Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice | Austen
Beloved by millions the world over, Pride and Prejudice is delightfully transformed in this bold new manga adaptation. In a remote English village, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, a not-so-well-to do country squire and his wife, must marry off their five vivacious daughters. At the very center of this all-consuming enterprise are the headstrong second daughter, Elizabeth and her aristocratic suitor Mister Darcy, two lovers in whom pride and prejudice must be overcome before love can bring the story to its magnificent conclusion. All of the joy, heartache, and romance of Jane Austen's original, Pride & Prejudice is perfectly illuminated by the sumptuous art of manga-ka Po Tse, and faithfully adapted by Stacy E. King.

Re-read for #authoramonth. Still love it. Read with my homeschooled high schooler so it took a while since we have to stop to analyze.

It just doesn't get old. It never stops being timeless and iconic. Emma is perhaps sharper, Persuasion more mature, S&S more deeply personal to me...but P&P is the gold standard, the objective best, sparkling, vibrant, emotional, surprising. I just finished it and I already want to read it 50 more times. #PemberLittens

dabbe It's the go-to romantic novel for me, too. ❤️💜🩷 1mo

Darcy, as well as Elizabeth, really loved them; and they were both ever sensible of the warmest gratitude towards the persons who, by bringing her into Derbyshire, had been the means of uniting them.

I know I should love this book. It‘s a classic. But to be honest it really didn‘t hold my attention. I read it for book club at the library or I would have DNF‘d it. I think it was the writing style. Maybe. 🤷🏼‍♀️

#Pemberlittens I love when I reach this point in the story! Last line of Volume 2, Chapter 19. And then you turn the page to Volume 3, Chapter 1 and to my favorite part of the book.

Reading a copy that has kept the original 3 Volumes and Chapter numbers instead of modernizing to straightforward 61 Chapters really highlights the 3 different parts.

💙💙💙💙💙

Crinoline_Laphroaig I once guessed that I've read P and P every other summer since I first discovered. Which is probably a low estimate. But with that Goodreads tells me this is my 18th read. 8mo

The journey I had through this book was perfectly agreeable and the most fascinating one. I had gone through every emotion through this book. The anticipation, the anger, the blushing. I love this book and don't ask me how much I am controlling myself to not re-read and move on to next book.
This book written in 1800s is still relevant in today's time. There is still a thinking of class, birth and money above all.
(Continued in the comment)

hya I have felt every emotion which Elizabeth felt throughout the course of the story. The growth of characters, the circumstances, the reasons behind them and ohh the letters (Istg I was dreading the letters as I was proceeding with the story for they bought the most unexpected turns).
The satire, the emotions, the setting, the plot, I just can't put into words what I don't love abou P&P. It will be a forever favourite.

Thanks for the tag @dabbe ! I know I‘m a day late, but even though the first thing that actually came to mind for #Redemption was Bob Marley, I‘m going with P&P because I think it‘s fascinating that our view of the characters gets redeemed even more dramatically than they actually change over the course of the novel.

This is my first completed Jane Austen, and I loved it. Lizzie is great fun to read. Darcy‘s rapid change seemed a bit unbelievable to me, but that did not detract from enjoying it. And it may have been more gradual, except that we did not see him while he was going through it, just the results from Lizzie‘s POV.
Before I had tried reading Emma and dnf as I couldn‘t stand her. What Jane Austen would be good to try next since I loved this one?

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. I already mentioned this in the review I wrote yesterday, but definitely the humor.
2. Wickham dies at the Battle of New Orleans. Lydia, who insisted on following his regiment to the States, becomes a serving girl at the Old Absinthe House and has many colorful adventures, embodying the egalitarian spirit of the New World as she casts off the shackles of England's class-based society.

Jane Austen is funny! "Of course she is, you dumdum, tell us something we don't know," is probably what you're thinking, since it's my impression the average Litten has read each Austen novel several hundred times. But this was my maiden voyage, and I wasn't sure what to expect. My previous verdict on 19th-century English novels was that they were something to be endured and appreciated rather than enjoyed, so I can't express how surprised...?

The_Penniless_Author ...and delighted I was to find myself smiling right from the first page. I'm not sure if it's true (I suppose I could Google it), but I have to assume Austen was one of Wodehouse's great inspirations, so gently but perfectly does she poke fun at the manners and pretensions of the middle/upper classes. A fantastic novel. Always nice when reality lives up to expectations! 2y
paulfrankspencer She has a wonderful sense of sarcasm. It's my favorite aspect of her writing. I'd have to re-read to confirm, but Northanger Abbey is my favorite of hers for all the wonderful sarcasm. 2y
The_Penniless_Author @paulfrankspencer Agreed. I used the word "gentle" to describe her satirizing, but maybe that was the wrong term. She can be pretty cutting when she wants. 2y
