A Series of Unfortunate Events #1: The Bad Beginning
A Series of Unfortunate Events #1: The Bad Beginning | Lemony Snicket
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent children. They are charming, and resourceful, and have pleasant facial features. Unfortunately, they are exceptionally unlucky. In the first two books alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, a lumpy bed, a deadly serpent, a large brass reading lamp, a long knife, and a terrible odour. In the tradition of great storytellers, from Dickens to Dahl, comes an exquisitely dark comedy that is both literary and irreverent, hilarious and deftly crafted. Never before has a tale of three likeable and unfortunate children been quite so enchanting, or quite so uproariously unhappy. Ages 10+

I‘m reading this series as a buddy read with @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick. It reads a lot grimmer than when I first read it. It‘s still a fun, fast read, though. I foolishly forgot to add it to my BookSpin Bingo list.

These books take up quite a bit of space. I'm aiming to read the entire 13-book series this year. (Unless I hate them and just give them all away at once.) My neighbor's daughter is 9 or 10 years old & a little dark. My thought is to see if she's interested in reading them after me so I have a plan of release, and maybe she'll keep me motivated.

Should anyone want to join me, I'll use #AnUnfortunateReadalong to share my thoughts.

Well, gosh. I mean they warn you at the start that this will be bad but it is REALLY BAD. 😆 the name should have given it away. Continuing trying to read a bunch of middle grade with this series which was fabulous on audio but I don‘t think I‘ll recommend to my kids for fear it‘ll traumatize them 🤣 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This was my favorite series in middle school and I'm delighted to be doing my first reread. I've chosen the audio because Tim Curry 😍 This was just as great as I remembered. I love the over-the-top writing style and the author's asides about word choice and attempts to convince the reader to stop reading.
My plan after book 2 is to read one book per month until the end of the year #SeriesLove2023 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

This book follows the 3 Baudelaire siblings- Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. Their life has many unpleasant events after their parents suddenly perished in a home-fire. Count Olaf is an evil man and will do anything to get his hands on the Baudelaire fortune. I love this book for children! Great plot, characters, and use of vocabulary!

I loved doing this #seriesreadathon back in the beginning of the year. Looking for some suggestions for mores series that I can knockout in a weekend. Childhood rereads, ya, adults, etc. I‘m good with any and all suggestions.

Some that I‘m considering:

Percy Jackson (still only read the first one)
Small Spaces (only read the first)
Wayward Children (read and adored all of them)
Pretty Little Liars (not sure how many I‘ve read)

Clwojick Stalking Jack the Ripper ( haven‘t read any of them) 3y
Clwojick Confessions of Georgia Nicholson (classics from childhood) 3y
Scochrane26 I love Percy Jackson as well as the 2nd series with him—Heroes of Olympus. Both series are great on audio. 3y

This RF, AS Colorado Children‘s Book award winning novel is an unconventional story that will draw in your students. The theme of this story is that perseverance is possible even in the face of adversity. The Baudelaire siblings become orphaned at a young age and are sent to live with a man who tries to steal their inheritance. The story follows the unfortunate events that happen to them while they fight against Count Olaf. #UCFLAE3414SP21

This source from Reading Rockets includes great information about Lemony Snicket that can be used in an AS. The UDL principle 1.1 discusses how to customize the display of information, which will increase students engagement in the AS. The EL strategy 13 about previewing information for activities will ensure students are knowledgeable about the author.

Fiction: *Focus on Author* - Why do you think the author began or ended the story the way he did?

In this book it started off very depressing because of the fact that the Baudelaire children had lost their parents and their house in a fire.

I think it started off like this because it need a interesting turn of events because the Baudelaire children at the beginning had just gone to a beach

Fiction: It doesn't really say what year this was taken in but it does talk about the setting alot, for right now the first few setting are when the Baudelaire children went to the beach. The beach was empty because they only liked going to the beach on cloudy days because nobody would be there, and the second place was when they got home, they live in mansion but the thing is that it was burned down and with their parents.

Well sinces I'm only on chapter one the characters only affect each other because they are siblings. There names are Violet the oldest, Klaus the middle child, and Sunny the youngest, in the first chapter they only affect each other because all three are doing a test with something Violet had invented, but it was more like Klaus and Violet who tested it because Sunny is still a toddler.

But when I saw the movie and learned that there is a series of books behind them, my interest was piqued. Apparently the books are not very well known in Germany, they're not books you grow up with.
