Pickpick

A long, quite involved audiobook about the state of immigration in the United States by way of Mexico and elsewhere in Central America. Blitzer goes back to cover a history of immigration, including policies and the political climate around the topic, and continues into the present day. He profiles individuals to humanize the topics of deportation, detention, and even parent-child separation at the border. ..to be continued in 2025 😱

ncsufoxes I have the physical copy of this book. I‘ve been slowly reading it. It‘s heartbreaking, it‘s even worse to know that US policy has created so many of these scenarios 3w

Bookwormjillk Up early to drive my son to work them coming home to drink all the tea and read all the books. Shopping with my daughter later. 1mo
Sace I confess I started my week in an irritable mood despite having Monday off. The skies were gray and I had been people-ing too much. I‘m feeling better now. My only plans today are grocery shopping, haircut, lunch and reading. 1mo
Read4life We‘re still in the USVI taking care of my father in law. There was no change with him this week. We were able to get to the beach 4 days this week. This weekend we‘re going to spend time with my mother in law and her husband. In spite of the stressful reason we‘re here, we are getting some wonderful time with family. 1mo

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk a perfect day. What are you reading? 1mo
AllDebooks @Sace sounds tough but at least you can have a pamper day indulging in what you want to do. Enjoy x 1mo
AllDebooks @Read4life I'm so sorry. Sending love x 1mo
AllDebooks I'm hibernating today, with a stack of books. It's so cold today ❄️ 1mo
Bookwormjillk @AllDebooks a very long Udolpho chapter then back to 1mo
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk I'm working up to that. 😅 Atm, I'm completely absorbed in 1mo
DogMomIrene It‘s been raining and will keep raining here for next several days, so I‘m prepped for some doggy snuggles with my ebook. And audiobook time when we go downstairs to the basement to play some indoor fetch. 1mo
Daisey I‘ve got another weekend at home full of fall projects and school work. I also hope to fit in some good reading time. 1mo
AllDebooks @DogMomIrene 🐾 Sounds lovely 🐾 1mo
AllDebooks @Daisey wishing you a creative, productive weekend. 1mo
TheBookHippie @DogMomIrene rain here too every single day. Although it‘s usually snow! 1mo
TheBookHippie @Read4life sending love. 1mo

AllDebooks @TheBookHippie yikes, that's bad. Hope you catch up on some 💤 soon x 1mo
Faranae A week of insomnia, so I'm way behind on everything, but at least my stream reading has been going great (although an entire 30 minutes of my silly Don Quixote voice has left my vocal cords shredded oops). Going to try to get the two last Amelia Edwards stories I need to finish this weekend for the epub I'm making. Also skimming the diary of Gideon Mantell. 1mo
DogMomIrene @TheBookHippie I‘d love snow, but we just got some flurries that didn‘t stick😮‍💨 Hope you get some sleep! 1mo
AllDebooks @Faranae hope you get back to a more normal sleep pattern soon. Enjoy your reading. X 1mo

Time for a much needed #SaturdayChatterday

Well, what a week it's been for everyone. How are you feeling? This is a safe space to chat about whatever is on your mind.
All welcome to join in.

@Catsandbooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @Librarybelle @IndoorDame @Cuilin @dabbe @BarkingMadRead @Eggs

AllDebooks I've taken refuge in books this week. The real world has been too much. 1mo
Librarybelle I found I wanted to read last night, which it‘s been a few days since I really could. There‘s been a lot on my mind, and Heather Cox Richardson‘s post this morning puts it into words so eloquently. She‘s an amazing political historian who bases everything she says on facts and history. But, this weekend is usual routines, with Sunday being a family get together. These checkins are so nice. Thank you! ❤️ 1mo
Bookwormjillk Happy Saturday. I have a busy week next week so I have to do some prep this weekend. I also have been doing some research for books to read next year which is fun. 1mo
See All 27 Comments
Cuilin What a week! there‘s never been a time in my life where I prefer audiobooks to reading, but I did this week. All I wanted to do was curl up and listen to David Copperfield‘s life. Today I‘m going Providence RI to get my daughter for the long weekend. 1mo
Cuilin @Librarybelle H Cox Richardson is amazing. 1mo
DogMomIrene @Librarybelle @Cuilin I may need to suck it up and subscribe/pay for H Cox Richardson‘s substack. @Suet624 mentioned her to me. I‘ve tried Substack before and was overwhelmed by the number of emails I received. Wondering what you all would say the average read time is for her posts? Under ten minutes? Like could I make her a daily morning read with coffee? And then continue coffee with Litsy time (obviously 😉) 1mo
Cuilin @DogMomIrene I follow her on TikTok. 1mo
Suet624 @DogMomIrene @Librarybelle - I've followed Heather for years. You can read her on Facebook but the simplest method is subscribing on Substack. You don't have to pay for it if you don't want to. She is also doing an audio version if you're interested in that. It comes out later in the day. Did you see the post she wrote the day after the election? And her posts generally take less than 10 minutes to read. 1mo
Librarybelle @DogMomIrene @Suet624 @Cuilin I just started following her on FB, after reading the reposts friends would do! I also heard her speak a few weeks ago at a virtual event, and I was struck by how articulate and knowledgeable she is. I have her books and really need to read them. I agree with @Suet624 …it takes me less than 10 minutes to read her posts. 1mo
AllDebooks @Librarybelle How have I never heard of her? I'll be checking out her posts. Thank you. Knowledge is power! Honestly, these #chatterdays are a blessing and it's so much fun to check in. 1mo
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk it's always fun to plan future reads. I hope your prep gies well. 1mo
AllDebooks @Cuilin Same! I've found them better at quietening the mind. And I've certainly needed that. Enjoy your long weekend and have a safe trip. 1mo
AllDebooks @DogMomIrene I've just followed her FB page 1mo
AllDebooks I have to say Litsy has been a lifeline this week. I've avoided other socials and news, cos it was too much. I've never felt so overwhelmed. The love and compassion of Littens has been a source of comfort. I've never known on an online community that is so supportive of each other. Thank you #Littens 😊 1mo
AllDebooks I'm spending the weekend on planning #MidwinterSolace I think we're really going to need it. And it will run thru Dec and Jan again. ❄️❤️❄️ 1mo
TheBookHippie Well considering people I love and even some on here voted against my being it‘s 😵‍💫. The people being really quiet because they don‘t dare say hate out loud and actually do know how dangerous it is now for me, and my students especially, (and a large population of people that live in the US) is hard to digest. I‘m not trying to be divisive. It‘s truth. So I‘m grappling with that this morning. (edited) 1mo
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks 💙💙💙💙💙 1mo
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I couldn't sleep last night after reading Project 2025 earlier in the day. 1mo
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks I read it long ago. It‘s terrifying. 1mo
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie it really is. I'd readnewspaper reports but the actual document is so much more sinister abd divisive 1mo
DogMomIrene @Suet624 @Cuilin @Librarybelle @AllDebooks @TheBookHippie Thank you Littens! I‘m following her on Substack with notifications through the app only, which will pair nicely with some Litsy coffee time while keeping my email a little less jumbled. Already read her 11/8 post and I‘m all in. 1mo
Suet624 @DogMomIrene 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 1mo
Suet624 @TheBookHippie Ugh. I know. Thank you for sharing the truth. 1mo
kspenmoll Litsy has been my safety net. Taking it easy after election fallout. Talking with like minded friends has helped. Just reading & walking today. Nature soothes me. Trying to keep the terror at bay. 1mo
dabbe Thanks for the tag, @MaleficentBookDragon. 😘 I just have to say it: what a fucking week. I also picked a great week to have a dental implant removed--plus finding out I had a pretty bad infection. Just the cherry on the banana split that reeks of mold. But ... the sun keeps rising, and the earth keeps spinning. And this is a place of solace and healing. Thanks, Littens. #onedayatatime 💙 1mo
Catsandbooks Feeling overwhelmed, enraged, and exhausted. Been watching a lot of hallmark Christmas movies. My plan for the rest of the year is to really lean into all things comfort and cozy. I just wanna stay in and not deal with people. 1mo

It‘s #saturdaychatterday feel like a virtual coffee chit chat meet up? Here or on @AllDebooks page? or both?
My day is BUSY! I‘m working on having reasonable expectations and not getting/feeling overwhelmed.

kspenmoll I can sympathize with your feeling overwhelmed with too many expectations! Try & give yourself down times in between or do little thongs that refresh you! Thanks for all you do to keep this community going. Sending love . 💕 As for me, I hope to walk, read6, do some housework- then I am chaperoning at our next HS Homecoming dance! I love seeing the kids dressed up & dancing. (edited) 2mo
inthegreensandblues Reasonable expectations 👍💚 I've got some important things on the to do list, but it's a gray, cozy autumn day and I'm starting it with reading time and candles and coffee. 2mo
Avanders That‘s an important focus during the holidays! I already feel a bit overwhelmed 🫢 I‘m trying to allow myself to feel the excitement of the holidays, though, rather than stifling everything down in favor of the more practical aspects of living life… 🎄❄️♥️ 2mo

AllDebooks I've had a relaxing day of family visits. Now settling down to an evening of scary reading with #LosersClub November read 2mo
Sace Trying to get some reading done. I‘ve got a library book I have to finish. I‘ve already renewed it once. 2mo
Sace @AllDebooks is there a schedule for that somewhere? I don‘t have a copy of Salem‘s Lot, but I‘d love to try to read some others with y‘all (namely The Dead Zone and Needful Things). 2mo
AllDebooks @Sace #LosersClub is hosted by @BarkingMadRead Salem's Lot is Nov read. I think we're reading in publication order, is that right Kim? https://litsy.com/p/ckUxclFWRjJ1 2mo

This 500 page book is engaging, encompassing, and complex. Spanning 40 years, multiple countries, people, policies, methods of torture, and hope, this follows a few people living through immigration, deportation and escape. It‘s an incredible read- and expertly gives context to a complex multi-national issue. Exceptional.

Bookwormjillk This sounds fabulous. Just put a hold on it at my library. 2mo
Suet624 Oohhhh, thanks for the recommendation. Might not have picked it up otherwise. 2mo

So Much Blue: A Novel | Percival Everett
post image
Pickpick

Another great book by Everett. I love how different each of his books are and how they always surprise me. In this one he weaves together three events happening in the past and present in such a creative way. The three timelines slowly converge in the book as the events converge in the main character‘s life. I‘m a big fan.

BarbaraBB This was my first Everett and I loved it. You‘re so right about how each book is so different from the other. (edited) 2mo
Suet624 I gave this a “pick“ but I don't remember any of it. But I do know I love Percival's writing and how often he surprises me. 1mo

Think of this book as the story of an empath on steroids, brought on forcibly by the government. When two young sisters enter America seeking asylum, they are denied but given a very different kind of pathway to citizenship. This story brought to my mind the real American history of coercion, ‘medical‘ experiments, forced sterilization of BIPOC.

Suet624 Oh boy. Sounds rough. 2mo
