I read this the first time about a decade ago. I‘m subbing in a class that is reading it. I thought I might like it this time, but I don‘t. I don‘t like stream of consciousness writing, and while I acknowledge Holden‘s pain, I still think if he stopped whining, he would feel better. He drives me crazy.
One of these books is a hilarious memoir. One is a #classic I haven‘t read. #gratefulreads
1. At times I just reach that stage while reading a book wherein I don't feel like turning the page and continuing with the narrative. I then simply pick another book from my TBR list and keep on going.
2. When it starts to feel like I'm forcing myself to get the book over with just for the sake of completing it.

#bannedbooksweek One of my local used bookstores has had this display up most of the month. Some of the most powerful and relevant books I have read have been challenged over the years.
Happy banned books week & my last (day 7) #7days7covers. What are you reading to celebrate banned books week?!
What sticks out about Holden was how quickly he described his younger siblings as intelligent people. Some teens my age are quick to scoff at kids: they forget they once were a child too. But Holden, as edgy as he seems, never lets go of childhood. Maybe a defense mechanism after his brother's death. Maybe it's common in all teens. I wonder: does he still wish to save Allie, or has he gone too deep, and now tries to catch himself from the fall?

Other than the swear words which I skipped everytime, I really did 😂, I thought Holden was a decent kid. He really was. Good thing he decided to eventually turn his life around after the Author made it look like he really was heading for a very bad fall. I wish I read this when I was still young and in school back in Ireland. But I wouldn't add this book to the Top 100 though.
1) I was just pissed that he was a rich brat throwing his life away.
2) The Big Bang Theory
3) Coffee; depends on when I eat. Likely Mini-Wheats.
4) Pacific Time Zone (about 2 1/2 hours north of the metro Seattle area)
5) Yellow Churchill

I've havent posted in a little over a year now but I'm back! My life has slowed down a little as classes are done and I'm on rotations so hopefully I can start posting again. Missed you guys!
Among all the other terrific covers i had to pick the most boring of them all, however the content made up for it, absolutely enjoyed the book and holden‘s view of everything resonated with me being a cynical person myself.
Look what's now on kindle!
Holden pulled me into his life and held me captive in his thoughts, his worries, his hypersensitivity, his anxiety, his depression, his heartache, his drunkenness, his loss of self, his search for identity and purpose, and his strangeness.
The 3 day directionless journey was brutal- that much smoking, that much drinking, that much profanity, that much loss, that much disconnect, that much loneliness- it was a spiral into emptiness.👇🏽
We are back to regular posting with our first guest episode ever. We dive into this staple of high school English class #1001books #soundcloud #googleplay #applepodcasts
I am not a “white, relatively affluent, permanently grouchy young man with no real problems at all” and I love Catcher in the Rye and so does my husband who also isn‘t a young white male. People love books for other reasons and that‘s cool. Choose to hate it or love it. I dislike Wuthering Heights and that‘s ok.

Two classics from my collection for two prompts:
🔸️ Il giovane Holden (The Catcher in the Rye) #white
🔹️ L'amante di Lady Chatterley (Lady Chatterley's Lover) #monochromatic
No reason for why it took so long. Actually, I take that statement back...I was never really interested. Even now I‘m not sure. I just feel like I am supposed to. Also my nephew read this in his English Lit Class and I can‘t have him knowing a story that I don‘t. He thinks I‘m a Reading Goddess! I gotta live up to my bookish-reputation!!😉
My little at home stack of YA (I mainly borrow from the library!)😁
Catcher in the Rye is a classic that I first read in high school and felt so much relation. I‘ve read it so many times and can never get sick of it!
Also in high school, the only books I borrowed from the library was of course, Sarah Dessen! I just love love love her books and still read them! 💏
And of course Percy Jackson, brought my love for Greek mythology to life! ⚡️ #24in48
Goodwill find. They had a lot of good books (they are 69 cents there that price tag is from somewhere else). #thriftstorebooks #frugalreader

1. Catcher in the Rye, for sure. My first tattoo was a quote from this one.
2. All time favorite is Zeppelin (see #4), but MCR was my everything in high school. Also have a tattoo of a lyric from them.
3. I dyed my hair a bunch of colors like this!
4. My lucky shirt.
5. Motorola slvr 😎📞
I remembered not really enjoying this book, but this read was better than I remembered it. Still not my favourite - I can‘t quite wrap my head around Holden - but glad I gave it another try.
Straight off the bat, I actually liked the narrator (Holden Caulfield). He‘s a bratty, rebellious teenager with a tendency towards profanity, tangential thinking, and wild exaggeration. Salinger‘s characterisation was superb; it sounded so much like the diary of a teenage boy, you‘d believe one had written it... #jazzyjune @Eggs #lostandlonely In this classic, the MC attempts to isolate himself from society and is directionless.
Nothing quite like a well worn book! 😁
Realized we never read this in school... so I saw it at the thrift store and picked it up. Gave it to my mom to read first and she said “the main character is a total cynical asshole... reminds me of you. You should read it!” Anyways I read it and I thought it was great! Made me laugh a LOT. Which is not a review I hear a lot about this book but it‘s really true, it‘s hilarious.
An emotional, ecstatic journey. What a classic. The jokes, the sadness, the deeply driven psychic issues. It‘s such an easy read, yet profound, engaging both the heart and the mind. This is pop culture slash literature slash art at its finest. The story is aimless, and wandering, but never unsure of itself. Salinger taps into what it is to be human so adeptly—even 65 years after its pub date it still feels current and totally recognizable....
1. The lady I volunteer for praised me to her coworker ☺️
2. The tagged
3. St. Louis Blues I don‘t do bball
4. The Old Man and the Sea
Thanks @DebbieGrillo for taking over and starting this back up! I hope @MinDea is well and returns sooner than later

Painted Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye for my english project, had a lot of fun drawing this angsty teen
My latest library book sale haul. Which of these have you read?
“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you‘re all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.” - J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
I drew this picture to express my love for this book—every time I read it, I see Holden a little differently!
I can't believe I waited so long to read this book.
After first hearing of it as a teenager in American teen mags, I finally read this novel at the age of 46! It was brilliant & I thoroughly loved it! I can see why so many young Americans enjoyed it, even as a mature adult I found it funny and so very honest. Holden is very relatable to us all
#MayMadness For your consideration #BannedBooks
A tour around the house without digging too deep I found these.
⭐MUST READ⭐
I can't believe i declined reading this many times because i thought it would bore me! I'm so happy that i chose to read this novel finally after all this time.
It wasn't anything like i expected. I expected the main character to be an older man but it was infact a young teenager. I really felt i could relate the deeper meaning of this book.
I wish i had a limitless amount to write this review because this book deserves it!
⭐5 STARS⭐
Book: catcher in the rye
Song: i know places by taylor swift
Movie: the girl on the train
#manicmonday @joscho
I absolutely adore this book, it‘s one of my favorites so far. I highly enjoy Holden‘s pessimism and cynical outlook on many things.
What ties together John Lennon, Ronald Reagan, David Bowie, Jodie Foster & Jimmy Carter? Two stalkers, & murderers, who claimed to be following Salinger's message, but they were really obsessed with fame. Mark Chapman & John Hinckley Jr., Holden Caulfield thinks you're a phony.
