May 2025 #AuthorAMonth #Read2025 For the first few minutes I wasn‘t sure if I liked this book, but I quickly turned around into loving it. It is the story of a young man‘s life and how as a middle aged man he comes to understand why he became the person his and finally comes to peace with his past and himself. It also is a story of love, family, friendship, and art. There is a subtle allusion to his race while he was in graduate school (cont)⬇️

On a return flight from El Salvador 1979 he is profiled by Customs, a nerve-wracking experience for him and for me as a reader. As a white woman I have never been a victim of racial discrimination but the book is enlightening in that respect. Recommended! 1w

Librarybelle Good morning! I am excited to attend a mystery book event today. The rest of the weekend will be catching up on chores I missed doing this week because of taking Zeke to appointments. It‘s sunny right now, and hearing the birds chirping puts a smile on my face. Hope everyone has a good weekend! 2w

TheBookHippie We are preparing for exams here: my son has all his international baccalaureate exams this week and he is really anxious- so I‘m helping him BREATHE and go over things casually… two years of classes comes down to one paper in each subject- Hisory, English… etc -that you write in 5 parts on one subject in differing ways from ONE QUESTION. Then depending how you do it can count for certain amounts of college credits. It‘s worldwide so I get⬇️ 2w

Librarybelle Good morning! I‘m spending the day with a friend, which will be fun. Zeke has been off his steroid treatment in preparation for his appointment next week, and he started to show signs of discomfort on Thursday night. The rest of my weekend will be me monitoring him and giving him what medications I can to alleviate his symptoms enough to get him to eat again. Poor guy. Other than a couple incidences the past couple of weeks, he was doing well. 3w

I liked the interwoven stories and the parallels between the Kindertransport children of WWII and the refugee children separated from their parents at the US border in more recent times. It makes me very sad to think of these situations that are still affecting many refugees today.
