Another laugh-out-loud romantic comedy filled with Renaissance Faire tavern wenches, kilted musicians, and an unlikely love story from the author of Well Met. Stacey is jolted when her friends Simon and Emily get engaged. She knew she was putting her life on hold when she stayed in Willow Creek to care for her sick mother, but it's been years now, and even though Stacey loves spending her summers pouring drinks and flirting with patrons at the local Renaissance Faire, she wants more out of life. Stacey vows to have her life figured out by the time her friends get hitched at Faire next summer. Maybe she'll even find The One. When Stacey imagined "The One," it never occurred to her that her summertime Faire fling, Dex MacLean, might fit the bill. While Dex is easy on the eyes onstage with his band The Dueling Kilts, Stacey has never felt an emotional connection with him. So when she receives a tender email from the typically monosyllabic hunk, she's not sure what to make of it. Faire returns to Willow Creek, and Stacey comes face-to-face with the man with whom shes exchanged hundreds of online messages over the past nine months. To Stacey's shock, it isn't Dexshe's been falling in love with a man she barely knows.

I didn‘t love this one quite as much as the first book, but it was really cute. I liked how it centered around a different character, but still kept the same people from the first book and followed more of their storyline, as well. Stacey and Daniel are a really cute relationship to read about and I‘m excited to see what happens in the next book!

I enjoyed the first book in this series, and it had been awhile since I read that - so I was glad to finally read this one! It‘s cute and charming and I liked it. It‘s sort of a Cyrano-mistaken identity story with a Ren Faire setting. #bookspinbingo #bingo2

Meh. Stacey is nearly the same character as Emily from the first book. And normally I love mistaken identity/Cyrano story. But this one just bored me. I kept waiting for something to happen, and nothing. I think other than a retweaked MC, Daniel wasn‘t fleshed out enough. I couldn‘t root for him because his backstory wasn‘t there.

Also, I just wanted to scream at her, instead of whining, if you want to change, the DO something, anything.

This was a fun second book in the trilogy. I liked Stacey in Well Met so I was happy to follow her this time around. Not a whole lot of smut, but it was cute to see Stacey and her love interest begin connecting via emails and texts. I admit there was a bit of a twist that I didn't pick up on, so that was fun, if a bit disappointing. There was less of the Ren Faire this time around simply because we got a lot of that exposition in book one.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Fun and light, this was a pick and now I'm ready to move onto book three to read about Mitch getting it on!

Zipped through Well Met, so I‘ve started Well Played. I‘m not sure if it‘s the characters or if I‘m used to the writing style or what? but this one feels a bit less ‘chonky‘ than the first one. But we all have self doubt when it comes to not knowing what someone else is thinking, especially someone we like

Open door romance. There wasn't nearly as much scene building since you get that in the first book but it was fun to imagine the same people in and out of Renaissance roles day to day. The great secondary theme of halting life to worry and parent your parents also present.

Cute but, like the first book in the series, wildly predictable. I‘m honestly not too critical when it comes to my romance novels, though. As long as the characters can fall in love & still be feminists, I‘m basically sold. The love interest in this one is a tall, vibrant redhead; the MC is a plus-sized blonde who belongs to TWO (count ‘em) book clubs; & there‘s a cat with dragon wings. So, reading it‘s a pleasant enough way to spend a few hours.

monalyisha I will say that, just based on the snippet of the next book shared at the end, this second one‘s probably going to be my least favorite of the three. Emily & Simon, from book 1, are English Lit nerds so they‘ll probably always be my favorite. And the featured couple in the next seems like they‘re going to have some heat & more “directness” than I‘m used to from DeLuca. I‘m hoping they may break the “formula” a bit. 🤞🏻 4y
monalyisha Honestly, I‘ve been vacillating between a “Pick” & a “So-So” since I posted this. I‘m not going to change my rating...but I very easily could. 4y
monalyisha Okay. I‘m changing it. So my initial review, which claims that I‘m “not too critical” might seem incongruous. 🙈 But after just reading another romance which DID hit all the right notes for me...the places in which this one fell short just seem all the more glaring. 4y

After finishing Well Met and having liked it so much, I was glad to find the audiobook for the next in the series immediately available on Libby. While I didn‘t like this one as much as the first, it was still cute and I finished it in two days. The relationship complications were not as realistic in this one, which is my main reason for not liking it as much.

I loved all the complications in this story and the message it ended with. I just want to say that if you find yourself feeling like Stacy in that people only want you around if you are peppy and happy all the time, than you need to tell them how you honestly feel. If they really only want the happy you then they shouldn‘t be in your life. You should be able to work sadness out with your friends.

This romance, the second in the series after Well Met, is set at the same small town Maryland Renn Faire, but follows Stacy, Emily‘s friend from the first book. Stacy sends a FB message to a musician she has slept with in the past, saying she might have feelings for her, and to her delight he responds. And then things take a turn for the Cyrano.

I gave this 4 ⭐️‘s on GoodReads. Second in a series, this follows a character introduced in the first book and still has appearances of the lead from the first. I love books like that (ex: Virgin River) and it felt more cohesive than the first as well. There was one moment where I thought the lead flip flopped a little too quickly, but otherwise enjoyed the twists and turns. Always fun to be back at the Faire!
Can‘t wait for book 3!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫I thought this book was much better than the first in the series - it seemed like the debut novel jitters were gone.
After a bit of a slow warm up, I found Stacey really relatable. And I am 100% a sucker for an email romance as that is how, 11 years ago, my relationship with my husband really began 😍😂 Love the side characters, the male lead, and, of course, the Ren Faire setting. Looking forward to book 3!

While I enjoyed Well Met, it wasn't really a stand-out read for me, so I went into the sequel with only moderate expectations. However, I ended up liking this one even better. One of my biggest issues with the first book was how much time we had to listen to Emily lusting after Simon (guess what, I don't like hearing women go on about wishing they could bang some dude because his butt looks good in leather pants any more than I like listening to⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) a dude go on about how hot a women's breasts are) BUT ANYWAY the point is that this book felt much better with that and just overall pacing. Well Met was a debut & Well Played feels like the author learned from her first book & is growing as an author, so that's fun. I really liked the MC here & while some of the angst went on a little too long, it was overall a fun & fluffy read. If you liked Well Met, or even if you felt ambivalent ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) towards it, Well Played is probably worth the read. It's fun, fluffy, & easy to read. 4y

I‘m devouring this book! I want to read it slowly to savor it, but I just can‘t. So I‘ll tear through it this first time, and then in the not-very-distant future I‘ll come back for a more leisurely read.

Which, come to think of it, is exactly how I read the first one. Only I had to buy it for the second read, and I got smart and bought the second one ahead of time.
