Loved this!
Next up! 🎧
As great as the first book. I‘m in awe of the author‘s imagination. Story follows the parallel lives of a powerful mother and daughter in the broken Earth.

As I finish the second in the trilogy, a little more is revealed in the overall nature of this series. An interesting eco fantasy, this novel has so many layers that I‘ve probably not even grasped them all. Worlds, nations, neighbours, family; for all of these concepts, I feel like there is going to be the difficult choice between good and evil.
Luckily my next audible credit is here so I can dive right in to see the ending!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Probably not a smart move to be doing two fantasy books at the same time… but it‘s time for the next audiobook!
#AlphabetGame #letterO
My book for todays letter is the middle novel of the Broken Earth trilogy by Jemisin. One of the best eco fantasy series I‘ve ever read, it‘s strange, it‘s compelling, it‘s depressing & it‘s hopeful. Give it a read if you haven‘t already!
I have so many questions, and so few answers. Whoa.
And there we go: second line for this month's #BookSpinBingo! Because when I over-achieve I REALLY overachieve, I'm aiming for six lines in all: three verticals, two horizontals, and a diagonal. It's a bit ambitious still but pretty sure I can do it.
In a way, I'm annoyed I took so long to read this... especially with my mum and my wife both giving dark hints about it. It's no surprise that I think it's great -- it's N.K. Jemisin! But it IS kinda dark, and I haven't always been in a great headspace for that. So I don't really regret leaving this for when I can enjoy it!
Just discovered who the narrator is. Interesting...
Loving this series! I am totally flying through them!
So very grateful that I‘m getting along much better with this year‘s (milder) Texas winter storm than last year‘s horrific catastrophe. Thankful for electricity, running water, plenty of food and warm clothes, and maintaining my cozy queen domain: curling up in my reading nook with a fascinating novel and my new micro plush blanket. 🙏🛋☕️📖
Book 2! Didn‘t pack the same punch as the first book but definitely engaging now I have to read the third book to figure out what happens.
So excited to read book two in this series!
1. Yes
2. Colorful or intriguing art.
3 The chaos continues!

Starting a new reading adventure with my buddy Brutus by my side 💕❣️
Loved the 2nd book in The Fifth Season trilogy, maybe even more than the first! The story is so complex that it doesn't allow for casual reading, but it's so worth it! This was my September #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
Book #14 of the year: “The Obelisk Gate” by N.K. Jemisin
This is the second in a trilogy (and I‘m actually reading it in order for once). The first one was intriguing but this one…it‘s been a long time since I‘ve stayed up until nearly 2 to finish a book. I tried to stop a few times but couldn‘t. If you‘re looking for incredible sci-fi/fantasy, here you go!
“Are you human?”
At this, you cannot help but laugh once. “Officially? No.”
“Never mind what others think. What do you feel yourself to be?”
“Human.”
“Then so am I.”
“There is such a thing as too much loss. Too much has been taken from you both—taken and taken and taken, until there‘s nothing left but hope, and you‘ve given that up because it hurts too much. Until you would rather die, or kill, or avoid attachments altogether, than lose one more thing.”
Really enjoyed this one. Picking up the next one soon (I just have to go buy it…)
Onto the next one! I finally finished the 5th season.. yes it took me 9 months of reading on and off but I finally finished it today. (I had half the book left and read it all in one sitting so that shows how invested I was!) Summer reading here I come!
It‘s lunchtime. Let‘s read!
#currentlyreading #bookclub #buddyread
More buddy reads this month. My usual with my mom and sister and a new one with a long time friend.

I can‘t believe it took me so long to pick this one up. I love the depth of the world building and the way the magic system is still fleshing out over the course of the trilogy. Essun is a complicated character and I love watching her journey as she tries to get by the best that she can and learns from her failures.
This was my #bookspin #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
Today‘s I always bring a book adventure is using my stimmy to get new tires since the mechanic estimated I had at most 4K miles before they fell off.
I always have a book with me and today it came in handy as I wait for my post vaccine period.
#BookReport
Managed to finish The Thousand Names and enjoyed it enough that I'll schedule the next one in somewhere in April. I'm also about 25% of the way into Obelisk Gate and enjoying it.
#WeeklyForecast
My goal is to obviously finish Obelisk Gate and then start on House in the Cerulean Sea. With the month changing over again my new challenge reads will come into play so if I manage to finish both of those I'll start on April reads.
This book took me weeks and when I finally committed to it I had nearly forgotten everything from the first book. It‘s not the series though, it‘s me. The writing style is immediately recognizable and special. The fantasy world and the whole season & orogenes idea is sooo amazing. I have to remember to hurry up with part 3 before I forget stuff again.

Starting what will probably be my last book for March. I went ahead and read a summary of the first one to refresh my memory since it‘s been so long since I read it. Simon supports this decision.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 2 was a bit slower but no less impressive that the first book in the series. I‘m positive Jemisin is setting us up for an incredible ending, and I have no idea what it will be or how we will get there.
If you enjoy fantasy, I highly recommend. I can‘t believe it took me this long to read them.
5/5
This book is incredible. It's world building is unlike anything I've ever read, and I love the juxtaposition of magic within a sort of environmental dystopia. I loved all the new details of the world fleshed out and Essun's continued growth. I can't wait to see how the final book manages to wrap everything up.
“Hmm. No. I‘m telling this wrong.”

The Obelisk Gate enthralls readers with its dark and emotional tones. N. K. Jemisin peels back the layers of history with each. As the pieces fall into place, you‘ll find the broken world may have a chance at survival. But it will take those subjected to centuries of discrimination to rise up and fight. Some of the revelations will be jaw dropping. #fantasy

This one picks up traction much faster than the first. Neither book so far has stood well on their own with both endings leaving the reader in the thick of it. This gets more into magical and metaphysical than the previous and I cannot wait to see what is next. World building is among the greatest I‘ve encountered.
#MarvellousMarch #MarvellousMarchReadathon #goals Only about 50 pages left in The Obelisk Gate so setting a goal to finish the trilogy as well as devour Karin Slaughter‘s Pieces of Her (hoping to have that done this weekend but I have a lot to do!) 🤞🏻 plus my 2 audio book choices which each have about 5 hours left, since Spring is springing 🌤Im hoping to take more walks and pop them on
The Fifth Season was a tour de force but the sequel suffers from serious second book syndrome. The complex POVs and timelines become more conventional and the narrative loses out. There is a LOT of exposition that interferes with the pacing and somehow the characters have lost their allure. I was utterly engrossed by book 1, I struggled a little with this one. It is my #bookspin though, so I can cross it off the bingo card @TheAromaofBooks
Absolutely amazing! The depth of characters, the continued world building and the magical elements was all perfectly balanced. And there is something so refreshing following a story were the main character with the power to save everyone is a middle aged woman of color. I wish more books like this were adapted for the screen.
Nothing to grade yet, so we'll read book four for #AuthorAMonth and relax while we can! #CatsOfLitsy #ReadingCompanions
The Broken Earth series might be the most unique I have encountered and book two is even better than the first. The magic system is fascinating, the characters are multi-layered and the writing is just gorgeous!

Had to search out a quick summary of The Fifth Season to reorient myself. Amazing world building in this trilogy.
A phenomenal sequel! I can't wait to finish this series. I was so excited to learn more about a character I was curious about in the first novel. I also really loved learning SO MUCH more about the world.
E P I C S T O R Y !
There are more characters to keep track of than in book 1. I'll be relistening to this #audiobook again before diving into book 3 in Feb. Don't want to miss any details before the world-shaking conclusion.
About the narrator: Based on book 1, I knew Robin Miles was good. But her work in book 2 blew me away! She's one of *thee* great audio-performers. #dw2021
Book 2: And we learn so much about about the central characters (lots of surprises!) as well as other characters who are newly being brought into focus. Lots of behind the scenes storyline. I‘m still curious to learn certain characters‘ motivations! And to see the fanart for this series! 😎 #AuthorAMonth2021

A low pick as I am really struggling with the absolutely relentlessly depressing tone of this book & the 2nd person narration is driving me batty. I'm completely engaged in the story but am not particularly excited about another 400+ pages to find out where the story goes...

#WeeklyForecast - I am trying to start the month with my "assignments" before moving on to my general TBR reads. Starting with The Broken Earth books (actually finished The Fifth Season last night) for #authoramonth then on to the Heyer book which needs to go back to the library. Active Defense is a publisher's review, The Flip Side is for #NewYearWhoDis & the next two are for #foodandlit !! I'm excited about the challenges I'm doing this year ⬇️
Here are some books I'm hoping to pick up next month ✨ What are you hoping to read?
