I haven't read Palahniuk in awhile, but many of his characters were undoubtedly #marginal I recall Survivor was a favorite. Narrator Tender Branson (that name!) recalls his life from an airplane cockpit & how he became involved with a cult-the Creedish Church. One of the last surviving members of the cult we learn about his strange life, including a lot of housecleaning tips. When I saw Palahniuk read in KC on the tour for Haunted 👇

A true insight into the lives of those who dwell in their own thoughts. To feel so much and experience nothing.

Called off work and spent my Chinese New Year weekend doing some local traveling. Chuck Palahniuk is one of my favorite audiobook staples and I eagerly downloaded this one for the drive. Survivor is probably now one of the top 2 of his books for me, alongside Haunted. Enjoyed this read.

I stayed up way too late to finish this one. No regrets. A wild ride for sure. And dark. I found the writing style interesting. And I may steal his gardening shortcut this spring. 😁

Today's book haul. I'm only sad that the book "Dead Sky" was the UK version (with different title) of a book I already own. Damn these different titled books! Oh well... It was a $2 purchase.

Loved it. Very true to Palahniuk‘s style and such a biting story. There are strong characters with a bit of a creepy past and a strange way of coming together and then a mysterious lead up to the end. Very good writing as usual.

Regardless of how the story is told, I wish all books counted down the page numbers instead of starting at 1.

Next book. It‘s been a while since I‘ve read anything by Palahniuk. My favorite book of his is a nonfiction book—Stranger than Fiction.

Sci fi, fantasy, afrofuturism, Batman, gothic, horror, noir; this would be such an epic nerd-out session!

2. I would say Chuck Palahniuk really pulled me out of my comfort zone and got me to seek out books that challenged me. He was one of the first authors whose new release I couldn't wait to get ahold of

I loved this dark comedy about a suicide cult survivor turned Mickey Mouse messiah. It's a grim satire of consumer culture and religion. Don't get frustrated with the beginning. It gets weird and wonderful. Although the protagonist could be frustratingly passive, this commentary on the cult of celebrity has aged well. It's still relevant, twisted, and funny 20 years later. Damn good social commentary.

If you like bizarre and crazy, this novel is for you. While Survivor isn‘t a fast-paced novel in the beginning, it morphs into a wild ride and spirals out of control in the end. I enjoyed it. Overall rating: 4.46 stars.

First book I read from Chuck Palahniuk. Haven't stop reading his books since.

Celebrity is such an easy target for satire that it can be more difficult to pull off without being too obvious. Palahniuk is up to the task though as he weaves the twisted tale of Tender Branson, former cult member turned celebrity, who provides his story to the flight recorder of a crashing airplane. #fame #septembowie @Marchpane @Cinfhen

An oldie but a goodie. Makes me laugh as much as the first time I read it. I'm in love with the style and flow. Won't be the last time I read this one.

Palahniuk's second novel is narrated in a deadpan tone by the survivor of a religious cult. The narrator is an unsympathetic character, however he is more fleshed out than the narrator of "Pygmy." Palahniuk targets exoticism of the outsider by the media and pop culture. Published in 1999, "Survivor" seems to foresee the rise of reality TV as a vicarious experience of what mainstream America views as the innocent, spiritual & meaningful "other. "

Not every emotional reaction art generates is a pleasant one. Sometimes it makes you faintly sick, and questioning your choices. That's how I feel about Palahniuk. Still, Survivor is my "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" pick for #photoadaynov16

Meh. Thats how this book felt. It literally feels like a prequel to Fight Club. And i've never read fight club, only watched the movie. Which is a testament to how strong Palahnuk's voice and writing style is, really.

But this book felt long, and slow, and like I'd basically already seen it in Fight Club, though the details were slightly different. Or like this was just one long, drawn out backstory.
