The Deep
The Deep | Nick Cutter
Now in mass-market paperback from the national bestselling author of The Troopwhich Stephen King raved scared the hell out of me and I couldnt put it down.old-school horror at its bestan utterly terrifying novel that pits the mysteries of The Abyss against the horrors of The Shining. A strange plague called the Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forgetsmall things at first, like where they left their keysthen the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarilyand there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Mariana Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as ambrosiaa universal healer, from initial reportshas been discovered. It may just be the key to eradicating the Gets. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab, the Trieste, has been built eight miles under the seas surface. But when the station goes incommunicado, a brave few descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depthsand perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine. Fans of unflinching bleakness and all-out horror will love this novel. Each new shock is freshly disturbing (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

4 stars. I was hooked and I enjoyed the nightmarish images it gave. Plot made me feel so much for a character and my heart still breaks for Luke. I even shed a few tears. Good book. Now if only my therapy cat didn‘t get emotionally scarred by my emotional roller coaster with this book. Guess it‘s time to get him a therapy cat.

🎃umm this book was a hot, boring mess. Waste of time! Never really explains anything and throws a bad dog death in there to break your heart for no damn reason. Author needs to do research cause millipedes don‘t bite. Not sure I‘ll read him again. Wasted opportunity.

I enjoyed this read, an underwater, sci-fi, horror. I can't say I was scared, but I definitely felt claustrophobic at times. Had a haunting/ psychological horror element, lots of gore, and situations involving animals...

I like The Troop and Little Heaven better, but this was still fun. It‘s basically a haunted station at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, so isolation, darkness, claustrophobia…plus some genuinely squirmy gross-out moments. Two thumbs up!

Book 168🎧 4⭐️

Having read The Troop, this one didn‘t make me as squeamish but still super freaky!

No one does Nick Cutter justice like Corey Brill - excellent narration 👌🏻

When the world contracts an incurable disease that makes you forget everything, even how to breathe, they think the cure is at the bottom of the ocean.. 8 miles deep.

Ok. This book has gotten out of hand in a great way, I read it all day at work and it‘s so funky. Something about the way that the mc thinks about his wife and what he does for his son just hurts my heart fr, justice for him.

I'm sure this novel is good but I can't read books with animal abuse. Even cute little mice, sorry Nick Cutter. The bug part was gross, but well written. So I plan on reading his other books. #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Some things are just a no-go!! 3y
Reggie Um, you might want to skip him as an author then. Cause it happens in all of Nick Cutter‘s books. In The Troop there are two episodes that I can think of. 3y

Creepy and disturbing though I did enjoy The Troop better. There was some, what I felt, emotional terrorism. The dog dies and it is dragged out for too long. That‘s what brought the rating down for me. It felt manipulative and I instantly didn‘t care if anyone else lived or died.

Bklover I haven‘t read this book but recently got The Troop. I‘m so glad I opened your spoiler. I love a good bloody horror story but don‘t kill the dog. That‘s a dealbreaker. So umm.....is it ok for me to read The Troop????😳🐶❤️ 4y
Samary @Bklover so glad I could be of help! Yes, the Troop has great body horror was really creepy and no unnecessary dog deaths! 4y
Bklover @Samary Thanks! I really appreciate it! 💙 4y
Samary @Bklover I was going over my notes for the troop just to double check, there are some things with lab animals and a cat but it didn‘t really register with me cause they felt like part of the story rather than an emotional manipulation tactic like in The deep. So there are a couple sections you can skip over if you feel the need to. 4y
Bklover Got it! Thank you! 4y

October 2020 TBR...I'm absolutely not going to have time to read 22 books this month, but I'll read at least some of these, and that'll do. Most are some level of creepydarkspooky in honor of the season. ?

I'm most excited for Night Circus, A Darker Shade of Magic, The Secret History, and all three involving Gaiman. Also The Deep, which will be my fourth oceanic horror or fantasy book this year with "Deep" in the title. #theyearofdeep ?

🎧 I feel I should have read this one. The flashbacks made the audio feel disjointed or maybe I‘m having difficulty focusing? The book is great. It reminds me of the way King can scare you by taking you back to your childhood! It‘s a cross between The Abyss, The Shining and The Thing. Gross, scary, creepy. I wish they had talked more about The medical reason LUKE went down to the bottom of the trench. All in all a good horror book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Uh...you just lost me, Mr. Cutter. ?

Extinction Kit? Really? I've been in the vet field for 22 years, and I've never once heard of Euthasol being packaged this way. And, perhaps a little research on dosing of Euthasol would have been a good thing. While 2.5cc is certainly more than enough for a Guinea Pig, it's definitely not enough to "flatline a Great Dane." #factcheck

Inaccurate information like this just completely rips me out of a story.

Well. That was deeply unsettling. Get it.😉Not for the faint hearted, the claustrophobic or the weak of stomach, especially if detailed descriptions of maggots, mutations & multiple eyeballs opening up on faces disturb you! Luke is sent down to a deep water lab in the Mariana Trench after all contact with it goes dark. What‘s waiting is far worse than the disease his brother was trying to cure. #SummersEndReadathon #HSreadathon #MountTBR2019

A dark and disturbing look at what lies in the deep. This book started out a bit slow and derivative. I kept being pulled out of the story...”oh, that reminds me of”...now, back to the story. But the book eventually came into its own and made it a pick. I will never be able to look at guinea pigs the same way ever again (See my post for #QuotsyDec18 | 7: #Magnetic ).
