But Mamma, I don't particularly want to dance with Edmund Bertram. *stomps foot a la Lydia Bennet.
“Let him have all the perfections in the world, I think it ought not to be set down as certain that a man must be acceptable to every woman he may happen to like himself.” YOU TELL HIM, FANNY
Still my favourite Austen. I never reread but returning to this one after about 10 years has made me feel I should try rereading more often. Fanny annoys a lot of people but I love how steadfast and true to herself she is, she knows what she feels is right and never departs from it even when it would be easier to change for other people. I also find the whole supporting cast hilarious - Mrs Norris and Lady Bertram 😂 I need to rewatch the film
I‘m SO excited to reread this. I haven‘t opened it since I was 14 but it‘s always been my favourite Austen (unpopular opinion but I won‘t back down). I never reread books tbh but I want to make an effort to get into it when it‘s classic novels that I know have more to say to me than I grasped the first time.
What a pleasant surprise to spot 4 friends while reading! 💕 I've given up on working out today, which is very disappointing as I won't meet my original #BFC weekly goal... But it did take a week that included injury, the YMCA closing for the holiday, an overnight visit from a friend, and a stomach bug to stop me reaching that goal. Instead I'll try to finish a book today before check-in! #BookFitnessChallenge #BFCr2 #BookNerdHerd @wanderinglynn
It's almost 11:30 AM, and I've managed some water and saltine crackers. Very bummed out to be feeling so poorly when I was so looking forward to a morning run, weights, and time for spiritual practice, but thankful that I can spare the time to rest in bed and read a good book. Hopefully this sickness will pass quickly! 🤞
I woke up at 3 AM with severe nausea and stomachache, and I've been taking chewable Pepto Bismol ever since. It's now 8:30 AM and I'm still in bed feeling sick. Not sure if I can run today or do weights... but at least I have a good book! #BookFitnessChallenge #BFC #BFCr2 #BookNerdHerd @wanderinglynn #MakeMeReadIt
Long, great day with my childhood best friend visiting! We hiked, we kayaked (which apparently doesn't count for Fitbit active minutes), we had a great time. 😊 Now she's back in South Carolina and I'm settled into bed with a good book! I plan on running in the morning and doing weights at the YMCA with my mom, but no long walks - I'll be rooting on the #LitsyWalkathon-ers from the sidelines! 🎉 #BookFitnessChallenge #BFC #BFCr2 #BookNerdHerd
Bedtime reading 💕 I'm reading too many books at once already but #MakeMeReadIt has given me an excuse to start one more! 😂 (Plus, this one is fun and light, unlike my other print and ebook reads at the moment!) #readathon
The votes are in for the #MakeMeReadIt #Readathon! 🎉 I'll be starting Mansfield Park very soon! For the sets of ties, I'll decide when I get to them what order to read them in. I'm very excited about An Orchestra of Minorities, which is near the bottom of the list (thanks @Emilymdxn for voting for it 😘), so I'll try to at least read until I get to it! I'm moving to California on July 31 and not taking any books with me... Let's get reading!!
I'm reposting my #MakeMeReadIt #readathon stack for July in hopes of getting a few more votes before July 1st! Thank you SO much to those of you who already voted. 💕
Just comment with a book (or two, I'm a softie and will accept multiple books from one person 😘) in the above list! I'm going to read them in the order of the most votes to the least, and as you can see from the results so far, Mansfield Park is in the lead!
@TheReadingMermaid
I continue to love this book as much as ever. No one creates characters or makes fun of them as gently as Austen. This is probably her most subtle book, and I‘m so glad I have the Bonnets at Dawn Facebook group to discuss it with me and make me think about it in new ways.
Finished this yesterday! Not my favorite JA, but still good. I have bow read all six of her novels!
I found Fanny difficult to embrace until more than halfway through, but she‘s definitely the best of the bunch.
#12 for #14books14weeks and checking off a couple prompts for summer reading challenges, plus working ahead for family JA book club by email.
I‘ve never encountered the phrase “knocked up” to mean exhausted, so I must admit to a little confusion every time I see it. And it‘s in here a lot. Poor Fanny, always getting knocked up.
“‘Selfishness must always be forgiven, you know, because there is no hope of a cure.‘”
Steam is coming out my ears at this.
This audiobook won‘t tell me who the narrator is, so I‘m choosing to believe it‘s the ghost of Jane Austen herself reading her own work to me.

As usual Austen amazes me 💕
You #takethelongwayhome when you travel by horse and buggy, which is why Austen‘s novels always include months long visits with family and friends.
I‘d love to know what everyone‘s least favorite Austen is. Mine is S&S so it will be the next one of hers I reread I think. I‘m hoping it was just a timing issue and I love it the second time around.

I enjoyed rereading “Mansfield Park” for the
#ArdentlyAustenBookClub
I first read it in 2013. It was good to revisit the well drawn characters of this cautionary tale.
I started this book in 2013 or maybe 2012? It makes much more sense now why I never finished it. Although miraculously I now can say I finished it! I picked it back up for the shop's book club and because of my reading system selection was to finish a book I had put down. I'm still amazed I finished reading this story. This has also taught me I no longer will be ashamed of not wholeheartedly loving Jane Austen's writing.

Boy, I have been in such a slump with reading. I started three books and can't seem to finish any of them. :/

Fanny Price has certainly got a #heartofgold. It‘s impossible not to root for her as you read through Mansfield Park. This happens to be my favorite Austen, so I plan to reread it at some point.

New baby for my Austen collection 💙

It‘s a reread and so far I enjoy it much more than the first time. It was my least favourite Austen so far 😅.
Our theme for our very first book club is Jane Austen and we meet next week. My friend Heather is reading Mansfield Park for the first time because it is one of the few she hasn't read yet. This question came up at Knitting Night and we couldn't stop laughing. Makes even more excited about our, hopefully, unconventional book club meet next week! 😊😂 #janeausten

For the #duchess I nominate Mrs Norris (boo hiss) from Mansfield Park. She is mean and has highly questionable notions on child rearing, but fawns on anyone with wealth and influence.
@LibrarianRyan
😂 Sure, the Austen hero I find least interesting.

About halfway through! The monotony is getting a bit better, but I really wish I could root for the heroine... She's just SO BORING!
Seems fitting to spend Jane Austen‘s birthday reading this book. I saw a theater production of MP last night so it‘s interesting to see the differences in the stage adaptation. I needed to take a few notes at the beginning to get the family straight. Why doesn‘t Miss Ward have a first name? 🤔 And her married name of Mrs Norris keeps pulling me out of the story and into Harry Potter land. Thankfully Severus has been mentioned only once (so far🙃)
Happy Birthday, Jane Austen! 🎉🎈🎂 Thank you for your wonderful stories and characters that have made so very many people happy! 💕📚
Ps... also thank you for Mr. Darcy. 😉
Apparently people don't like the heroine in this one - I had no problems with her.
Took me a while to get all the various Mrs. "husband's last name"'s straight.
