This is one of my favorites. Memorable characters, heartbreaking story, offbeat overall. It's one I want to re-read.
“Because the story of your life never starts at the beginning.”
This is the story of friendship between 104 year old Ona Vitkus and an 11 year old boy, but it's a joy to see it unfold, and watch how the story develops because of this relationship.
The characters in this book were good. Ona, feisty and 104 years young, Quinn the absentee father, Belle the broken and grieving mother, and the unnamed, World-record-obsessed boy.
#Litsypartyofone #mrbook1inamillion #24B4Monday @MrBook This is my book stack for this weekend‘s readathon. I love readathons because they help get me on track with my reading - especially on books that I‘m behind in. I can‘t post any snacks unfortunately - I‘m on a diet so I‘m trying to eat healthy 🙄 I‘m seeing my dietician tomorrow and I‘m afraid even posting what I want to eat will feel like cheating 😂
Here's my TBR stack for this weekend's #24b4monday readathon! Looking forward to celebrating one of everybody's favourite with some reads that I'm super excited about. Also got some audiobooks lined up as well #MrBook1inaMillion
Woohoo! @MrBook has reached over 1m in Litfluence!! And in celebration, there‘s a #readathon this weekend! Had a bit of a reading slump this month, but a re-read of the tagged book for a bookclub ended up being the perfect #slumpbuster !
I read a couple of fantastic cookbooks, and also really liked The Girl on the Page, a gift from a lovely Litten...
Favorite new-to-me fiction read was the 5⭐️ ‘The Nickel Boys‘ by Colson Whitehead.... I‘m looking forward to discussing it at the B&N bookclub I‘ll be hosting on August 13th....📚💕
My book haul from 2nd and Charles on Sunday. I technically only went there to get a gift card for a friend, but y‘all know how that goes. I can‘t pass up a buy 5 used books, get 5 free deal. The two in the middle are books I‘ve been on the library waitlist for a while so those are some fun finds and the rest are just whatever struck my fancy - fantasy, animals, classics, etc.
Reread for a bookclub- just as good as I remembered.
I again fell in love with this lovely cast of characters. Ona, feisty and 104 years young, Quinn the absentee father, Belle the broken and grieving mother, and the unnamed, World-record-obsessed boy.
This wonderful story of grief and friendship, just spoke to me so completely. And I just love Quinn as a character. His complex feelings of grief, guilt, honor and duty were so moving. Recommended👍
Overall a very heartwarming and touching story. It dragged a little in the middle and frankly, Quinn did almost nothing to impress me as a character. He was mostly self absorbed and kind of cold. Ona, the boy and the way that the author chose to end the book saved it all. The ending was heartbreaking and beautiful. I would still highly recommend this book and the audio was amazing. #audiobook #tearjerker #hoopla
‘Upstairs, gaining strength by the second, lay Quinn‘s inheritance, left to the father from the son: an old woman suddenly missing home.‘
This is the story of a boy, a son and his relationship with his father and his friendship with an elderly lady of 104.
This book made my heart sing! The ending was just perfect! The characters felt so real and they made me cry, smile and cry some more.
#LitsyAtoZ letter O
Thank you so much for the bookmark, book, and especially the kind words in your letter 💗 That means so much to me... You and others make Litsy such a wonderful place! Here‘s one for all my audiobook peeps. Made a list of some of my favorites over on @bookriot today.

I may have just listened to my 2019 favorite! This is a story that has so many moving elements. Have tissues on hand. Unlikely friendships, missed opportunities, mistakes, relationships, forgiveness, acceptance, humor, and love are all in this charming story. I definitely recommend the audiobook. Such a unique mix of characters...I will be thinking of them for a long time. 5/5⭐️s #Keeper ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Gentle, quiet, and heartwarming, this book creeps up on you. A story of friendship, missed opportunities, and second chances...all set in motion after the death of a boy. And the ending..it‘s beautiful! 👍👍👍👍
✅ #Booked2019 Winter #relatedtoapodcast (from MMD podcast).
It has been a whirlwind of activity for the past three days in celebration of the Lunar New Year 🧧... lots of socialising (family gatherings, friends visiting), too much of food, and not enough of sleep. Today I plan on resting at home to finish (hopefully) the tagged book and maybe a little nap later in the afternoon.
Here‘s a pic of my sister‘s munchkin, Sukey. 🐶❤️
Initially I found the book charming but it quickly wore off as the book focused more on the father and characters other than the old woman and young boy. Ultimately the charm left with the boy and it made a book that was already longer than it should have been feel that much longer.
(Read in December. Already on my TBR.)
With this last read I have finally completed my end season of reads for #booked2018! Just in time 🙌🏼😉
#underdoghero - The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
#featuresaholiday - Hocus Pocus & Sequel ⭐️⭐️⭐️
#MCover70 - The One-In-A Million Boy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
#newin2018 - Pride ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
MCwithinvisibleillness- Turtles ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
#spooky - Blood and Salt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I devoured this in two days. The only reason this is impressive is because I have toddlers and a job 😂 But I was completely invested in each character. I loved their stories. I loved their faults. I cried for them. I cried with them. This one is going to hang around with me for a while.
Nothing like finishing a book first thing in the morning! I loved this one!! So much heart wrapped up in a story with unfortunate circumstances, missed opportunities, and things said badly. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
#booked2018 Completed this quarter just in time! I enjoyed all six, with the tagged book being my favorite..... @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft Thank you to all the hosts, I‘m loving this challenge 😘💕👍
How many years does it take us before we actually grow up? What if you don‘t get a second chance? If you were to leave tomorrow, what would you regret? Do you allow for the unexpected in your life? This book answers all of these questions in the most heart crushing way....
I loved this book. So hard!
Home from work this afternoon making lasagna for 30, and I finished on audio. I have a massive tbr so often read books years after I get them—I should have read this years ago.
This book is so much more than I can even describe. It pulls at your heart without being sappy, it‘s beautifully written, and the characters feel so real and gloriously human.
A contender for best book I‘ve read this year.
