Red Queen
Red Queen | Christina Henry
The author of "Alice" takes readers back down the rabbit hole to a dark, twisted, and fascinating world based on the works of Lewis Carroll... The land outside of the Old City was supposed to be green, lush, hopeful. A place where Alice could finally rest, no longer the plaything of the Rabbit, the pawn of Cheshire, or the prey of the Jabberwocky. But the verdant fields are nothing but ash and hope is nowhere to be found. Still, Alice and Hatcher are on a mission to find his daughter, a quest they will not forsake even as it takes them deep into the clutches of the mad White Queen and her goblin or into the realm of the twisted and cruel Black King. The pieces are set and the game has already begun. Each move brings Alice closer to her destiny. But, to win, she will need to harness her newfound abilities and ally herself with someone even more powerful the mysterious and vengeful Red Queen..."

I loved Alice.

I understand Alice‘s love of Hatchet. Just as weird and adult as Alice but just not as good as Alice. The ending was great and I look forward to book 3!

Nice ending to a dark and gritty duology. Not as dark as the first book but has a more adventure focused plot. World building was so good and descriptions were vivid. Enjoyed the character development and relationship built even further. Ending wasn't how I expected things to go but even better.

Very much enjoyed this continuation to Alice. I love what Christina Henry does with her books. They have this insider sense of understanding. Cause and effect, how consequences are good or bad not just bad. She makes Alice and Hatcher relatable, realistic and always growing.

Book 11 in the O.W.L.s readathon prompt=Defense Against Dark Arts=Read a book with an R in the title (due to Redactum spell).I changed this book from original tbr b/c I made a mistake🙄. In this story, Alice and Hatcher continue their voyage with the purpose to find Hatcher's daughter. You will see more dark and gory adventures but less graphic or frequent than book 1. It is a slow story with some boring scenes.3⭐️End has mix feelings-ok-soso-ok

As soon as I finished Alice I couldn‘t wait to jump in to the sequel. I was a bit disappointed with this one. It isn‘t as dark or addictive as the first book and I found myself getting a bit bored. Is much more character-driven than the first. As a reader who loved plot-driven books I got a bit bored but I did enjoy seeing what happened to Alice and Hatcher. #Retelling #Adult #Horror #3Stars

This one had a completely different feel than the first and in the beginning I wasn‘t sure how I was going to feel about it. In the end I loved it. Alice and Hatcher ... and all the characters really ... are very believable for who/what they are. I am definitely a fan of of Christina Henry and want to read more of her works!

1. The sequel to Alice. Alice has survived the perils of the first book and is now on a mad journey through a dark forest full of evil magic and all sorts of fun. Sort of Alice in Wonderland meets The Brothers Grimm so far.

✨Well... A little disappointed with the second book in the Alice duology? Series? I have no idea. I'm hoping duology, because it seemed like Henry was running out of ideas, therefore alot of it was drug out and repeated...alot of repetition. 🌹

natidi08 What's you're favorite Alice retelling? Or which would you recommend? 7y
abbsinwonderland @natidi08 honestly, right now, I'd say this series of retelling is. It's very dark and kind of brutal, but I love the way the characters have been mixed together. I enjoyed Heartless by Marissa Meyers too, although that book was pretty conversational and lot of people had mixed emotions on it. Nonetheless, I enjoyed that one alot too. 7y
natidi08 @abbsinwonderland Cool, I'll add it to my TBR, then! I read Heartless and liked it a lot. Also read the Alice in Zombieland series though that one shouldn't even be classified as a retelling per se... But I enjoyed that one as well. 7y
abbsinwonderland @natidi08 I've been really undecided on the Zombieland series because Im very opinionated about zombies lol. But if you enjoyed Heartless as well, I'll definitely have to check out the Zombieland series next probably! I wanted to order it last time I ordered books 7y

Loved the second book in this Alice series! It is a different setting from the first yet still manages to be a cohesive world with the settings and characters of the first tale. I did like how the author separated Alice from the male protagonist and let her come into her own even more. I wished there was a bit more back story on the white queen and red queen, but otherwise a fantastic read!

398.2 The first one has been on my TBR list for awhile now. I need to get to it. This one sounds good too. 7y
sparrowssavvy @398.2 I love the unique take on the Alice in Wonderland concept. And it wasn't the completely stereotypical concept that can sometimes be seen in Alice retellings. I'd love to hear your thoughts when you read it! 7y

I liked this one...but I liked it less than the first. Rather than being based on Through the Looking Glass (seriously why can no one adapt that?) it seems to be based on Germanic folklore. There are dark woods and goblins and fire demons and a queen that if I'm not mistaken has her roots in the Snow Queen story. A great book really, but not the wonderland based sequel I wanted.
