The #1 "New York Times" bestselling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, is back with a vengeance ("Tangled Web")with this first book in an all-new trilogy and inviting readers to an even darker place on the map Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It s a pretty standard dried-up western town. There s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). INCLUDES AN EXCERPT FROM THE NEXT NOVEL IN THE SERIES, "THE DAY SHIFT""

Decided to read some Charlaine Harris. This is the first book in the Midnight, Texas series. It was pretty interesting and I did not see that ending coming! I‘ll definitely be continuing the series.

When TrueBlood came to TV I read every Charlaine Harris book I could get my hands on. Harper Connelly series was good & Sookie was good (for awhile)but none of the others did it for me

I don‘t know if I was really trying to like this, if I‘m being honest, as I burned myself out on CH & my reading tastes have gone in other directions

I think she had too many ideas here. This book resolved itself well enough, i probably will never read the next 2.

Fr3NcHtOaSt I did like these books and the show based off this series of books was really good. I am super sad it was canceled. Would have loved to see more. 10mo
5feet.of.fury @Fr3NcHtOaSt I did watch the show, it was a while ago but I think I remember they left it on a cliffhanger or a bad spot? It wasn‘t bad. IMO Charlaine just threw in Everything but the kitchen sink in this book which was my problem with the later Sookies, too. 10mo
Fr3NcHtOaSt @5feet.of.fury yeah they just left the show on a spot where it‘s like we need to know what happens next but nope it‘s canceled. And yes there‘s so much going on. That‘s how I felt with the last season of true blood. 10mo

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I wish I‘d somehow been forewarned that characters from other Charlaine Harris series had moved to Midnight, TX. I recognized Manfred because I recently finished the Harper Connelly series. But I haven‘t started the Lily Bard series or the Aurora Teagarden series. One of the characters was a friend of Lily‘s. I have no idea if any characters are friends or acquaintances of Aurora‘s. (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 I don‘t really know if it‘s necessary to have read the author‘s other series or her standalone books but I would like to have decided for myself. As I already said, I thoroughly enjoyed Midnight Crossroads. 10mo

1. Quite a few novels by Stephen King, and the Harry Potter series. I reread favorite books often.

2. Mystery in a small town.

Everyone who lives in the tiny town of Midnight, TX is there for a reason. It draws weirdos and misfits, people with secrets or who just want to let alone to be weird in peace. There is an interesting murder mystery that drives some of the action, but for me, the appeal is in getting to know the different characters, who all seem to share a sense of camaradie whether the really like each other or not. I hope I can get the TV series on one of my ⏬

LitStephanie streaming services, although based on this picture they really glammed up the attractiveness of all the characters, which is too bad. The author slowly reveals more about people, but in a very natural way. You never feel like things are being deliberately withheld but instead get to understand the people at the same pace as strangers usually get to know each other. Great characterization is what I am saying. 2y

Everyone in Midnight, Texas is a little bit unique, they've all ended up there for a reason, and no one there asks too many questions.

I really liked the unique cast of characters, and although I didn't really like the ending, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Traci1 I really enjoyed this series. Wish it were longer. 2y
CoffeeNBooks @Traci1 Yeah, I was disappointed to see that there were only 3 books in this series- I was hoping to immerse myself in a much longer series. 2y

I enjoyed this start to the series. It's very similar in style to the Sookie Stackhouse books (not surprising really), but it's more of an ensemble cast of characters. The audio narration was pretty good as well.

I'm taking a Science Fiction and Fantasy writing class. In our first class this particular series came up in discussion. I enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse novels, more than I enjoyed the True Blood tv series, so I thought I'd give it a try. And so, here I go into Midnight, Texas.

It was my aunt‘s funeral today. She was 50 and died of brain cancer. We weren‘t close bc of odd family dynamics but it turns out we should have been bc we shared a lot in common. The whole day made me sad so I came home to audio bake- two of my favorite things. Made chocolate chip cookies, cookies for my dog, and chocolate- chocolate chip banana bread.

Charms Owl: 4⭐️

I watched the show originally and was really excited when I found out it was based on a book. It's the most casual use of fantasy I've ever read and it made it super easy to follow along. Manfred is a psychic who just moved to Midnight to start in someplace new and quickly fits in with the people who call it home. Each character has something a little different about them that makes them unique and perfect for Midnight.

Schnoebs @birdsong I‘m using this for a book about a cult for #52booksin52weeks because there‘s a white supremacy group called the Men of Liberty in it and are focused on stock piling weapons to protect themselves from the immigrant invasion and what not. And from what I read, I think this will be the closest I get to a cult lol 5y

Had a bunch of stuff going on with school and work that I had to put reading on the back burner. Now I need to finish all of these before the end of the month for my required reading for class, before my library loans are due and to complete a few more classes for #owlsreadathon2019 Don‘t mind me as I drown in papers (happy pages, but so many pages).

I'm surprised at the mixed reviews of this fantasy/mystery. I really loved it. It's dark and funny and charming, and listen...there's an extremely rude talking cat named Mr Snuggly, and that's all I really need in a novel. I often have trouble keeping track of characters and I definitely have trouble with names (in actual life, and in books!), but the characters here are so distinct and sharply drawn, I had zero issues.

What if you found the place you belonged all your life by accident? If you watched the TV show forget all of that and read the book. This is the first in the trilogy, but the whole trilogy rocks. I couldn‘t stop reading until I finished all three. The story is about becoming family and fighting the forces of darkness what more could you ask for!

“He loves his mother. He just had a hard time remembering some days.” This quote meant so much to me. My mother and I went through so much growing up I love her dearly but sometimes the thoughts of what happened when I was younger come seeping though which causes me to have an attitude with her for no reason. PenguinInFlight @speljamr ugh, it‘s the worst, isn‘t it? Every winter I ask myself why I live here (“here” being Upstate NY, right on Lake Ontario) on purpose, LOL. Although I was born and raised here, I HATE driving in snow more than just about anything. I know how to drive in snow, even though it scares me...but a lot of people don‘t, and that‘s more what I worry about - the people going way too fast in a freaking whiteout. 🙄 6y

I forgot my book at work today. 😫😫😫 I‘ve been wanting to reread this one, anyway, so I‘m going to read a bit before bed. I hate starting a new book when I‘m already reading one. I don‘t do well reading multiple books at a time...but I also have to read before bed. #booknerdproblems 😫🤷🏻‍♀️

Ruri_kaichou I read multiple books at a time, but I get your struggle. It's sad when you can't read the book you were expecting to read. 6y
PenguinInFlight @Ruri_kaichou I wish I could. The only way I can do it is if they are drastically different formats - a graphic novel and a novel, or a novel and an audiobook. Reading two actual novels drives me crazy and I have no idea why I read almost 20% of this last night, though, so apparently it worked out all right. ☺️ 6y
