Ten days ago I started a binge listen of the entire Murderbot Series which was cathartic after being depressed from doomscrolling. Today I am starting a binge listen of the entire Murderbot Series because work is making me incandescent with rage. Hoopla is probably sitting there thinking, “Bitch, we just did this!“

✨Martha Wells fans I need opinions!✨

All Systems Red had one of the most relatable main characters that I‘ve ever read. His desire to procrastinate speaks to my soul. But that‘s where my excitement fell. It wasn‘t bad by any means but the world-building felt a little lacking and I didn‘t have any connection at all to the side characters. But that darn cliffhanger makes me want to continue on, so give me the pros and cons in the comments.

I love Murderbot! He just wants to watch his shows, okay?

Work has been slow this week, so I started my re-read of Murderbot Diaries on audio this time. The narrator is solid, but I think I got more enjoyment reading the physical books. I'll finish Artificial Condition, but then I think I'll switch back to paper. Built this Hubble telescope Metal Earth model while listening to the audio this evening.

Finished earlier this week. I had been hearing about this series for ages no & decided to finally give it a go as a quick listen. It was enjoyable although not as laugh out loud funny as I‘d been led to believe, I liked Murderbot & I‘ll read/listen to more. The first book was free through Audible & I put the next audiobook on hold through Library Libby (19 weeks wait! Probably due to the upcoming Apple TV series.)

Since I read The Stand fairly recently, I'm going to read the comic adaptation for @BarkingMadRead #losersclub this month. I'm also going to try to re-read the Murderbot Diaries, or at least the first four books, before the show starts.

At the risk of gorging myself, I'm going to re-read the first four Murderbot books before reading the following two for the first time, after which I will buy the latest one.

Also, I am well peeved that "Network Effect" is marginally larger in length and breadth than the other books. Who the fuck okayed that? ?‍♂️???

A fun and quick listen for sure, but I guess ultimately not really my thing because I haven't been itching to pick up more in the series.

This was picked by my library‘s book club and I‘m so glad it was, I would not of read it otherwise 🙂

After hearing about this series for years from friends, I‘m so glad to have finally read this first book! I liked the story, the novella format, and the characters that felt so quickly filled out.
Murderbot is funny & relatable, and I will definitely be reading more in this series.

This was an enjoyable, distracting, quick read. The writing isn't brilliant IMO but the events drive the book along nicely. I'm keen to read the others!

Well, that was fun. I loved book 1, have book 2 on hold, and am happy there are 6 more in the series to look forward to.

Not overwhelmingly technical and a completely relatable AI protagonist. Witty and thoughtful. The novella format keeps the narrative engaging.

Worth a try even if you don‘t think Sci-fi is your thing.

I'm giving this a go although I didn't see any of the others on the shelf. I don't really understand how this library branch groups their fantasy and scifi. Anyway, I've had a headache since Friday night, tomorrow is an incredibly welcome public holiday, my babies are going on a long holiday with their dad and on my bed under the fan is where I will be until further notice.

Starting my first Martha Wells. No expectations. I‘m not familiar with this author at all but here I go.

Martha Wells spoke to the freshman class at Trinity today. My daughter is a teaching assistant to the professors and she promised to take a photo for me.

Who doesn‘t love a story about a murderous robot with a conscious?

Murderbot is a SecUnit sent on intergalactic space missions with the humans who hire the spacecrafts. But unlike the other units, which must obey every command, Murderbot can think for itself. It just chooses to help so it will remain undetected.

In this shortish novel, the first in the series, we‘re introduced to Murderbot and it‘s thinking.

Great story, entertaining scifi.

This is a re-read for me. I wanted to revisit the series from the beginning. And so very glad I did! It is still a breath of fresh air and light and lively.

1. I read almost all of the Murderbot books in August, but I've tagged the first because it ignited the spark for me!

2. All of them! Paper because of the tactile experience, ebooks because I can read in the dark and pack "light" while still taking a shelfload of books, audiobooks because I can read while doing housework.

3. Probably mystery/thriller/horror these days.

My elder child has been recommending this series to me for ages, and I finally picked it up, and I really liked it! Murderbot is so honest and self-reflective, which sounds weird but makes total sense on the character. Now to procure the second in the series!

Well I finally know what everyone else is raving about. What a goddamn delight.

This is one of the best sci fis I've read in awhile. Absolutely love the direction so far

#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 Okay! Now I know what all the fuss is about. This was a very entertaining story. Most of this series is currently free on Audible (Yay for excellent free stuff.) This security droid calling itself Murderbot has attained free will. But rather than murdering anyone, it would much rather watch soap operas. I‘ll continue this series and I highly recommend that all science fiction fans start reading or listening.

Airport reading. We're traveling to London and then Edinburgh over the next couple of weeks, and we pack light so it's time for a reread of the Murderbot Diaries since I have them in ebook format. And they're great fun!

I just discovered this podcast today with an AI named Mikey and an astronaut named Len and I‘m hooked after one episode. It‘s called Ask Your Father by Gideon Media. #BookCast

When a security android slash synthetic slave goes rogue, it becomes a wild card in a sci-fi adventure. However, the best part of the book is the part of this android being very humane, shy, sarcastic and sacrifices himself to safe the humans who for the first time treat it decently.

The Murderbot series reread begins! Having bounced around in this series universe for a while, this first book definitely feels like just a taste of larger discussions about autonomy, enslavement, the nature of a self, corporate greed(lack of ethics), but it's honestly the perfect length introduction to Murderbot's POV. 1/?

The plot was intriguing but aside from Murderbot, everyone else had a paper-thin personality.

I've been waiting to post until I finished the series but I'm waiting for the final book from libby because I don't want to use an audible credit on a book I'll finish in a week lol. But these are so good if you like some light hearted and witty sci-fi. Definitely recommend.

I finally see what all the fuss is about and I‘m jazzed to read the rest of this saga!

A friend just told me about Audible Plus so I‘m binge listening to all The Murderbot Diary novellas available. I forgot how snarky and funny Murderbot is 🤖❤️🐉. A couple weekends ago The Stanley Cup was on display in the Inner Harbour so had to get a picture 🥅 🏒

I am not usually a Sci-Fi reader, but picked up this novella after seeing it recommended and I was really impressed. It was both smart and funny, plus a little bit sassy. Of course it also had some action and the inclusion of morality issues gave it some depth. Being Sci-Fi, it had a lot of technical stuff, but it never felt overwhelming or hard to follow. I have added the second in the series (Artificial Condition) to my TBR list. 4.5/5 stars.

Spent part of my day reading the first Murderbot Diary book. I‘ve seen lots of love for these books but had no idea what they were other than SciFi. Now that I‘m back at work, I‘m also back to commuting and listening to audiobooks. This is my current aural re-read. Loving remembering the origins of Murderbot.

I'm very behind on posting my reads so far this year. I'm already almost done with book 3 of the Murderbot Diaries. I listened to the first one several years ago before I had the means for something like audible. I'm very happy to be reading the rest. My new 40min commute is allowing to plow through media and im here for it

Just listened to this novella while playing some Mortal Kombat. I liked this, Murderbot is definitely A Mood. It poses the question ever present in the genre since I, Robot; when does artificial intelligence become intelligent life? But Murderbot might not be ready for peopling. It‘s really taking time away from their entertainment streaming time.

An actual description of my staycation this week:

“Mensah set up a watch schedule, including in time for me to go into standby and do a diagnostic recharge cycle. I was also planning to use the time to watch some Sanctuary Moon and recharge my ability to copy with humans at close quarters without losing my mind.”

Same, Murderbot. Same. 👯‍♀️
