I‘m almost certain that this was my favorite read this year. It's a memoir with a mystery tied in which completely engrossed me. I took my time reading this and I am glad I did.

Sarah Perry openly shares about her mother‘s murder when she was 12 years of age. She structures her story to fluctuate between her life before and after her mother‘s death. To compound her tragedy, she was bounced between family members often at a moment‘s notice. She only felt accepted by them instead of feeling wanted by them. The quality of the narration definitely brought about a somber vibe that added to the intensity of the story. #MountTBR
Heartbreaking. A story of how a young girl's mother gets murdered almost in front of her and her life after. Just so sad, so be prepared.
Book 74
4/5
Such an incredibly sad but beautiful memoir about a daughter and the murder of her mother. Author does a good job of weaving the events of “before” and “after” the murder. It can get a little confusing on who was who and all the names, but you eventually figure it out.

Starting this one tonight for March #BookSpin... I know this one is going to be hard to read. I don‘t know if I‘m emotionally ready.
Wow. A tough but phenomenal read. Perry revisits her mother‘s murder. Lots of potential triggers (abuse and violence). Lovers of memoir or true crime will enjoy. #MountTBR
At OUTSpoken, a day of author presentations and discussions of LGBTQ+ life.
This is such a good book. I haven‘t been able to put it down.
“These are all small pieces, like shards of colored glass in a kaleidoscope; I spin and combine them to make a glowing, shifting picture. But they are finite in number. I cannot know my mother as others know their parents - I will never have an adult conversation with her.”
Perry‘s memoir about her mother‘s murder is heartbreaking and ugly, but it‘s also a lovely tribute to her mother‘s life and their relationship. An easy 5 stars.

Look at me, slowly getting through my old BOTMs!
Equal parts true crime and gripping memoir—I had a hard time putting the book down. Sarah Perry was 12 years old when she awoke in the middle of the night to the sounds of her mom being viciously murdered in the next room. This well-written book is the story of her mom, their lives together before that night, the crime and it‘s aftermath. I loved her voice and her message. Very powerful.

There have been a lot of great books this year, but this one (After the Eclipse) hit me hard. 💔
I thought this book was well written and worth my #botm pick
A well researched book written by Sarah Perry about her mother‘s murder. But it was also so honest about her own feelings and reflections about her life before and after. A great book. #nonfiction
Sarah Perry tells her story here, of being 12 and present in the house while her mother was murdered, alongside the aftermath and her family‘s history. This book is completely mesmerizing, but I had to repeatedly put it down because it‘s so emotional. Perry manages to infuse every word with the anger, fear, sadness, and disorientation of a lost and grieving teen. I can‘t recommend it enough. #botm
1. Tagged. I've had to put down and pick up this one so much; I need uninterrupted reading time!
2. Went up north; visited my mother's childhood home and the family graves (Memorial Day tradition).
3. Barbecue chicken or pulled pork

Devastatingly beautiful, a heartfelt homage written by a daughter who lost her mother and her own identity to a brutal killing. Crystal Perry was murdered in her home, while 12yr old Sara slept just feet away. This is Sarah‘s memoir of the events, before & after and her quest to honor her mother‘s memory. I‘m not sure how I feel about the immediate family but I‘m sure Crystal is so proud of the young woman Sarah became. Thanks, Steph 💕

Woohoo🎉🎉Surprise #BookMail🤗🤗🤗My daughter was able to include both my Sephora order and the tagged memoir ,which was gifted to me from my girl @Reviewsbylola with my hubby‘s business mail. So happy because I TOTALLY wasn‘t expecting to see this stuff until JULY! Thanks, Steph for sharing your #BOTMdump with me💖💖💖
Sarah Perry pays #homage to her mother in this heartbreaking book about her mother‘s murder. #aprella
Brought 99 exams home to grade this afternoon. Forgot to bring home the key (or the exam copy so that I could make a new key). Clearly, this is a sign that I needed to practice some self care today and sit in my fox slippers and finish this book. #teachersoflitsy
Sneaking in a few more pages tonight before the great Litsy shutdown and before I get exams to grade in three classes and papers to grade in the fourth. Who made that stupid schedule? Oh, wait...that was me. #teachersoflitsy
Sarah Perry was only 12 when her mother was attacked and murdered in their home. It was 12 years before her killer was arrested. This memoir is both Perry's retelling of the crime, it's impact on her life and the eventual trial and her attempt to reconstruct who her mother was as a person and deepen her connection of the woman she only knew as a mom. Very well done and affecting. Perry is a talented writer.
It‘s been soooo busy here. I‘ve been stressed to the max and nearly told one of my (3) bosses to go fuck himself today. Then, a former employee (the worst, you guys, just cried all.the.time) asked me to be a reference and I legit broke out in hives. I‘m hoping Dr. Teals and a book will fix me up. I‘ve also got Jack Daniels waiting in the wings.
This week on the podcast we discussed and reviewed Sarah Perry‘s memoir After the Eclipse. It‘s a tough read, but one we think is really necessary in a world ever more interested in true crime entertainment.
Yesterday was like a second Monday, only busier. I needed a couple more days of Spring Break! I did manage to sneak away for a little comfort food and a couple of chapters in the afternoon, which always makes any day brighter. Happy Wednesday, Littens!
I know that #freakyfriday doesn‘t start for almost a week but what can I say, True Crime is my jam and I just couldn‘t wait to start this pick from @svenezia @monalyisha
Sophie and Anthony (the boyfriend) are both passed out on the couch right now so I think I should sneak in a few pages before getting ready for his work party. You guys, this morning he said what might be my favorite sentence to date. “I‘m going to do the dishes babe, but you should go read.” ♥️
Just started, and I can already feel the tears starting. 😭
Loving this one! A memoir that reads like a suspense novel. 👍🏻
Here‘s our current lineup!

I plan to start with the tagged book and work from there.
I own the Sarah Perry book, but am tempted to pick up the kindle version as well. Does anyone else do this when ebook versions go on sale? (I‘m currently reading I‘ll Be Gone in the Dark and it is phenomenal.)
Another #ebookdeal that was a previous BOTM selection.
Organizing my bookshelves today! This is my stack of TBR/“started but never finished”s. 😂 Does not include the insane amount of Kindle books I have yet to read. I‘ve been in a real slump lately so I‘m hoping this helps me get out of it. Thinking I might start with the tagged book since I‘ve been really into true crime podcasts again as of late. #unreadshelfproject
Is this just some book printing mistake or is this supposed to be there as a symbol of one of Hutchinson‘s blood droplets? #readingintoit
I put this down for a while, excited to finish!
