Yesterday‘s BN #bookhaul - two for me and two for the kiddo‘s book advent calendar (which I really need to get wrapped soon - when did December get so close?!). I also got Catan Junior, which the kiddo and I enjoyed last night, and completely forgot to redeem my reward cash. So now I need to go back, right? Oh, and I got Qwirkle at Target. We needed some new games.

Crazeedi I so want to read Mike Rowe's book!! 2w

ravenlee @Crazeedi @Megabooks I really like Mike Rowe (and his dog, and his parents) so I‘ve been looking forward to this. I plan to work on it slowly, to savor the stories and stretch it out! 2w
Crazeedi @ravenlee yes to his dog and parents and his work ethic! 2w
ravenlee @Crazeedi several years ago I ordered the “Freddy and the Biped” campaign t-shirt for my husband, figuring he probably wouldn‘t want it and I‘d get to keep it. Then he loved it, and I was out of luck, because the ordering period was over. Sigh. 2w
xxjenadanxx I loved Fix Her Up! Great choice! 2w

Bailedbailed

I'm bailing at 48% (3:47:26 in audio). It's fine—I've just had enough. It's reminiscent of the old Paul Harvey radio series "The Rest of the Story."

Laughterhp I like his podcast. Just a 10 min story a week! 3w

From the man who gave dignity to people who work the necessary “Dirty Jobs” and introduced us to people who make the world a better place. Mike Rowe started a Podcast and attempted to fill the late Paul Harvey shoes by telling little known stories about people and places we thought we knew. The Podcast is called, “The Way I Heard It” and this book is part a collection of those stories and part bio. It‘s just fun to read. A signed copy.

This is a great #audiobook for group car trips. Based on Mike‘s podcast, the first part of each chapter takes a little known story about a famous person/invention and unravels it until the person is revealed. People such a Hedy Lamar and Bob Ross.

Then Mike tells a related story about his life. I particularly enjoyed the ones about his failed time as a QVC host and about Phil Harris from Deadliest Catch. 4.5⭐️

Readage I like Mike. This looks like a good book 👍 1mo
Megabooks @Readage I hope you enjoy it! 1mo
TieDyeDude I love his podcast. Such a distinct and somehow reassuring voice. Seems like a genuinely nice guy 4w

Made it to Dallas!! Thank goodness! Very tired, but okay.

This is the kind of #audiobook my dad and I can both agree on, and we enjoyed listening on our trip. Based on his podcast, he tells stories about well-known figures from a different angle and has you guessing as to whom, and then relates it to a story from his own life.

Nothing earth shattering, but a very enjoyable read. I think dad will tune into the podcast! (I don‘t do those.) 💜💜

Megabooks @Cinfhen Hey Cindy! Dad and I made it to Dallas! 🤞🏻 this time tomorrow, they‘ll be wheeling me back to the OR. 👍🏻👍🏻 Mom stayed behind and lost power for about 5 hours, but her best friend came and brought her a bright light because we were not prepared.😱(If you didn‘t know, my mom had polio and has other illnesses and has been in a scooter for 20 years with limited mobility.) I think all 3 of us are ready to go! 2mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen I just need to make it though the next 24 hours calmly. Sounds easy enough, right? 😂❤️😘 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I hope everything goes well for you today. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way. ❤ 2mo

Cinfhen Your dad is going to have to go on Litsy and give us all an update 😜 2mo
Megabooks @TheAromaofBooks @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Eggs @Cinfhen @Laura317 Thanks for checking in! ❤️ Dad and I just got back from a practice drive hotel 👉🏻 hospital 👍🏻 and In-N-Out burger, which I hadn‘t had in years. 😋 Cindy, mom is doing okay. Some insulation blew out of the attic into the guest bath, but otherwise the house fared well. I always worry about her, but she has a lot of great friends, so that‘s good! ❤️😘 1mo
Cinfhen Thinking of you 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 1mo

One of the best books I've read this year (and I've read a lot of books this year)! Part history (the fascinating kind, not the boring I need to learn it for a class kind), part memoir, &always fascinating (like laugh out loud kind of funny)! inspired in part by his fascination of and admiration for the legendary Paul Harvey, This book is a collection of short "stories" none of which seem to have anything in particular in (MORE IN COMMENTS)

TheHeartlandBookFairy In common with one another but then our inexplicably and expertly woven together in the most amazing way ? On several occasions Mike instructs us to "Google it, I'll wait", and Google it and Google it. Including his final page instruction to "Google it" and that "it" is a video clip that will leave you laughing, make you want to binge watch every single episode of Dirty Jobs, pull up old QVC clips, check out Evening Magazine, (CONT) 2mo
TheHeartlandBookFairy And wish the book wasn't ending! Maybe there'll be a sequel... 😁 2mo

The Way I Heard It | Mike Rowe

Sometimes an author just sees the world the same way you do. Mike Rowe sees what I see, but with more kindness. His is a heart-opening and mind-expanding perspective with lots of warm humor and humility mixed in. In addition to transcripts of podcasts, Mike makes other connections from history and shares fun personal anecdotes. Expected release date 10/15.
