The Ghost Tree
The Ghost Tree | Christina Henry
When people go missing in the sleepy town of Smith's Hollow, the only clue to their fate comes when a teenager starts having terrifying visions, in a chilling horror novel from national bestselling author Christina Henry. When the bodies of two girls are found torn apart in the town of Smiths Hollow, Lauren is surprised, but she also expects that the police won't find the killer. After all, the year before her father's body was found with his heart missing, and since then everyone has moved on. Even her best friend, Miranda, has become more interested in boys than in spending time at the old ghost tree, the way they used to when they were kids. So when Lauren has a vision of a monster dragging the remains of the girls through the woods, she knows she can't just do nothing. Not like the rest of her town. But as she draws closer to answers, she realizes that the foundation of her seemingly normal town might be rotten at the center. And that if nobody else stands for the missing, she will.

I loved how this started and the way it progressed. It really built up a lot of suspense throughout the book, but there was a lot that just seemed like it didn‘t flow together and it didn‘t work for the story. I just wanted more development of the story. Overall, it was creepy and interesting, but I didn‘t love the story.

The 80s setting feels like a cross between Stranger Things and Supernatural. The writing is fair, but the story drags. It‘s a book that is fine while you‘re reading, but hard to pick back up once you set it down and I considered bailing several times. The biggest issue for me is the relationship drama between 14 year old Lauren and her mother. I have no patience for teen angst. The book is atmospheric and a bit creepy, but I hoped for more.

Book 122📚 3.3⭐️

Honestly, until Act 4, I almost bailed numerous times. I couldn‘t get into it, there is a lot of jumping around with the characters.

But that last half, I could have done with that being the whole story 😂 It made the 400+ pages finally worth it LOL

These both came in at the same time (synchronicity) but I‘m having a hard time getting into The Ghost Tree and am debating jumping ship over to The Ghost Woods.

Any reason I shouldn‘t DNF?!☹️ I want to like it! But there‘s a whole lotta fluff I feel…

I don‘t go in for gruesome, yet I stuck with The Ghost Tree by Christina Henry from start to finish. Maybe it‘s because the story moves, not sticking, not stuttering. Action and well developed characters. Equal parts horror, coming of age, and mystery, I greatly appreciated the book - a fast and fun read!

Loved this! Set in the 80s. Witches, small town, with some stranger thing vibes. So good!! And the last sentence left it for a possible sequel!

Bk20 of August & Bk9 of #LittensDressedInBlood is done! It‘s also my last #BookspinBingo book for August & happens to be my #Bookspin book from March & gave me two #bingos on this months board. Not bad from one book. It was a good horror read, not as good as her Alice series or anywhere near her last book, Near The Bone, but still very creepy. She does love her monsters! #Pageathon #PennyPerPage #ChunksterChallenge

TheAromaofBooks I really appreciate your illustration on your bingo board! 😂 3y
Lizpixie @TheAromaofBooks it‘s a pretty accurate drawing of what August was! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Hopefully things improve soon... I'm not sure I could live under the stringent regulations you are having there!!! 3y
Lizpixie @TheAromaofBooks I do understand why we have them, even with the outbreak we‘re going through, deaths and hospitalisations are low. It‘s more the family side of things that‘s the hardest, my mum & my grandbaby being the worst. But once we‘re all vaccinated things will look a lot better than they do now, my 1st shot is in October. 3y

This was a fun and interesting story, I loved the multiple characters that all.played a role in the overall story. The Audiobook was well done, really loved the narrator. Loved how the story had aspects of family history, witches and a legend that played into the overarching plot line. Well done.

This isn't really a retelling but it almost feels like it could be...there's even a princess...but you know, she dies (not really a spoiler)...that's pretty much what this author does turns the fairytales on their ass, so to speak. If you've read and liked any of Christina Henry's other books...then you probably will like this one.
