Check out Kara‘s book review of The Gargoyle on Book Interrupted‘s Manuscript Monday. https://www.bookinterrupted.com/post/manuscript-monday-the-gargoyle
I did it! I finished it! I swear every time I picked it up 10 pages were added to the end. Whew. I didn‘t hate it, some of it was quite good, but it felt like it was 2000 pages and I‘d been reading it for years. @Roary47 @LitStephanie @Littlewolf1 I sent it out in the mail today! #lmpbc
2.5✨I was expecting more than this book offered. The story was a good one about a burn victim that comes to terms with their limitations while making really good friends with a woman has depth. She is a masonry artist who carves gargoyles because they speak to her inside the stone. I would say I liked the medieval parts of this story more than the real time. I didn‘t hate it, but I probably will not read it again. Read for #LMPBC #GroupD
Strange tale of a formerly hedonistic man burned in a horrible accident who tries to heal with the help of a possibly crazy woman. Involves medieval history and Dante, etc. I liked it mostly, but it's a little sexist.
I'm also reading this one! Found at a Little Free Library. It's quite different.
Have any of you heard of this book before now! I hadn‘t until someone recommended it on a Facebook bookclub page. What a story! What an imagination this author has! Don‘t let the way it starts turn you off, as it almost did to me. It describes a horrible car crash in detail, In which the driver is terribly burnt. The places that this book will take you! Just as it was recommended to me, I‘m recommending it to all of you. It‘s very good!
This book was enthralling. I really enjoyed the story of the nun that was told to our narrator. The time spent in the burn unit was also very interesting to me.
I felt the story faltered when the narrator was traveling through the levels of hell, in a journey similar to Dante‘s. It became a bit ponderous and boring.
The ending was what I expected. There were horrific images throughout, but none of the fear of horror novel. A unique book.
I am loving this book so far! It‘s been on my “to read” list for forever!
Completely enjoyed this book and the character development is fabulous. Also excellent narration on the audio! Highly recommended
Ok, not sure if pic is clear but 20 options for #bookspin with @TheAromaofBooks. Half fiction and half non fiction. Fantastic idea for getting through some of the books collecting dust. Having said that, there's a couple in here I really hope don't get picked!
I am so enthralled with this book. I wish I didn‘t have work or eat or sleep. Lol.
This bookwas given to me by a friend and is unlike anything else I've ever read, but she was right, it is an amazing read. This book will make you feel all the emotions but its fantastic.
Book haul! 🥰🤩
Day 11 #adventrecommends @emilyrose_x
I read this book some time ago but recently I lent it to a friend & then I had to re-read. It is an unusual story of a man who is living a destructive lifestyle & after a life-changing accident he meets a woman who tells him stories about how they've met before. The story then jumps back hundreds of years...it is so intriguing that you can't put it down.

Day 10 - The Gargoyle is such a tragic book. A definite favorite of mine.
THANKS I HATE IT
I guess every once in a while I need to remind myself why I don't generally like reading male authors.
This book is simply beautiful, and sounds like it's a beautiful story as well " An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time." Sounds perfect!!
I'm excited to read this, thanks babe @trioxin_sematary for always thinking of me?

I have read this on my Kindle and really enjoyed it. I found this copy in a charity shop and love the black edged pages and had to get it.
Disclaimer - listened to the audio book. This book was an amazing story, wrapped up with so much detail and different timelines. It was a bit hard to get into and figure out those timelines but once I did, I couldn‘t stop listening.
LOVED this audiobook! It‘s such a unique story, with a sarcastic and unhappy man getting into a horrific accident that leaves his severely burned and the mentally unstable woman who shows him what it really means to live and love by recounting their epic and tragic love story that has stretched over the centuries in various iterations. It‘s not my typical read/listen but I found it fascinating and touching. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I really enjoyed this book. The opening few chapters were a bit tough to get through, but it was thoroughly gripping. I read this with a book group who universally struggled with the opening and were almost all determined to dislike the book, but were all won over. I‘d definitely recommend. An unusual and beautiful love story. ❤️
1) Best Cover....I love the original cover (woman with tattoo) but honestly I love each one of these. This was such an amazing book. #gargoyle #books #jingleshelves
This book was UNBELIEVABLE. You could call the style visceral, as that seems to be the 'in vogue' word for detailed injury and violence descriptions? However, the writing is spectacular, it's plain poetry in prose. And the story carries a certain karmic interconnectedness, like a constant battle of two lovers trying to meet but always ending up apart. An unbelievably beautiful story, and I can't do it justice in just a few words.
I wanted to love this one, since it came highly recommended. But it didn't strike a chord with me, and even verged on annoying. It reads like a debut novel that needed more editing. On paper I should have loved it but the writing style just wasn't for me. Full review at www.TheBibliophage.com.

One of the books I'm reading is going to take over soon, where I can't stop reading to switch to the other. But which one will win out??
I spent an inordinate amount of time getting this one right, with the help of the remote shutter on my AppleWatch. These are the socks from my PageHabit box this month. And my new haircut, which I totally love. And of course the books I've been reading today between loads of laundry. Happy #socksunday everyone!
... I'm slightly ashamed of this #bookhaul. BUT THEY WERE ALL 50% OFF! 😳 #usedbookstore #yyc #sale
@WhatDeeReads and @EvieBee started me on this idea. As I draw to the end of my #readingchallenges, I'm going to bingo card my #TBR list. I've included a lot of ARCs and a few others. Not buying books until I get a bingo.

Mom randomly brought this home from the library, and it turned out to be on my to-read list! Go figure. Has anyone read this?
"Accidents ambush the unsuspecting, often violently, just like love." (Opening sentence in "The Gargoyle" by Andrew Davidson (2008). Photo credit: Hanna W. via www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lgbt-pride-hearts
This is one of my all-time favourite books. It's a blend of historical fiction, magic realism and a reminder that love can be found in the most unexpected of places and expressed in innumerable ways.
Captivating from the start. Beautifully drawn. This book disgusted me and made me laugh at the same time; i found myself not at all sympathetic toward the main character (in fact I didn't like him much), while at the same time wishing I could hug him. How does an author do that? I am in awe of his craft. I particularly liked how this story intertwined with a series of seemingly short stories that all connected in the end.
Spent some time today organizing books or as Mr. B calls it, "playing with my books." Listening to my current audiobook at the same time. Developing nonfiction sections - boy I have a lot of memoirs. Alphabetizing by author. Moving them around the house. Most importantly, trying to make it look like I have room for more! #audioorganizing
This book had me hooked from the get go. It is so imaginative. It's a redemptive story through the ages. Now it's not the most conventional love story but just go with it and give it a chance
A stunning book that took my breath away and made my mind explode. I absolutely and wholeheartedly adored it! A story about love and the abyss of human souls. I advise everyone to read it, it's spectacular! ❤

"Accidents ambush the unsuspecting, often violently, just like love."
I have no idea how this book is going to go. It's the first sentence. I am immensely excited.
75 pages in and I find myself captivated by the story of a former drug-addicted pornographer who now lies, badly burned after a car accident in hospital, planning his suicide.
