I love this book. I loved the plot of the book and the characters. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

What a beautifully written, descriptive novel. Part 2 had one of the best depictions of the effects of war I have ever read, except for THE ILIAD. That's saying something! That being said, I would have preferred a bit more action than mostly description. You really had to care about the characters to keep wanting to follow their paths.
Beautiful writing, morally grey plot, war narrative. This book really makes you question supposed “good intentions”, and show so many facets of love, grief, forgiveness, and atonement.
Thanks for the tag @sprainedbrain #manicmonday
📕 Atonement (a few favourites, but this is my top)
✍️ Jane Austen 👌
🎥 Absolute Power (I don‘t watch a lot of movies, I enjoyed this)
🎙 Annie Lennox (you must be guessing my age)
🎶 All Out Of Love - Air Supply (now you know #eightiesgirl )
Tagging anyone who wants to play.
@CBee is bringing back #ManicMonday! I love this game because I can change my picks almost as often as I change my mind. 😜
📖 Atonement (tagged)
✍️ Austen, of course… but she has competition (Atwood, Atkinson, Adiche)
🎥 Adore (2013) only because I wouldn‘t let myself pick Atonement for this category too.
🎤 Avenged Sevenfold
🎵 Adore You by Harry Styles (this is the hardest category!)
Tagging some friends, but everyone play!
#LetterA
I haven‘t read it for awhile, but I did really enjoy it both times I have read the book. Fun fact: Benedict Cumberbatch plays Paul in the movie adaptation. #lettera #alphabetgame

Great idea for a fun game and recap over our best reads. Ian McEwan is one of my favourite authors, Atonement, one of his finest.

What are you reading? 😊
I was tagged in the #whitestackchallenge over on Instagram and thought I‘d post it here as well. Feel free to join in by posting a white/wintry stack of your own. 😊
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

Day 7 - #Tellthetruthday
One of my fav movie ❤
I always thought that this scene is one of the most powerfull in the entire movie ❤
I love Robbie's monologue 🥺
One day I will also read the book 😂
The first part was a bit slow going for me, and I questioned why everyone loves it so much. It picked up in the second part and then, THE ENDING. I am so distraught, I literally want to just lie in bed all day and cry. The prose is masterful and the tension and suspense are deeply felt. This haunting examination of innocence vs. awareness and how one event can ripple through time is one I wish I could experience again for the first time. 5 ⭐️
#BlackandWhite cover for Day 3 of #CuriousCovers.
I haven‘t read this one in many years, but it‘s also one of my favorite movies and the book is also excellent. One of the few book to movie adaptations that are both really good on their own and as a adaptation. I need to reread this sometime.
My #bookspin bingo card for June! I was SO close to getting a bingo last month, so I am determined to get at least one this month! The #bookspin and #doublespin books being in the same row helps. 😜
McEwan‘s writing is very Literary(TM). Atonement actually has an interesting story, and I can see how it would make for a good movie, but it‘s just buried underneath McEwan‘s turgid prose. It was so overwrought at times I burst out laughing; weed isn‘t just weed, it‘s a “cigarette that drives young men of a bohemian inclination across the borders of insanity”. Not to my taste. One of my ATFs. Tragic romance in WWII England. The ending is a gut punch. Terrific book.
My nice thrift store find copy has a satin ribbon bookmark that just became an unintentional cat toy. Half of the cat‘s reasoning is that Cicero loves dangly stringy things and half is that she hates me paying attention to anything but her 😹😹😹
I have a super soft spot for McEwan. On more than one occasion he has pulled me out if a reading slump.
Saw this movie years ago and was curious how much I would remember, it follows the book fairly well.
The characters are interesting and engaging, the story has a few twists and turns and as with most of his work (not you Cement Garden) I feel right into the atmosphere and story.

Melodramatic twaddle with flat characters and a needlessly complicated plot.
Yes. Yes I‘m crying.
I first read this years ago before the movie came out, and I never finished it. I thought the movie was spectacular and heartbreaking beyond anything I had ever seen. But now, having read the novel, I actually find the film 🎞 to be better. The writing was eloquent and moving. But in general I was either enthralled or bored while reading—there is no in between. I don‘t know if I‘d be interested in reading his other works. #AuthorAMonth
Not as much reading as I had hoped this weekend BUT all things considered, it was still helpful! I was able to focus on my reading challenge for #AAM and #PotterADay but still haven‘t started Sense & Sensibility. Eventually I‘ll get there. Thanks so much to the hosts for once again putting this together. In this rough moment of time, it‘s nice to do something together as a community. #24b4Monday
No tears here, just some anger. I think McEwan wrote this story well, because he kept me feeling things for the characters even as the focus zigged and zagged through the years. It did hit me, the statement about becoming inventions, fantasies, after we are gone. We are the star of our story. It‘s easy to forget the story is different when you‘re in a supporting role someone else‘s.

I saw the movie years ago and loved it. Finally reading it for #authoramonth. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
On the one hand, I want to get through the second half of this book so I can watch the film.
On the other hand, I‘m not ready to hate Saiorse Ronan in something, and she‘s such a good actress that I know she‘s going to bring it as Briony. Foolish, infuriating Briony! I know she‘s just a kid, but I‘m so pissed at her right now!

How I felt when I reached the end of Chapter 8 this afternoon, Chrissy Teigen edition.
Though not the main focus of the story, Briony became a trainee nurse in London later in the story.

A quick read for #AuthorOfTheMonth - I‘ve never read this author before (or seen the film adaptation)...but I really enjoyed his style. Thought-provoking without having to spell it all out for the reader. There‘s 3 sides to every story...
It‘s been awhile, but I‘m finally catching up on some #LitsyLove. Between moving, starting a new job, and the general craziness of the world today, my mind has been too scattered to sit and write. But your letters have been a bright spot in all of it and I‘m so appreciative! A special shout-out to @Kaila-ann for this surprise book! Thank you so much 😊 ❤️ Now to get to writing!
