pickSome of these works of art are really beautiful. It was a fun idea to compile these images from various time periods on the same topic into a book. The diversity of the subject was limited to age. It would have been more interesting if the author had included more current artwork with subjects of women of color and women of different religions besides Christianity.

pickI enjoyed reading this book and discovering beautiful paintings and photographs of women reading.
However, I would have liked more context about the art. Also more about the evolution of reading for women. It would also have been interesting to have more contemporary works, with thus more female artists.

pickIt‘s a delightful book, full of little blurbs to help you catch all the nuances of the paintings. I loved it.
My boyfriend and I did some rearanging this weekend. It was a lot of work, but I'm really proud of the result. It kind of feels like I have my own little bookshop at home 😊

Two reading gifts that I received last night. A book of postcards and a small calendar. Truth be told, it was easy to find a perfect gift for me because I listed them on my Amazon Wish List, made public for just that reason! 😉
pickThe beginning of this book talks about attitudes towards women reading through the centuries. When not an act of piety, it was often portrayed as corrupting or frivolous. What were those women doing alone and what were they thinking?! If you want to know one of the fears people had, Google Pierre-Antoine Baudouin's painting The Reader. The rest of the book features artwork and on the opposing page a description and an analysis of it. #boutofbooks
I just picked this up at the library. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up buying a copy.
I bought this on a whim during Prime Day because I love the title and the painting used for the cover. Received it today and positively LOVE the inside also. I can't wait to start enjoying the art and ideas inside.

I love hanging out at Chaucer's Bookstore in Santa Barbara. Being surrounded by all these beautiful books from floor to ceiling puts a silly grin on my face every time.
