Today‘s Prompt: BOOK WITH A WEEKDAY
HISTORICAL FICTION - MYSTERY
Have you read this book?
Ms. McMorris knows how to tell a story and keep you interested.
SOLD ON A MONDAY is a beautiful story about caring and compassion.
And was heartwarming as well as heartbreaking.

A so-so rating. Not great, just okay. I was invested in the part of the tale that was a mother selling her children in the Depression Era. I think the story started out well and ended up just okay. It was bogged down by too many twists and sideplots until it was a little bit about a bunch of things rather than a tale I could get lost in. It sort of felt like a YA book to me and the title and cover felt misleading 🤷🏻♀️
63 degrees and sunny ☀️ I‘m finishing up my Book Club selection ahead of this week‘s meeting. Husband is fishing in the backyard-you can see his red shirt in the background. And our dog is (of course) rolling around in the pollen. A perfect day to read outside.
Starting to read this backlist book in preparation for an author event! Oh my! What a sad, profound premise!
1931 “2 CHILDREN FOR SALE” in front of a house.

“Sometimes he wondered what else he‘d sold on that Monday. His principles? His integrity?”
It aggravates me when I end up in the book minority. This just isn‘t for me.
You think by the cover that it would be about the children but it‘s not the focus. The book is about Ellis‘s struggle to make it as a big time newspaper reporter and Lily‘s mom guilt.
It got a third of the way in and decided to DNF.
November Book 25/25 @LItsyLove #bookspinbingo
Kristina McMorris is one of my favorite authors and this book didn‘t disappoint! I have the physical book, but I listened to the audiobook which was well-done. This premise of this story is so sad, but the fact that people tried to help the families in this situation is encouraging. What are you reading? 😊
Inspired by this real photo, the author wrote a story of desperate measures involving the lives of children in 1931. Themes include the role of women in the workplace, integrity in journalism, adoption and single motherhood. Book Club pick. Fast paced.
I haven‘t posted in a very long time. Started a new Book Club read, and decided to visit Litsy to see what everyone thought. Inspired.
I started this book earlier and then put it aside to read some cheerier books. Good move because I came back with better timing and liked the book. Although what happens to the kids here is all kinds of sad, it is juxtaposed against adults who just get that sense they cannot give up on a child.
I went into this believing this was a great depression story about how families had to sell their children. No, this is a story of a reporter who staged a photo after his original was ruined of children who were for sale. Leading to his backlash from the community. Not at all what I gathered from the synapse. Disappointed in this ... may be a DNF as this is not something of my interest. Nicely written however.
TBR Wheel Spin Pick: Sold on a Monday. This has been on my shelf for about a year, if not longer now. I'm glad to finally be getting to it, I honestly would continue to pass this one up for my other historical fiction novels.
I wanted to branch out and read something different than my typical go-to of a thriller and I‘m glad I picked Sold on a Monday!
Ellis Reed is a reporter who happens to stumble upon two children sitting beside a sign that reads “2 Children for Sale” and after snapping a photograph, Reed never could have imagined how badly this situation would spiral out of control.
Set during the Depression in America, this truly captured the people of its time!
I like the idea of this book. BUT I got so bogged down in the middle. It was longer than necessary with silly coincidences and weird tie-ins. It could have been shorter and it would have been better. The last 100 pages were so long and I got bored. I would send this back to a redo.
“If nothing else, he‘d learned that Philadelphians loved reading about their own.”
As a Philadelphian, I can say this is...
100% true.
This book was nothing that I expected but so much more! A story of intermingled lives all because of one heartbreaking photograph! A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for sure!!
Great read! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Interesting storyline. A book inspired by a photo in a 1948 newspaper.
Getting closer to a #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
This is still a pick but somewhat disappointing for me. I met the author about 2 yrs ago, so I‘m using this for #readwithmrbook (has been on tbr forever). I liked the 2 MCs & the alternating perspectives because each one moved the story along. I think I didn‘t love the plot though—maybe because it‘s set in the Great Depression, not my favorite era. This is my #doublespin for #bookspin. @TheAromaofBooks
3.5/5 stars
It kept me reading for sure, but the story seemed a little contrived to me, as did the writing at times. 3.5 ⭐️s.
But wasn't that what everyone wanted deep down? To know their lives actually made a difference? To leave their mark. To be remembered.

This was one of our book club picks. Let's just say, I was not a fan. A lot happened in this book that wasn't feasible. Distances traveled by the speed of light. Basically, this photographer is stranded on the side of the road and sees these two boys sitting by a sign, For Sale. His photo takes off and lands this reporter/photographer in a boat load of trouble. Except, all the trouble resolves itself neatly, too neatly for my pessimistic tastes 😜

2️⃣ I am very fussy about giving 5🌟, it has to check off many of my personal boxes,I think everyone‘s idea of 5🌟is different, that being said this year I have read 5 books and one audio 4 out of the five got solid 4🌟but Sold on Monday by Kristina McMorris gets the closest to 5.
3️⃣ I had soup😂 so let‘s say 5

This cover is so heartbreaking and the story is bananas but sadly inspired by a true story. A photographer for a newspaper takes a photo of 2 kids in a house with a sign in front that says 2 children for sale. The book follows what happens to the photographer, a fellow employee, and the kids. It alternates POV and is done expertly. I continued to #justonemorechapter this book till poof! It was over. I was hooked from the start. Great pacing. 4⭐️
I truly enjoyed this book! I was apprehensive given that my career field is in child welfare. A heartbreaking tale about the hard times too many families faced not so long ago in America. I couldn‘t have imagined the outcome, it was so wonderfully written. I liked that it was written from two different perspectives. Book 2 of 2020
Nice read! Simple story with an engaging story telling.
Set in 1930‘s during very desperate times a reporter who is trying to make a name for himself takes a photo and the story begins. Fast paced and with a few twists, this was a very good read.
I would like to read this book sometime. I am just afraid I will cry my eyes out. Anyone read it?
Finished this just in time for book club tomorrow.
#multitasking Cleaning the pool, listening to tagged book and enjoying some wine. Yes, I like to buy the book I'm listening to 🥰🤷♀️
This book isn't what I thought it would be, but still very enjoyable. #bookclub
Set in the Depression Era, Ellis Reed, a journalist, got a big break in his career when his story with a picture of a sign that read '2 Children for Sale' was published. Sympathy & help came pouring in to help the children in the picture. All was good until the story took an ugly turn.
A quick, yet thought-provoking read! A great cure for a reading slump, especially if you enjoy #historicalfiction!

I had to rush through this one because I got it yesterday to read before book club tonight. Fortunately I hit my deadline, despite a huge and sudden work project.
This was a great book. Although it surprised me to see so much of the reporters‘ lives, I loved following their story and seeing the changes that came into their lives as well as the lives of the children.
#bookishbingo: Borrowed from a friend.
So today we celebrate Mother's Day in Mexico and I found this brand new book at the store for 7 bucks and I was happy enough for the day, then came home and found this flower arrangement and what makes it more special is that my husband picked and arranged the flowers himself 💗💗💗 #loved
I read this book for my Book Club. I found the story just ok. It wasn't bad but it just didn't pull me in like I thought it would. It got mixed reviews from my book club members also.
I picked this up on a whim at the Festival of Books. Just before reading it though I saw some reviews saying it was too slow so I went into with unfairly low expectations. I have to say I did not find it slow at all & really enjoyed it. Part one seemed like it deviated from the expected story but it does come back. There are a lot of twists and turns (arguably too many?) but I thought it was a thought-provoking, quick, entertaining read.
Slowly reading away at my TBR list for #24B4Monday This has been on there for a while I'm glad I'm getting the chance to read it!
