Bookwormjillk I loved this one as a teen. I used to sit with my friend Amy trying to set things on fire with our minds for hours. It was the super power I most wanted to have when I was about 13. I still liked it on this re-read, but I thought the middle dragged a bit. Not a bad ending for King.

Also I think the first season of Stranger Things owes this book a lot!

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk yes, I found it a similar premise to ST. I loved the story and characters. I found it quite gripping in places. 5d

5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk yes! I thought it ended solidly, which he sometimes just doesn‘t do lol Agree about Stranger Things too. 5d
5feet.of.fury It‘s kind of smack between Carrie and The Institute both plotwise and character/scifi focussed. This was my first read of it, I just think it‘s neat 5d
ElizaMarie Wasn't able to re-read this one - I really need to organize my reading room - I know I had a copy of it somewhere! Anyway, I remember loving this one when I first read it, and as a fellow #KingGirlie I did the same @BookwormJillK 5d
bekakins Totally agree with the comments ref ST. This is one of my absolute favourites. 5d
kwmg40 Still waiting for a library loan, but I will get to this one eventually! 4d
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury I found I liked this more than Carrie. I don't remember The Institute enough to compare. But, yes, it was just really neat. As much as I love when he takes the time to build a town and it's inhabitants, with this and The Shining, I'm liking his more narrowly focused stories. 2d
5feet.of.fury @TieDyeDude the Institute was pretty much Stranger Things and you got the backstory on the whole town 😂 2d
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude 💯 they both have their pros and cons. This is one of my faves for sure 2d

Bookwormjillk I‘m still working on The Dark Half which I read accidentally last month. Then I have the new one and this which both came in from the library at the same time. It‘s going to be a King filled month. Not complaining because to me Stephen King=Summer reading. 1mo
bekakins This is one of my absolute faves! I used to have a hardback omnibus of The Eyes of the Dragon & Firestarter and it was proper comfort reading for me whenever I was off sick from school 1mo

Pickpick

A relatively simple novel from King, I really enjoyed it. It was tense and you really root for the main characters.

DGRachel I‘ve seen several review lately, so first off - thanks for tagging me in those! I personally loved this one, but I‘ve seen a few so-so reviews. So tell me - if you loved it or didn‘t and what worked for you or didn‘t work for you? I find King hit or miss, and this was a big hit for me. I didn‘t think it was over-written (side eye to you, The Stand) and I loved the characters. 7y
Karkar I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was interesting how the daughters story unfolded 7y
JulAnna I grew up with SK books, but somehow this was one that I missed. Maybe the premise didn‘t appeal to me back then? Anyway, I enjoyed this very much, it didn‘t go the way I expected based on the synopsis. I am very glad I read it! 7y
Eggbeater Normally I love SK but this one just seemed badly researched when compared to the other ones. The little girl's voice was too old and thorazine is not addictive. It didn't hold a candle to The Shining. 7y
DGRachel @Eggbeater I do agree that Charlie didn‘t sound like a child, but I wonder if that is part of being forced to grow up hiding or on the run. It‘s always interesting to me to see how others react to books, because I loved this one but found The Shining to be underwhelming. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7y
