Darkfever: Fever Series | Karen Marie Moning
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Karen Marie Moning'sBloodfever. MacKayla Lanes life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, shes your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinksuntil something extraordinary happens. When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her deatha cryptic message on Macs cell phoneMac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sisters killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possesseda gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae. As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sisters death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlanean alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human womencloses in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Macs true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Bookbecause whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands.

Panpan

#bookspin done and I thought this was DREADFUL. I don‘t mind trashy, paranormal fantasy/thriller every once in a while but the main character was vapid, the prose was repetitive, and it really grated on me. I disliked how every other paragraph was about how pretty the MC was & she ‘couldn‘t do anything about it‘. I won‘t be continuing the series, so at least it‘s done now!

dabbe #fanofthepan! 🤩🤩🤩 8mo

There haven‘t been too many books this year that have sucked me in and taken me for a ride, and I miss that feeling of not being able to turn the pages fast enough. 🥹🙃 Borrowed this from the library Friday, and before our trip to visit the family in NJ on Saturday (and during) finished it, cover to cover. Paranormal & Fae is just my ☕️. Onto number 2, ASAP! #recentlyread #paranormal #nospoilers #fastpaced

annahenke I‘ve always wondered about these books! 2y
aa_guer2021 @annahenke think someone exactly not the typical crime fighter suddenly seeks revenge and finds out there is more to her life than she has ever known, and also more to the world (in the paranormal sense) than she ever thought possible. If you like that kind of thing, it really sucks you in. 2y
annahenke @aa_guer2021 color me intrigued! 2y

I first read this series in 2012 and I forgot how much of a slow burn it is, and how much I adore it! Easily, one of the best Urban Fantasy series I‘ve read. And it only gets better with each book. Mac‘s voice is quirky and easy to follow; the plot intriguing enough to keep you turning the pages! #reread #urbanfantasy #feverseries

"Don't accuse me of being morbid when I'm merely the product of a culture that buries the bones of the ones they love in pretty, manicured flower gardens so they can keep them nearby and go talk to them whenever they feel troubled or depressed. That's morbid." One of us is much more excited about the outcome of this monster murder mystery than the other. Yay for lazy Saturdays following late Fridays!

I love books, by the way, way more than movies. Movies tell you what to think. A good book lets you choose a few thoughts for yourself. Movies show you the pink house. A good book tells you there‘s a pink house and lets you paint some of the finishing touches, maybe choose the roof style, park your own car out front. My imagination has always topped anything a movie could come up with.

This book kind of felt like an early episode of Supernatural - especially with the big bad not having much of a resolution. Obviously this is the first in a long series... but I wasn‘t super impressed. I don‘t love second person addresses to the reader, and there were a lot of “you‘ll see later” moments. How about, show me now? 🤪 But I have the second book and do want to see if it gets better, so I‘ll keep reading for now! | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed Mac and how she was trying to find her sisters murderer. I loved the connections she made with a few other characters to help her out. I do wish there was actual romance and more to the world to find out about. But, I really enjoyed this book.

25% in, not sure about this. I don‘t often read urban fantasy, & this one is pretty dated. Mentions of iPods and Internet cafes are a bit much for me😂 This book is making me realize that I must avoid this issue bc I prefer high fantasy or just older books without much tech. I‘m also not loving the verb tense? The character is telling the story from a year later, but some sentences are just weird. Along with all the cheese and pink nail polish.

I am on a never-ending quest to find series with great world building, preferably with Fae and magic of some kind. Just saw this on TikTok and it was available on Libby! And if anyone has other stand-alone or series recs, please let me know!!

Seekingtardis She also writes The Highlander series and there are a few people that tie in to this series. Not important to read them first but if you read after you‘re like oh! I know them! Both series are very good 😍 Happy Reading!! 4y

THIS is exactly what I need for the New Year!

I got a few series completed this year...and by completed I mean I completed buying the series and still haven't read them 🤦‍♀️ so my goal for 2021 is to actually READ these books. Rereading will happen but I'm hoping to complete at least one series per month for the year. It shouldn't be that hard....right? 😂

Tagged is a series I am well overdue to finish!

And, I want to know more about Jericho Barrons. I can tell this is a series that will pull me in with each book. I‘m starting book 2 today and ordered the next 5.

Found this in my room when I went home for Christmas. A very similar tone and style to the Sookie Stackhouse novels, except the southern belle has made her way to a not- quite believable Dublin. There are major flaws in this book, but I enjoyed relaxing and reading this book over the holiday. I will probably continue reading the series, as they all seem to be equally light and fast.

Not sure what to say! It was good, it just wasn't really good. It was kind of like a bubble gum version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was fun, but kind of rubbed me the wrong way at times.
The main character-Mac-is a 22 yr old female who has a lot of superficial silly worries. The male main character- Barrons-is borderline abusive at times. I liked the idea of the storyline and the world in this book, but won't read the next book in the series.

Quite a few years back, I burned through a lot of paranormal romance (I‘m looking at you, Sookie Stackhouse and Anita Blake), and I sometimes think I may have burnt myself out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I expected to love this book, but the MC and the narrative style were annoying, and there was a lot of set up with no payoff. I‘m sure I could continue the series for that, but I won‘t.

Also, with this cover I was expecting some sex scenes that never happened. 🤣

JSW Yeah, this series didn‘t do it for me, either although I know a lot of readers who love it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
SquiBella I absolutely hated Mac in this book, and I wasn‘t a huge fan of the writing initially. For some reason, though, I kept going, and books 2-5 surprised me. They turned this one of my favorite series. I‘m so mad at book 1 for almost making me walk away. It‘s the weakest of all of them. 6y
sprainedbrain @SquiBella welll... maybe I should keep going then? Aren‘t there a ton of books now? 6y
See All 7 Comments
SquiBella The first 1-5 are the original series. I would end it there. I read them all in one week. Everything else after that is an unnecessary extension. I mean, I would encourage you to give it one more try, but it‘s up to you. 6y
sprainedbrain @SquiBella well that‘s actually much less intimidating. I thought I might be committing myself to 11 if they kept ending in cliffhangers. 😂 6y
VeganCleopatra I think I burnt myself out too! I didn't really like this one but I loved other ones in the series, in case you're thinking of reading more. Mac really grows as a character IMO and is far less annoying. 6y

My first #24B4monday readathon! here's my stack for the weekend! I have tried to read all of these at some point but wasn't pulled in -- however, I feel like I gave up too early!

I really enjoyed the first in this series. Quite a bit more than I thought I would. Reminiscent of Charlaine Harris's writing but better and a smidge more serious. I'm not sure who to root for at this point, except for Mac, who is brave, self-assured, and witty. I love books based in Ireland or Celtic origins and this was no exception. I'll definitely be reading the next!
