What a fun twist on Greek mythology! The story is not light (there are definitely adult themes including SA) but the way the author deals with the subject matter feels organic. I love the art and especially the color work. Also, Zeus answers the phone with βAhoy hoy.β It‘s so dumb. I love it. #pop23 #bookwithalovetriangle

2/2 And this is the rest of January! #MonthInReview #January Reads
My Stats:
39 books Read
7 phyical/ebooks
32 audiobooks
4 DNFs
1/2 Part one of my #MonthInReview for #JanuaryReads. I got a lot of reading done, and as you can see, I wasn't afraid to DNF when books weren't working for me. I was very excited to read Susanna Hoff's first novel (it comes out in April I think), because I am a huge Bangles fan. I also read a lot of romance and holiday stories- but that's what popped up in my audiobook library holds. TBC...
My final read of January is in the books! (Pun intended.)
This is a gorgeous graphic novel, made from a webcomic of the same name. The art is both bright and dark, playing off itself in interesting ways, and the story is compelling. I love Greek mythology and found myself asking βwait, is that REALLY what happened?!?β β as if any of it REALLY happened. π
I desperately need a day to stay in my pajamas, drink some comforting warm beverages, and read! My goal is to make Sunday that day...so consider this an accountability post. π
I picked up the tagged book at the library today. I'm looking forward to sinking into it, as well as finishing up my current non-fiction read, tagged below.
Everyone tells me I should read this, because I love Persephone and retellings of the Hades/Persephone story. I tried to read it online and struggled, but thought it was the format, so figured I‘d try again when it came out in print. I still don‘t like it at all! I think the art style is ill-suited for the medium and I don‘t like the characters or how they are modernized from the myths. Just not for me.
Set up my #Pantone2023 challenge on PicMoney. So far I got #PinkCosmos for the tagged book. @Clwojick
So, I just loved this comic series so far. I have the next one ordered, and I am waiting for it to be ready to send. But I love the artwork, and its a cute story. I see where people are upset with the βgods behaving badly,β trope but I am a bit removed from it as I haven't read a lot or mytholody stuff recently.

Not sure how I feel about this book... Not a book crush, not impressed. I guess I'm on the fence. I'll read the rest of the series to see how I stand.
Having a blue and pink graphic novel moment! Paper Girls is trippy in a way I want to keep reading; Lore Olympus plays into my long term love of less sketchy Hades/Persephone retellings but be aware there is an author-provided warning in the front of the book for content. Paper Girls has some period typical (though thankfully challenged on page) homophobia. Both stories touch on challenging misogyny/girls/women standing up for other females.
I‘m not totally sold on the story, but I love Persephone and Hades. I like the art and coloring, but I hate Apollo. So. Much. I‘m also saturated with βgods behaving badlyβ, but that isn‘t the fault of the author/this book. I clearly need a break from mythology retellings. But after I find out if Apollo gets his comeuppance in a future volume.
@IndoorDame any of these look good. I do have more. And I do have vol 1 of Mickey it‘s just not on that shelf.
I enjoyed my reread of this before jumping into Vol 2. The coloring really brings this story to life and does a great job of marrying the old vision of Olympus with the modern day.
This was so beautifully drawn. Seriously loved it. I like mythology, so any take on that can be pretty interesting, so this did not disappoint. I had initially picked it up because the bookseller saw I was eying it and told me .. girl get it! Ha. She was right! Thank you --- whoever you were.

This was recommended to me by a fellow Litsy reader and so I picked it up the other day. This story was so cute and the artwork is so fun! Love this take on the Hades/Persephone story!
I love a good theme read weekend! Sometimes you just need to escape into a graphic novel read!
This was an utter delight! Beautifully illustrated. 5β
Reading and relaxing with my favorite baby today! πΆπΎ #dogsoflitsy #randrsunday
This collection of episodes 1-25 from Smythe's web comic tells the story of Persephone and Hades in a thoroughly modern setting, with gorgeous artwork.

Loved this!! So glad I added it in to end Dewey‘s for me and can‘t wait for volume 2!!
Moving on to book 3 of Dewey‘sβ¦. I‘ve had this one sitting on my shelf for a while, too.
I bought volume 2 the other day, so I'm rereading all the print issues before switching over to the app to get caught up on the current issues. It was just as good upon rereading! Buster says he's better than any Underworld dogs... he's probably right. #dogsoflitsy
Read a bit more of LORE OLYMPUS last night while I waited for my eggplant to cool off enough to eat. I really like it so far, but I‘m not at that INTENSE LOVE OMG stage I‘ve seen from so many people. Gonna try to finish it today.
This definitely jolted me out of my mini slump! I love that there are so many different ways to experience Greek (and others) mythology now - my 16 year old self (obsessing over Edith Hamilton‘s Mythology) would never have expected or anticipated this! *scampers off to find volume 2*
Finally photographed this after finishing it ages ago. Wow. SO good. After finishing this I jumped on WEBTOON and binged the entire rest of the series which I highly recommend. Trigger warnings for themes of sexual assault, rape, toxic relationships etc but in terms of that content, I think this is one of the best portrayals of the emotions behind it and the aftermath a person suffers. So well done. βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
I saw this on my library‘s new books shelf and immediately picked it up after seeing so much love for it on Litsy previously. All the hype is well deserved! πππππ
I loved the modernization of the characters & the way the author brought them to life. The art style is beautiful and I love the way each character is drawn in a specific color to fit their personality. Beautifully done, fascinating story and I cannot wait to read future volumes.
Super cute and I want more!
I really wish we had more Persephone and Hades actionβ€
This book is absolutely beautiful, stunning, gorgeous. I came for the art and stayed for the story. I love anything to do with gods. This story of pining between Hades and Persephone was right up my alley. It does semi-assume that you have a bit of a background in this mythology, but it does provide some tidbits to keep you going to enjoy it. It does lose one star for being a little disjointed. But I‘m excited for volume 2 nonetheless.

So far Lore Olympus is still coming out on top for me. Tho to be fair I‘ve only read 4 books in the last 2 months.

It finally feels like spring! Sunshine reading time π
I thought I'd like this more than I did, but it's still a fun read. I'm loving seeing the Greek gods and goddesses interact in a modern-ish setting, and it's been fun seeing retellings of some of the legends. I'm not a fan of how dark many of the panels are, which really makes it hard to see what's going on. I have a few other complaints, but overall wouldn't say I disliked reading this. It wasn't a pick, but wasn't so-so. #comic #GreekMythology
I have mixed feelings right now about this book for so many reasons, but look at this pommy!! (what exactly is an un-airy silence though?) #Pomeranian #comic
All my library holds came in today except the bottom book which I am currently reading.
Which book should I read next? Have you read any of these books?

So far Lore Olympus is coming out on top. Honestly it‘s a high bar that‘s set since I‘m obsessed with the WEBTOON series, so it stands a good chance of being my fave. Plus volume 2 comes out this year π
@chasjjlee has the blank version of this bracket on her page. Thanks for this awesome idea π€π€π€
I absolutely LOVED this, and I'm downloading the WebToon app right now so I don't have to wait for Volume 2 to come out!!
Beautiful illustrations. I've realized since reading Circe, Song of Achilles, and now this book that my knowledge about Greek mythology is seriously lacking.
This was a gift from my mother in law. I love this webtoons comic and to have part of it in book form is amazing. Beautiful artwork and I‘m obsessed with Persephone.

I went a little crazy with the Target book sale! In my defense, I've been a faithful library user for years!
I am in love with this graphic novel! I have always loved the story about Hades and Persephone and this is a modern retelling of it. Beautiful artwork! Definitely a wild ride of a romance story with lots of humor mixed in! This was originally a web comic and it is still available online for free.
