I think I liked Every Last Fear a bit better, but this was a solid thriller 👏🏻👏🏻 I didn‘t see the twist at the end at all 😅😳🫢

Librariana I admire your bravery in reading thrillers. I try... the best I can do is Stephen King. I'm a weenie 😁 1mo
CBee @Librariana oh dear, I can‘t read Stephen King 😂😂 I‘ve read The Stand and just recently read Firestarter, but that‘ll be about it for me I think 😅 If you can read King, you‘re not a weenie at all 😊 (edited) 1mo
BarbaraBB I enjoyed these two too and have his newest on my shelves! No King for me either 😎 1mo
See All 8 Comments
CBee @BarbaraBB oh right, I need to stack his newest! It‘s funny, I can handle murder in my books, but the body horror and gore in King is just 😳😩🤢😂 (edited) 1mo
vivastory I completely agree. Def liked ELF more, but did like this one. Have you ever read Samantha Downing? 1mo
CBee @vivastory I have! I loved Lovely Wife but haven‘t read any of her other books yet. Any of hers you‘d recommend? 1mo
vivastory For Your Own Good. It's so delightfully twisted 😅 I'm laughing just thinking about it. Highly recommend for a dark, twisted thriller. So so good 1mo
CBee @vivastory ooooo that sounds right up my alley - not sure what that says about me 🤔😂 1mo

Great detective thriller. I think this author pulls off the twists and turns really well.
Thanks Caroline 😘

Balibee146 I read and enjoyed this last week.... Had a sudden brainwave at 50% and correctly guessed the killer but still some surprises at the end and a good entertaining thriller. 5mo
BarbaraBB I enjoyed this one too. Have been eyeing his third book 5mo

TrishB @BarbaraBB you should NEVER buy books just before your birthday, or else 😁 5mo
TrishB @batsy they are definitely the better side of thrillers! 5mo
Balibee146 @trishb yeah I have them and the others by Steve Cavannagh on my radar now, so good to know they are worth it.... Yeah I really needed to ADD to my TBR 🤦‍♀️😜😘 5mo

It was just okay.
I like the twists. But the story itself dragged on a little too long. It was on my TBR for so long, so I'm glad I read it, but knowing what I know now, I would have been just as happy to skip it.

I thought this book was extremely well written. The story had me interested from the very first page and I didn‘t want to put it down. Even though I figured out who the killer was early on, I didn‘t catch on to a lot of the other twists in the book! I thought that the pace was quick and kept me on the edge of my seat while reading it and I definitely would read more by this author!

(Just one last pic of my Christmas tree 😉)

Two massacres, fifteen years apart. Two survivors, a suspect on the run, police and FBI seeking the truth. All these ingredients make for a very, good fast-pacing read. So many twists. I can‘t wait for the next Finlay. Great gift @TrishB, thanks ❤️!

Fast moving thriller full of energy that read almost like a movie to me. I enjoyed it a lot. This might be my first Finlay; if I've read others I don't remember.

Some parts were predictable and others surprised me a little. Thriller/crime fans will enjoy this one though.

I enjoyed this. The 3 POV characters all interested me & both crimes were horrifying. A 3rd crime- which came as little surprise- and a 4th crime- that did- tie up loose ends while we get closer to discovering if & how the 2 mass murders are related. The culprit won't shock anyone who reads a lot of thrillers but I, for one, don't need every book I read to be a jaw dropper so that didn't bother me. I'm more interested in the how & the why. ⬇️

bookandbedandtea ⬆️ After reading this I discovered that Sarah Keller, the FBI agent, was in his first book so I plan to go back and read it. 2y

I picked this one up for #NoShameReadathon - Slasher horror pick

I‘m not a horror person, I‘m such a wimp and I‘m definitely not a slasher film person! So I was definitely hesitant. Definitely a bit gruesome at the end.

However, I really liked this book and couldn‘t put it down. It was also a super quick read.

3.5 stars for me.
2 brutal murders set 15 years apart. One takes place in a Blockbuster video (remember those?)the other in an ice cream shop.
My issue was that there were a ton of characters that all had the same "voice" which made it difficult to discern who was who. Although, this could just be a "me" issue. Lots of red herrings in addition to what felt like incomplete storylines that left more questions than answers.
Yet, it's a page-turner!

This is a light pick for me. It was entertaining enough and moved along at a fast pace, but I found myself wishing more time was spent in 1999.

FelinesAndFelonies I didn't love this one. I liked his first book better. The 8 month pregnant FBI agent was an issue for me. I'm in LE and there is no way a supervisor would ever authorize that type of work for someone who had a high-risk pregnancy especially that far along. 2y
MicheleinPhilly @FelinesAndFelonies Yeah, I side eyed that whole part of the story. Aside from the risks involved, she wouldn‘t have anywhere near the physical dexterity he described her as having. I just kept thinking, “I bet he‘s never met a pregnant lady in real life.” 2y

The past comes back to haunt sole-survivor of the 1999 Blockbuster massacre, Ella, now a self destructive therapist, after a disturbingly similar murder take place at a local Dairy Creamery &she is called to assist the only survivor there.

I was glad to see more of Agent Keller (and her husband) who appeared in Every Last Fear.

A page-turner for sure. All his characters are complex &interesting

One ahhhh concern / spoiler in the comments

5feet.of.fury Uhhhhh This is ALOT like Riley Sager‘s Final Girls. 2y

Interestingly, this book has the same FBI agent Sarah Keller as Finlay‘s Every Last Fear, but the story told in this book predates the story told in Every Last Fear. I figured out the ultimate culprit fairly early on, but that didn‘t impede my enjoyment of the book at all given the different perspectives and multilayered story line. If you enjoyed Finlay‘s first book, you‘ll probably dig this on as well.

EvieBee Sounds great and lovely photo! 2y

This is a slow building thriller/ suspense story that begins with a hook as the preface begins in 1999 with the brutal slayings of 4 young people working the night shift at blockbuster. The sole survivor, Ella, grows up doing her best to live with her trauma, while the case goes cold and the only suspect vanishes. Now with a fresh set of killings, same town, same MO, the question becomes is a copycat terrorizing Linden or is the killer back again?

Who killed the teenage girls at Blockbuster years ago? Who killed the teenage girls at Dairy Creamery in the present? Not a particularly interesting group of detectives here, but I read to the end to see who did it.

This book was such a quick read! I literally read it in a day! I‘m definitely a fan of Alex Finlay‘s writing. When an eerily similar crime occurs several years apart, the survivor of the first crime must face her trauma and relive the experience to see if she can help in the investigation. I really enjoyed the FBI Agent in this story. The story comes to a satisfying conclusion. Definitely recommend!!
