I read more than I thought I would this week - surprisingly my re-read of American Baby for upcoming bookclub, ended up being my favorite book of the week. The rest were just ok.

Bookzombie I love the badge in the upper right corner. How was Babysitter? 7mo
Cinfhen Thanks @Bookzombie PicCollage FINALLY has a whole bunch of reader‘s stickers! 7mo
Cinfhen I wasn‘t impressed with Babysitter - it was violent and disturbing at times but it felt gratuitous and the serial killer was an unnecessary distraction. I would say #BorrowNotBuy @Bookzombie (edited) 7mo

Another week another book report! Finished 4 books this week although one, The Whalebone Theatre was over 18 hours of audio ( totally worth it!!) I liked North Woods a lot and the Boyne was engaging but definitely not on the same level as past Boyne books. Sandy Hook was a bit of a disappointment because the book was really about the conspiracy theorists who flat out denied the SH murders & basically terrorized the families for years.

TrishB Good week 👍🏻 7mo

Other than The Laughter, which was super compelling ( great rec @sarahbarnes ) nothing else really stood out 🤷🏼‍♀️I did enjoy Looker, Don‘t Forget and Marie Antoinette but I don‘t think they‘re gonna stay with me. Once again I‘m in this weird kind of funk… where it‘s difficult to find books that captivate me. Hoping for some better reads this coming week.

sarahbarnes I‘m glad you liked it! It‘s one of the better books I‘ve read so far this year! 7mo
Bookzombie I‘m sorry your funk hasn‘t passed. I‘m still struggling too. 7mo
TrishB Hope this week improves. 7mo
Cinfhen Thanks so much @TrishB I hope you at least enjoyed your week off @Bookzombie and I know the reading will return for both of us!!! 7mo

I had such a GREAT READING WEEK! Not only did I finish 10 books but I REALLY ENJOYED 5 of them and Shark Heart was a Top 10 of the year for me! The top row were all 4 star reads, I liked Day of Fire. Telegraph was good just too YA for my reading preferences and Old God‘s was too depressing and disjointed. I HATED the new Kim but was actually ok with Memory of Animals. I think it‘ll make for good discussion. #CampLitsy23

KT1432 So many of these I‘m hoping to read soon! What a great week! Eek about Happiness Falls though I have it coming from BOTM next week! 😩 Sounds like maybe I should have gone with Lisa Jewell lol. 8mo
squirrelbrain I really wasn‘t sure about My Husband, but I can see how it might have worked better on audio. We‘re coming up with some great questions on Animals, hopefully! 🤞 8mo
Librariana What a phenomenal reading week, Cindy! 🤩 My book-buying ban... has not been very successful as of late (it did start out strong and held... until June 😁) This is all to say, Shark Heart is on my wish list, and I might be picking it up today. Love your enthusiasm for it! 8mo

Cinfhen Amazing you lasted until June @Librariana but I do think Shark Heart is worth a splurge xx BTW: I think it would look gorgeous on your new shelves!!! 8mo
Cinfhen I LOVED My Husband as an audio! I literally could not stop listening to it…I was so caught up in her ramblings @squirrelbrain 8mo
Cinfhen I seem to be in the minority about Happiness Falls @lele1432 so hopefully you love it ❣️The Jewell was really fun as an audio…if you can find a library copy to borrow I suggest going for the audiobook (edited) 8mo
KT1432 I had actually thought about doing that @Cinfhen! Good idea! 8mo

I REALLY LOVED both Victory City and Tom Lake ! Mama Love, Kala and Come Fly were #GoodNotGreat
Happiness Falls is an ARC which I was really looking forward to but it‘s not meeting my expectations. I‘ve been wavering between a total pan and so-so. Still have another 100 pages to go, maybe it‘ll get better 🤪

I didn‘t get too much reading in this week but still managed to finish 4 books. My #TitlesAndTunes were both a bit disappointing and I‘m still pondering my #DoubleSpin #ARC — Alice Hoffman can be a hit or miss for me and sadly this one fell more towards the miss column. Lost & Found is for IRL book club on Monday night. I think we‘ll have a good discussion.

TrishB Same with Hoffman, those I‘ve liked have been amazing and others have just been a bit meh. I won‘t run to get this one now. 10mo
Cinfhen It‘s a blending of fairy tale, time travel and contemporary fiction- the premise was a little odd @TrishB the protagonist is able to time travel back in the past and is able to have a romantic relationship with Nathaniel Hawthorne 10mo

I think I forecasted ZERO of these books #LifeOfAMoodReader but I enjoyed all of them- my two favorites were Shadow of the Mountain and We All Want ImpossibleThings. The Coben was SUPER ENTERTAINING & Rum Diary was surprisingly good. The Whelan became a bit cliche and Woman Eating was oddly delicious but the ending was a bit of a disappointment. I really think Katherine Heiny is brilliant at creating quirky characters💜

I had a BUSY reading week and actually a busy week in general, hence why I‘m behind on a few reviews. Really enjoyed the new book by Rachel Beanland coming out in April and Babel was a total surprise pick for me! Vanderbilt was very interesting and Fatty Fatty was good but I have some thoughts…same with the Gadsby. I just COULD NOT wrap my head around My Volcano and it‘s the year for #AllHailTheBail so I quit by page 34. #NoRegrets

The first half of the week was all about a bunch of excellent books. All 5 of the finished ones were terrific.

Then I bailed on two in a row - yikes!

The Chosen and the Beautiful is a retelling of Gatsby from Jordan Baker‘s point of view. She seems bored with her life of riches and extravagant parties, and about halfway through I grew bored of watching her be bored.

Fox & I seemed strangely detached- I may come back.

Cinfhen Too bad about the Gatsby retelling… I‘ve seen good reviews but I totally get why you #hibernated for now!!! 3y
Hooked_on_books I bailed on TCATB too. It felt so constrained by the source material that I found it really stiff. I wish she‘d used Gatsby as inspiration rather than literally trying to rewrite it. 3y

My favorite was A Psalm for the Wild-Built. I also really liked Mirror Season, Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters, and Night.

Both The Book Charmer and Wizard of Oz were good, but not favorites.

I‘m currently reading 3 books not on my Bingo card, so I‘ll be filling in Free spaces next week 😉📚.

Cinfhen Wow!!! What a week ♥️ 3y

The only one of these four I picked was The Magician‘s Assistant. The others were so-sos. Even so it‘s been a pretty good reading week.

I‘m very excited to take a trip to the recently opened Nowhere Bookshop with @Eyelit today! I‘ve been waiting over a year for this adventure! (Photos to come this evening.)

AmyG Have fun! 3y
Cinfhen Bookstore visit sounds GREAT!! Have fun 3y

I read 8 books in May, double my usual amount; mainly because most of them were very short. The Midnight Library is my new favorite book so far this year. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I read my #LMPBC selection (mailed)
Did not read #bookspin selection
I‘m about 2/3 done on my #doublespin book
I did NOT get to read my #cbbc book but did mail it out to @Pogue last week
The Midnight Library was my #IRLBOOKCLUB read. I was the only one to ❤️ it. 🥲
#bookreport

Sresendez12 Just finished The Midnight Library this weekend and loved it! 3y
peanutnine The Midnight Library seems to have a lot of mixed reviews. I loved it. My IRL book club discusses it tomorrow and I'm curious to see how everyone liked it🤞🏻 3y
EliLiszt Are you open to receiving a free paperback in exchange for a review on Amazon, B&N and Goodreads? I published my novel in July 2020 and looking for some honest & constructive reviews by avid readers like yourself. Please email me if this is something that you‘re interested in at eliliszt39@gmail.com 3y
coffees I didn't think I'd like midnight library but I picked it up just to see and loved it 👍👍 3y

squirrelbrain I‘ve been wondering about you today - hope you‘re doing OK. 😘 3y
Cinfhen Thanks so much @vivastory @squirrelbrain and @MicheleinPhilly I‘m actually shocked I was able to read all week. It‘s definitely better to read then allow my imagination/ anxiety get out of control... 3y
Billypar I'm glad you're still able read and cope with the anxiety after such a terrible week. I'm hoping for peace soon- will keep you in my prayers until then! 3y
Megabooks So glad you are able to read to distract yourself. Sending hugs! 3y

What a wonderful week for reading!
Lots of GREAT books 😊❤️
My only dud ( and it wasn‘t terrible) was One, Two, Three and I wasn‘t overly impressed with the Woodson ( but that‘s because I‘m not much of a MG reader)
The others were all 4 & 5 star reads. I can‘t even pick a top 3 from the 6. Each book had its own special qualities.

squirrelbrain A fab week! ❤️ 3y
Cinfhen It really was @squirrelbrain I feel like a few of these books have potential to make my BEST list of 2021 3y
TrishB Great week ♥️ 3y

Megabooks Fantastic week! 3y
Cinfhen Thanks @Megabooks @TrishB I‘m starting the second week of May with a clean slate!! Now to decide what to read/ listen to next 😁 3y
BarbaraBB Fantastic week. The amount and the titles! 3y
Megabooks I‘m sure you have a lot of great choices! I just started Persist by Elizabeth Warren after finishing up my third McWhorter. The McW is great and available on hoopla (tagged). (And after an evening of improving a bit...I‘m back under the blankets. 👎🏻) 3y
TrishB @Megabooks my son is dropping big hints about the Warren book! 3y
Megabooks @TrishB I was just reading it while doing laundry (audiobook). I‘m a big Warren fan. I think she has a lot of commonsense ideas that are already normalized in other countries, and I hope she‘s able to get some through Congress while Biden is in office. The first section is about universal childcare, which seems like such an obvious thing to invest in, but it meets terrible resistance here. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y

Zadie Smith - liked a lot more than her fiction.
John Boyne - not my fave of his, clever though.
Simon Kernick- good start to a new series for me.
Angela Marsons- still great series.
Dave Ball- too many synths and too much name dropping.
V.E. Schwab - started last night and really enjoying so far.

BarbaraBB Productive week! 3y
squirrelbrain A great book week! I tried Addie LaRue on audio and didn‘t get on with it...maybe I should try it in print. 3y
AmyG @squirrelbrain There is alot of jumping back and forth in time. Perhaps an actual book would work better. It‘s a really good story. 3y

Megabooks That‘s high praise for the Boyne. He has so many great books! 3y
Cinfhen Great week, Trish🙌🏻It looks like your reading MoJo is returning ❤️❤️❤️I enjoyed Addie @squirrelbrain and I can see why the audio was confusing if you weren‘t really following/listening intently 3y
Cathythoughts Great week 👏🏻👏🏻 👏🏻 3y
TrishB @BarbaraBB it definitely was 😁 3y
TrishB @squirrelbrain I don‘t do audio as you know so I‘m not sure how it would transfer. I found it an entertaining quick read. 3y
TrishB @AmyG I thought so too 👍🏻 3y
TrishB @Megabooks 👍🏻 3y
TrishB @Cinfhen I‘ve been back in love with reading the last couple of weeks! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 3y
Cinfhen Yay 😁 that makes me HAPPY 💕 3y
TrishB @Cathythoughts thank you 😘 3y
squirrelbrain I‘ll wait until Addie LaRue is cheap on Kindle to try it again I think @AmyG @Cinfhen @TrishB 3y
AmyG @squirrelbrain I can send it to you when I am done if you‘d like. 3y
squirrelbrain Aw thank you @AmyG but I‘m in the UK. It would cost almost as much to post as it would for me to buy a copy! You‘re very sweet to offer though. 😘 3y

- Loved the Liar‘s dictionary and was not a fan of the NK Jemisin, though that‘s not to say the writing wasn‘t good, just not for me...
- Enjoying my two current reads very much so far.....
- Hoping to start the #buddyread later this week 🤞

Cinfhen I couldn‘t get into my NK Jemisin either.... 3y

Another great reading week although I still haven‘t picked up the one ARC I‘ve been “meaning” to, instead I listened to 2 #AudioArc(s) this week. I REALLY enjoyed The Wife Upstairs and thought the true crime #ARC was ok, nothing special. I LOVED listening to Amy Poehler and enjoyed Lot Six. In print I found both The Editor & Arctic Fury to be satisfying reads however The Lager Queen was a definite disappointment.

Hestapleton So glad you enjoyed Arctic Fury! It looked FASCINATING. 3y
Reviewsbylola So funny, I LOVED the true crime! 3y
Megabooks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3y
TheRiehlDeal There are audiobook ARC's?! Didn't know they were a thing. On NetGalley? 3y

I had another great reading/ listening week 🤓🎧💕 December is a tricky month, as I won‘t start books that I‘m excited about because I‘m saving them for 2021 challenges. So I‘m excited that I found a few books not really on my #ReadingRadar that were surprise hits💗

TrishB Good week and cool graphic 👍🏻 3y
squirrelbrain It‘s always tricky trying to figure out what we‘re ‘allowed‘ to read in December isn‘t it?! 🤣 3y

#bookreport & #weeklyforecast together again, as it‘s not worth separating this poor showing! 😂🤦‍♀️

I‘ve basically lived at work this week, so reading time has been scarce.
Red, White and blue was cute, steamy and likable. I‘m not much of a romance reader, but the banter was fun, and it was a nice distraction😊👍

Enjoying my NetGalley which I hope to finish tomorrow on my day off....

Next up will be my #bookspin ...... whatever that may be!

Cinfhen Agreed Red, White and Royal Blue was steamy and fun!! I loved it 3y

Loved the Harpy, enjoyed my re-read and Zoom bookclub for Twenty-One Truths about Love, and the audiobook of Lab Girl was good but not great.

Currently reading Such a Fun Age for another bookclub, and Addie Larue is a library hold that just became available 😊👍📚

Cinfhen I thought you might like The Harpy....it was very unsettling 3y

My reading has been in the shitster, but that‘s ok....I‘m in family mode and it‘s all good ❤️🥰I did finish 2 books this week, both were good. I‘ve put Shadow King in hibernation and had to let The Eighth Life go. I don‘t expect to get much reading done next week but we‘ll see...

Bklover Hello my dear!!! Enjoy your family time!!!😘 4y
Lynnsoprano I totally get it. My brain is going in a million different directions. Just happy to be making connections here again. 4y

#bookreport & #weeklyforecast

Not feeling it this week, so ended up mostly browsing cookbooks which always makes me feel better! Ina‘s new book is fab and The Shore was a surprise gift!

Finished my ARC of The Orchard, which sadly was disappointing...I think the comparisons to The Secret History set my expectations way too high!

Started Eileen which so far has a creepy noir-ish vibe....and next up are 2 #NetGalley titles that release soon 📚💕

Cinfhen I have The Harpy, too!! But I can‘t get into it ...and The Orchard was a bit of a dud 🙁 4y
KarenUK @cinfhen The Orchard has lots of rave reviews on goodreads... not sure what I was missing!?🤷‍♀️ 4y

#BookReport Part one
Here‘s the pile I attempted over the Holiday weekend
Made it to page 11 on Crimson 🤪not a good sign, but my concentration was shit all weekend
I‘m making progress with The Parisian...I like it, it‘s just a very dense read...LOTS OF WORDS!!!!! LITTLE action
I finished the other 3 but I honestly, don‘t know what I read...I didn‘t enjoy any of them ( but again, that‘s probably my own doing) My headspace isn‘t quite there🙄

Kalalalatja I can relate to the lack of reading focus. It sucks 👎 4y
Cathythoughts I hear you with the headspace ... my concentration is off all week ... So annoying! I hope you get back to your reading style soon & I hope we all do @Kalalalatja 4y
janeycanuck Crimson took me a while to get into but when it did... man, I was sucked in. Good luck! 4y

Reviewsbylola Put Crimson aside until you‘re ready for it. ❤️ 4y
Cinfhen Thanks @Reviewsbylola xxx loving the new photo and hair color ❣️❣️❣️❣️ 4y
Reviewsbylola Thank you 🥰 I added a lot of grey/silver to my hair but it looks blonde. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 4y
Cinfhen I really like it @Reviewsbylola what do the girls think??? And I mean ALL OF THEM....Sisters, daughters & mom!!! 4y

Sea Wife, Unseen World and Death of Vivek Oji were all really good.

BookBridget What is Sea Wife about? Mystery? 4y
Cinfhen It‘s about a married couple with 2 young kids, who decide to sail around the world for a year but things go off course very quickly. It‘s an interesting look at marriage, obligations and expectations. I really liked it @BookBridget 4y
