Emmy-award winning gadfly Mike Rowe presents a ridiculously entertaining, seriously fascinating collection of his favorite episodes from Americas #1 short-form podcast, The Way I Heard It, along with a host of memories, ruminations, illustrations, and insights. Its a delightful collection of mysteries. A mosaic. A memoir. A charming, surprising must-read. Mike Rowes The Way I Heard It collects thirty-five fascinating stories for the curious mind with a short attention span. Five-minute mysteries about people you know, filled with facts that you didnt. Movie stars, presidents, Nazis, and bloody do-gooderstheyre all here, waiting to shake your hand, hoping youll remember them. Delivered with Mikes signature blend of charm, wit, and ingenuity, their stories are part of a larger mosaica memoir crammed with recollections, insights, and intimate, behind-the-scenes moments drawn from Mikes own remarkable life and career.

Full of stories from the original iteration of Rowe‘s podcast, which was modeled after Paul Harvey‘s The Rest of the Story, this had almost nothing new for anyone who had listened. And as a (non-book) side note, once he started doing a longer form of his podcast, I lost interest. The book is folksy and appealing to the right audience. TieDyeDude Thanks for the review. I also stopped listening as the length extended, but I didn't pick up this book because he has such an effortless charm and melodic voice, so I don't really care to read what I can hear him speak. (edited) 4mo

I had so much fun with this one!! Mike Rowe is an exceptional storyteller. I am not sure I would have enjoyed The Way I Heard It nearly as much if I had not chosen audio or if anyone but Mike read it. But I chose wisely and was very entertained!☺️
A collection of 35 stories, mysteries, memories… some funny, a few serious, all very interesting.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If there is anything better than a story well told, I have yet to discover it. And it doesn‘t hurt that Mike Rowe is a stone cold 🦊 with a voice that makes my heart flutter.

I spent the week during which I was listening to this saying to my bf/family/coworkers “Did you guys know that [insert interesting factoid from book]?!” so now people think I‘m a smarty pants. 😁🤓

In other words, I loved this!

A fun, anecdotal book that challenges you to identify obscure historical facts before Rowe gets to the end of the story while alternating stories from Rowe's own life. I learned a lot, both about celebrities (some of which I knew immediately) and Mike Rowe, who I'm convinced should be hosting Jeopardy. Who doesn't love listening to this guy?!?! 😁

My husband and I were Deadliest Catch fans back in the day, and that is where I became familiar with Mike Rowe. He is one hell of a storyteller. We saw him speak in Baltimore (his hometown) a few years back, and he had the audience in tears of laughter the entire time. I have been listening to this while I walk, and loved it. Not every story he tells is upbeat or funny—but they are all damn good stories.

Megabooks I read this book last fall and totally agree. I stopped watching deadliest catch when Phil Harris died, but I‘ve started rewatching it and hope to make it to the new seasons now. There are 16 currently!! I‘m on 6. 4y

I always enjoyed Rowe's show Dirty Jobs, and when he mentioned legendary broadcaster Paul Harvey as an inspiration for this book, I knew I was going to love it. It was wonderful, full of funny, sad, amazing stories, plenty of times where I thought "I didn't know that!". Also, the anecdotes about Rowe's life & career after each story, was icing on the cake. 4 ???? 1/2

I'm not a late night television shopper but I can totally imagine Mike trying to represent products and sell them without a clue as to their function. I adore how he talks about his parent and how he has come into his own. The only title that could kind-of compare to it would be Mobituaries by Mo Rocca, both tell tid bit histories about unique people, events, objects, & architecture in informative, fun, sometimes mysteries ways.

From the man who gave dignity to people who work the necessary “Dirty Jobs” and introduced us to people who make the world a better place. Mike Rowe started a Podcast and attempted to fill the late Paul Harvey shoes by telling little known stories about people and places we thought we knew. The Podcast is called, “The Way I Heard It” and this book is part a collection of those stories and part bio. It‘s just fun to read. A signed copy.

This is a great #audiobook for group car trips. Based on Mike‘s podcast, the first part of each chapter takes a little known story about a famous person/invention and unravels it until the person is revealed. People such a Hedy Lamar and Bob Ross.

Then Mike tells a related story about his life. I particularly enjoyed the ones about his failed time as a QVC host and about Phil Harris from Deadliest Catch. 4.5⭐️

Made it to Dallas!! Thank goodness! Very tired, but okay.

This is the kind of #audiobook my dad and I can both agree on, and we enjoyed listening on our trip. Based on his podcast, he tells stories about well-known figures from a different angle and has you guessing as to whom, and then relates it to a story from his own life.

Nothing earth shattering, but a very enjoyable read. I think dad will tune into the podcast! (I don‘t do those.) 💜💜

One of the best books I've read this year (and I've read a lot of books this year)! Part history (the fascinating kind, not the boring I need to learn it for a class kind), part memoir, &always fascinating (like laugh out loud kind of funny)! inspired in part by his fascination of and admiration for the legendary Paul Harvey, This book is a collection of short "stories" none of which seem to have anything in particular in (MORE IN COMMENTS)

Sometimes an author just sees the world the same way you do. Mike Rowe sees what I see, but with more kindness. His is a heart-opening and mind-expanding perspective with lots of warm humor and humility mixed in. In addition to transcripts of podcasts, Mike makes other connections from history and shares fun personal anecdotes. Expected release date 10/15.
