My workday read or it was until it started to annoy me. The narrator of the 3rd book bothered me for some reason.

#Dark #MayMontage A few years ago I went searching for THE dark, creepy story that‘s lurked in the corners of my imagination for years, & found this. It seems a whole generation of kids was traumatized by the same story & they first read it here, & now the internet is filled with info about it. The newest piece I saw is about replacing the sublime but terrifying artwork for more kid appropriate illustrations. @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Our new scary stories to tell in the dark episode is out. We take a walk down memory lane and muse on the cathartic aspects of a good horror story. Also, Peter comes face to face with his neuroses.

We took a trip back to our childhoods this week, as we read Alvin Schwartz's classic horror collection “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.“ We discuss what makes a story scary and what kind of stories scare us the most. In addition, we praise the artwork of Stephen Gammell, read aloud selections, and more. Also, please let us know what your favorite story is from the collection. Enjoy!

I read this every year around Halloween and I love it just as much every single time. This book introduced me to scary stories as a child and probably turned me into the horror fan I am today.

My husband wanted to watch Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I actually enjoyed how they adapted this to the books. My husband is not a reader, so he of course doesn't even remember the books and had nothing to compare it to, but he really seemed to enjoy it.
This is a free watch on one of my bingo cards.

What Till Martin Comes is another favorite of mine from this collection.

It all started with a Scholastic book fair and this collection of scary stories. 😂😂 #scarathlondailyprompts #story #teamslaughter
I loved these books as a kid and I‘m finally watching the movie. #scarathlon #TeamMonsterMash +11 pts
Another favorite from this collection about the hotel who stood on a #Grave
These illustrations still creep me out. 😱

One of my favorite stories in this collection is "The Walk." It's so fun to read aloud because it builds up this creepy atmosphere and then ends with instructing the reader to #Scream. I have made so many kids jump with this one. ?

The tagged book! This was one of my favorite childhood books & it's one of the books that turned me into a lifelong reader! 🖤📚 @ozma.of.oz #sundayfunday
I am not the fastest reader, nor do I have a lot of time, but I suppose every little bit helps. :) This week I finished the Buddy Read (Southern Book Club), read the tagged book (again). Short story collections are the way to go to grab points! Perhaps next year we can give points for participating in October swaps, too? We are sending scary books to our swap buddies, after all. :)🎃🧛🏻👻🧙🏻♀️☠️ @StayCurious #scarathlon #teamhendrix
Time for some campfire spooky stories! 👻🔥👻
1. This is one I‘ve had since I was a kid. And I remember it freaking me out. 😂
2. I think multiple authors for spooky stories. It‘s always interesting to see different takes on what is scary for a variety of people.
3. The Girl With the Yellow Ribbon. I couldn‘t wear necklaces for a month after I heard that story!
#SundayFunday Have a safe and fun Halloween! And don‘t forget to tag me!
Just watched this with my children. I suppose it‘s on point with it being Halloween week and all. That said I hate scary movies so this was TERRIBLE for me. They all loved it though. #halloween #scarystories #horror #booktomovieadaptation #help #save e
It‘s been years since I‘ve read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. But after reading the Goosebumps Retro Collection I‘ve been craving all of the nostalgic things. I figure I would remember a few of the stories, but I didn‘t. 😅 So it was like reading the whole thing over again. But I still enjoyed it.

Ghost stories, ghost towns, local ghost history, and a randomly displaced graphic novel: perfect for #Haunted prompt 17, Spooky Sunday! (That skull planter is always out. We'll get a plant for it eventually). #Ghost #GhostTown #Colorado #GhostStory
I found the cutest Halloween bookmark coloring page on Etsy. I love a good bookish craft. Especially when Halloween is involved. The shop name is Emily Cromwell Designs but there‘s a link to these specific bookmarks here https://wildwoodreads.com/2021/10/19/a-bookish-halloween-craft/
Watching the Scary Stories documentary. Loving it! ❤
It's available on the IMDBtv app if you're interested.

Starting today I will be posting a favorite book, or story, daily for 21 days to celebrate Halloween. Some will be creepy, some will be funny, some will be both.
Day 1: There's a chance that I wouldn't even be on Litsy to begin with, had it not been for my childhood fascination with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, leading to a lifelong love of books. Schwartz's macabre stories (many adaptations of folklore) were perfectly matched by 👇
A quick, fun, spooky read. I really liked a couple of the stories in this, but I couldn‘t tell if it was intended for kids or not. It seemed about the right reading level, but a bit too scary for grade school.

A great into to horror for kids who like to be scared. I love how the first section also has storytelling tips to get maximum fright! 29 stories = 435 total points plus 54 readathon minutes and 1 for participation. #scarathlon #teamhendrix
🎃 No. Scary or Horror books aren't my usual reading choice.

Today‘s #LittensDressedinBlood prompt:
When I think of Campfire Tales, I will always think of this book!
Short and creepy, the drawings add to the spooky.
Loved this
🍁I used to read the tagged book and others like it to my cousins round family bonfires.
🍁Not quite. I‘ve been debating on lengthening my Nonfiction November TBR into December since I won‘t come close to finishing it this month.

I've read this book on Halloween every year since I bought it in third grade at a Scholastic book fair. It started my journey into reading books that were creepy/spooky/scary and I love every reread of it as much as my first journey through its pages.

Shocktober Film # 17: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
I've never read the books so I was pleasantly surprised to find this was pretty creepy. I would've loved it if there was a bit more of an aging treatment on the film for a more 1968 feel, but a strong film for the spooky season.
#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView
👻 We had lots of kids last year so I‘m expecting quite a few but, who knows in today‘s atmosphere. That‘s why I bought treats that I would like too.
🎃 Nope. I don‘t change my backgrounds very often. Rather boring, I know. But I do love the background on this post.
Thanks for the tag, now I‘m tagging: @Chili and @Eggs
1. I think we will have some neighborhood kids and friends come by.
2. Nope! I haven‘t changed any backgrounds in years, probably.

I can‘t get into the cozy mystery I was reading.
So, I‘m going to give this book a try. It should be a quick read.
One of my friends loves it.

A few years ago I tryed to remember a book I read in elementary, & my sister tried to help. This came up as a suggestion & while we both knew it was wrong, we did talk at length about these books. Later I bought the boxed set of these versions (perhaps first suggestion, or cheaper 🤷) & didn't think anything of it. Later I learned about the heated feelings about the old vs. new illustrations 😂. New ones are #spooky, but original wins hands down.
This is a new movie to me: “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”

The Horror side! 😱Tomorrow I‘ll post the Stephen King side !
❤️😱🤯❤️ Scary Stories was one of my most beloved books and one of my earliest exposures to horror. I had no idea of the controversy (I tend to be pretty shocked to find how liberal my local/school libraries were as a child considering I live in a VERY conservative state) and it was both a fascinatingly nostalgic and heart-rending watch. I definitely recommend to fans of the books!
5pts for #TeamHarkness for #Scarathlon2020 for a total of 86pts
Sometimes revisiting a classic from one‘s childhood has mixed results. This was one of those occasions. I remembered loving these books as a kid, but I guess my taste is more demanding as a middle aged guy. The opening section that specializes in jump scares is a lot of fun. However, many of the stories were too brief and rushed to be the slightest bit creepy. The artwork is great!

I'm watching a documentary on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark on Amazon Prime and this popped up. How funny is that?
#104 of my year and since I am getting into the Halloween spirit with decorations and such I decided to do a re-read of this one! I read it a thousand times in 3rd grade, I was obsessed. I could never bring it home because my mom woulda beat me lmao but I loved this book so much. Haven‘t read books 2 & 3 yet but those are next up! Listening to Smile by Juice WRLD (with The Weekend). 🌻💀🌻
