Listened to the audio of this book for IRL bookclub. I appreciate the rowing club wasn‘t all about the sport, promising HS students rainbows of gold coins & fame, instead it was a scaffolding of varying supports to be successful in their chosen walks of life.

Going to watch the documentary. 👍🏾

AnnR This was a horribly disturbing chapter, first with the birds, then with the attitude of the “adults.“ I actually cheered then Agnes got fired; not that she deserved it in any way, shape or form. My thought was she was too responsible to quit & it was good she got out of that situation before something really horrible happened. No governess could help those kids, between the lack of discipline & constant interference of the parents. #firetheparents 2y

dabbe Agree with everyone! I'm afraid we're going to meet these horrible children as adults in some way. Such abominable people all around! Things have to get better for Agnes, don't they? Don't they? 🙏 2y

julieclair I feel so sorry for Agnes. But also for those horrible kids… they are being allowed to grow up into horrible adults. I do fear we have not seen the last of them. 2y

I really ended up enjoying this one. The main character Hal learns the secrets behind the family she never knew she had. I like that it wasn't obvious to me what the mystery was. The author did a good job throwing in a few misdirections i think. For some reason I kept forgetting that it wasn't set in historical times until they would mention cellphones or online searches. If you're looking for a good mystery without being too creepy check it out.

The lives of two corporate wives and a single mother rejoining the workplace are irreversibly changed after the Fossil Oils corporate Christmas do. This wasn‘t anything like I was expecting, and I found it disappointing. Not really one likeable character in the book, including the MC, who came up with this wonderful example of girl power #Not.

Listened to this audiobook to knock it off my #readharderchallenge Loved it, of course. Large chunks of it were gripping and kept me on the edge of my proverbial seat.
#Not sure how I felt about the narrator. He was definitely really into it, but maybe sometimes a little too into it? He had some intentional stutters, which was effective at some points, but a bit over the top at others. Overall, I‘d definitely recommend it.
