, love how they eventually get their hearts' desires, and love this journey for Despina and Yasmine. #reread #yafantasy

While the end of this duology was satisfying and fun, I found it paced a lot slower at first. I also feel like there were more unanswered questions than in the first one - like why didn't Shazi tell everyone the truth about the curse? Still, the characters were just as engaging as in the first one and the ending just what it should have been. I'll definitely try more from Ahdieh.

Kenyazero I just started this book, did you read it? After starting, I noticed that it's the second in a series, which isn't indicated on the book. Do you feel a person should read the first book before reading this one? 4y
VioletMoonBooks @Kenyazero definitely read the first book first 4y
Kenyazero @VioletMoonBooks Thanks, glad I asked! Sometimes if a book 2 doesn't say it's book 2, it can also be a standalone, but not always. 4y

I loved this book. I love the characters, the beautiful writing, The world building, the pace and excitement of the storyline, and I love love love that the author stopped at two books and didn‘t stretch this out unnecessarily. Not without it‘s heartbreaking and what-the-🤬 moments, but with a satisfying ending that I really needed right now.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kenyazero I just started reading this today and noticed that it's the second in a series, which isn't noted on the book. Would you recommend starting with book 1, or is this a case where it doesn't matter? 4y
sprainedbrain @Kenyazero I would definitely recommend reading the first book before this one. It‘s really just one stretched out story! 4y
Kenyazero @sprainedbrain Glad I asked, thanks for the info! 4y

I couldn't put this book down. I was on the edge of my seat to find out how Shazi and Khalid's story would end. I will just say this...I was not disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I would love more of this incredible duo.

I was on the fence initially, but found myself reacting emotionally- so clearly became engaged. This was a satisfying sequel and fun retelling of Arabian Nights.

I‘m so happy I read this book. I‘ve been wanting to know how the story end for a while. When I got to the end of the story my heart was racing. This is one of the most exciting stories I‘ve ever read. It had me hooked from beginning to end. This was such a wonderful book.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This turned out to be such a cute read! I'm normally not about love stories, but this one was really nice and wholesome to me, with the added magic and amazing settings. I'm really glad this got me out of a streak of less than amazing books.

I was able to get one more book read in February. This is definitely my favorite series of the year that I‘ve read!

This is a duology, so only 2 books to read, which I think is my new favorite way to read series! But it also means there are no more books in this world. Apparently there are 3 short stories that I need to find!

I loved Shazi and Khalid‘s journey, their story and their love for each other. 💚💚💚

My latest library book haul. My husband judges me every time I walk out of the library and he‘s sitting in the car. He just doesn‘t understand and says I have plenty of books at home.

I already started reading the tagged book, even though I should be reading Into the Night or The Kingdom of Copper because they are both due 3/12. 🤦‍♀️😬🤦‍♀️😬

I‘m glad I continued with this series, because I truly enjoyed this 2nd book, and the ending to the story. I felt Renée Ahdieh did a fantastic job keeping the feel of the original Arabian Nights while making the story her own.

Wow! I could not put this book down. It‘s been awhile since I enjoyed a YA fantasy love story. This duology didn‘t over do the love and make it cheesy. I loved the magic and setting of it and the characters written.

Such a great end to a magical story.

leevereads @HotMessJess So far, my Minion of darkness has only destroyed the cover of "Now I Rise" by Kiersten White—but that's just because I have managed to snatch away the other ones in time before destruction ? 7y
