Fancy a wee look through two illustrated editions of Stephen Fry's Greek Myths series? I just put a video up on my BookTube channel. I'm enjoying these books so much.

An illustrated edition of Stephen Fry‘s Mythos of the Greek myths.
This was a lot of fun. Fry‘s comedic chops definitely shine in these irreverent takes on the Greek myths we all already know. But he‘s also produced some versions that I had never heard of. And the illustrations were gorgeously colored and very striking. Would recommend this to any mythology collection! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

REALMS OF IMAGINATION (companion book to a British Library exhibit)
MYTHOS, HEROES, and TROY by Stephen Fry
5⭐ I loved learning about mythology during my college years and before starting my final exams for my last year of college I started reading this book and I was so excited becausefor me it was excellent. Then right after my last exam more than a year ago my head said "nope! We're not reading anymore" But fortunately that passed and as soon as I managed to hold a book for more than 5 seconds I went back to this one and I finished it today. ➡
Husband and I are reading a story a day. 🤓 Filling in lots of gaps and the bizarre antics are such fun!
I say this about every other day, but I would have never guessed in a million years I would like mythology. I was dreading it when I began my Humanities grad program just about 4 years ago now, but to my great delight loved ALL the earliest lit! The first piece, Gilgamesh, was a revelation!
This was a great collection of Greek myths, told with Stephen Fry's wry sense of humor and wit. Definitely recommend the audiobook which he reads himself. There are so many characters and stories but it is easy to follow if you don't get too caught up in the ancestry. I especially enjoyed how he explains the Greek origin of a lot of words based on certain names or stories.
4.75/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖 #greekmythology #myths The only problem was the Hades and Persephone myth. Hades isn‘t the bad guy everyone thinks he is.
Mostly fascinating but also detailed reworking of the main Greek myths. Took me longer than I had intended, but good. Some have a bit of sex and gore!
I am starting this one now. Looks fun.
Borrowed this from the library again as I loved it so much the first time plus I felt I had to rush parts of it. I‘m going to take it more slowly this time and really savour every moment
1. Several one books came to mind, but the tagged book is one of my all time favorites. I've recommended to dozens of people.
2. Not really. They can be impactful when you see them on the spine in a bookstore, but I perfer a longer title.
Thank you for the tag @TheSpineView #Two4Tuesday

Stephen Fry is smart, funny and a great storyteller. I have loved his retelling of these fabulous Greek myths. 🏛
Hi, #foodandlit friends!
I'd like to share this short video that lists many great #Greek stories for March!
It helped me and I hope it does the same for you! 😊

❤️ I LOVE BOOK SALES ❤️
So pleased that I purchased this wonderful series. These editions are gorgeously illustrated and have great footnotes with plenty of explanations and I really enjoyed reading some of the notes about how modern language has been adapted from the Greek myths. Can't wait to read the rest of the books, after a brief reprieve, of course. My head can only tolerate so much Greek at one time! 😂
Finishing this up today. What a great series! I've even convinced someone else to get it due to my raving and the fabulous pictures within these volumes. Always makes a bookworm smile when you turn other people on to good books
Also, the footnotes are endless. I feel like I'm reading House of Leaves, or Crime & Punishment again 🤣 the difference is I find them fascinating as I love seeing the words that have their origin from ancient Greek
This is a damn pretty book!
Love the cover, and the beautiful pictures inside. These might be the prettiest books I have now 😂
I'm on The Third Order right now!
My #bookmail came 2 days early and perfect timing, as we're getting heavy snow and I called in the rest of the week already.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 279.

Loved the short stories and learning about the Greek gods in a fun way.
I‘m so glad I listened to this on audio - Stephen Fry reads it perfectly. It‘s brilliantly written, I like the way that after the story he explains it‘s impact on modern day language.
Mythos is a fun and fact-filled read. It might be more of a beginner‘s guide version of Greek mythology, but I reckon even the more passionate Greek myth readers could read it just for fun. I'm about as far from a Greek myths tragic as you can imagine (I haven't even read Circe), so I appreciated Fry's accessible approach. Fry does a great job of telling the story of the Greek myths, with his own brand of humour mixed in. Whilst I enjoyed, I have to admit I prefer Greek mythology stories told within a singular story/plot. Sometimes I felt a bit lost in the many gods & myths & after a while I lost a bit of interest. I listened on audio narrated by Fry & he does a wonderful job of narrating. It's obvious Greek mythology is a passion of his. ⬇
Stephen Fry may very well be the best narrator ever! I‘m listening to this on audio, and I‘m entranced. I adore everything about this book, but Frys retelling of Greek Mythology is captivating! What a perfect book for summer. Go out and get it... ( I actually bought a copy while listening)
I‘ve spent a lot of hours in a tractor cab the last few days doing tillage work so Dad can plant soybeans, and that means lots of audiobook time. This audiobook was fantastic. I‘ve always enjoyed mythology, and Stephen Fry‘s retellings of Greek myths are organized clearly and wonderful to listen to. I also appreciated the fun facts he included about how these myths and names can still be seen in our daily language.

I haven't had much time for reading this weekend. I'm on a road trip with hubby.
We've been listening to Mythos on the road.
Here are some of the sights and views from our trip so far and my silly posing.

I listened to Stephen Fry read this audiobook and it was an absolute delight. 💚
He put a fresh spin on the Greek myths and tales, adding humor here and there to keep things interesting, and he definitely didn't shy away from the darker aspects either.

Day 29
Ok so I‘ve fallen into a Ancient Greece 🇬🇷 Mythology hole and I might be here for awhile. Just started this and it‘s SO good!!
#BookReport #WeeklyForecast. Finished Mythos on audio. I was very engaged through the first half but started getting confused and bored through the second half. There was a funny little aside at the end of Narcissus‘s story about a certain narcissist. 3 1/2 🌟 this was my Feb #Bookspin. The Birchbark House was a good MG book for #BBRC Native American prompt. I am going to have to stay organized to accomplish all of my April buddy reads.
Book 34/150.
I enjoyed this one and found it very interesting. I didn‘t really know a lot about the Greeks myths apart from the well known ones like Pandora, Medusa etc, and reading a few retellings like Circe by Madeline Miller. Consequently, I really liked finding out about the others. Stephen Fry‘s sense of humour shows through making it an entertaining read.
I love building my #BookspinBingo board. I think I have a good chance of getting 2 bingos this month 🤞🏼
Considering the number of times I've listened to this book now I was surprised to see I'd never reviewed or even marked it as read on here...
Stephen Fry shines through with his wit and humour as he devotedly retells these ancient myths. I thoroughly enjoyed his book (again).
2 books down, and roughly 3 more hours of reading for #20in4 #20in4Readathon

Listening to Stephen Fry is always entertaining and I too have a long and loving relationship with Greek myths. It was particularly enjoyable to augment listening to Percy Jackson with the girls with Fry‘s more traditional retellings.
After all the books I‘ve read on Greek mythology it‘s not that easy to impress me. I loved that Stephen Fry did a pretty good job overall even though I wish he‘d gone for a less mainstream version of Persephones abduction. I swear I screamed when he mentioned Percy Jackson and I love that he knows it was wrong to call Pluto a dwarf planet. I loved his acknowledgment of his own place in the retellings, and I loved how he kept things interesting ➡️
I absolutely loved Stephen Fry‘s retelling of the Greek myths. He adds a lovely narrative and humor to the stories and his narration was really enjoyable. Now I have to read his Heroes and Troy because my Greek mythology obsession is hitting hard...
Long as you take it easy not trying to remember all the names of Ancient Greek gods and goddesses, this is a great entertainment. I especially enjoy the additional layer of the story telling that Fry inserted to some those well-known myths, whether of the connection with a different version under different culture/era, or of the origins of words. And Fry‘s narratives in the audiobook is just so funny and superb! Love his imagination.
This was an absolute pleasure to listen to. I greatly enjoyed the references to Neil Gaiman (another lover of mythology) and Percy Jackson (who brought many to mythology for the first time), really turning this into a version of these myths for everyone. The etymological tidbits throughout are good fun. I quite enjoyed Fry‘s appendices at the end, adding a little nonfiction to the mix.
