A decades-spanning story of the friendship between two girls, and their circle of family and friends. I didn‘t love it, but I‘m glad I read it.

I picked up this book last Fall at this coffee shop we have in Denver called The Bardo, and I found this postcard tucked inside. It is from when the book was published in 1998, postmarked from Anaheim and announcing the release of that dumbo ornament... I just love finding old ephemera in used books, it's my favorite thing! And incidentally this appears to be a first edition printing of this book, what a good used book find! 💜
So sorry for the late posting! I left work yesterday with a migraine!!
Thank you so much to @TheBookHippie ! When I opened the package, I squealed as I love both of these of these authors and can‘t wait to dive into these books! The tote, coffee, and notebook are so perfect!!!
It turns out Judy Blume is as much a reliable author for adults as she is for children and adolescents. This is not a complicated novel but somehow it still gets just how complicated female friendships and families can be. Reading this felt like visiting an old friend in a nostalgic summer location.
I know I know, summer book with snowflakes 🤷🏼♀️❄️
Read a 100 pages today and it‘s pretty good.
#snowflake #snowflakes #papersnowflakes
This is a moving and sentimental novel about friendship. The story is centered around two girls who spend their summers together and grow up together, building a bond that is everlasting through challenging times. I loved this book 5/5
I‘m guessing this is a rerelease because of all the Are You There God hype, it‘s copyrighted 1998. #readwithjenna it was an impulse buy at Costco because of the cover 🌊 JB has no filter when it comes to emerging sexuality and that‘s apparent here but so is family, friendship, coming of age. What I appreciated the MOST was how true to herself Victoria ( Vix) became, finding your own path can be hard
All school prep is on hold, it‘s a beautiful day and I will be trapped in a portable soon enough
It was a viscerally nostalgic read for me. It somehow felt light and heavy at the same time but wholly relatable. Judy Blume is able to write in such a way that her timely reads remain relatably timeless, no matter the age group. She tackles every single uncomfortable thought or feeling of the human experience and presents us with magic.
⭐️⭐️💫
I can appreciate the frankness of the writing and the air of summer nostalgia, but the story itself was kind of shallow and depressing.🎧
Kim‘s book recommendation is an adult book by Judy Blume on Book Interrupted‘s Manuscript Monday. https://www.bookinterrupted.com/post/manuscript-monday-summer-sisters
My book podcast is BACK after a brief summer break… and I‘m thrilled to share Episode 201! On it, author Alison Rose Greenberg joins me to chat about SUMMER SISTERS in all of its teen angst, heartbreak, and drama. Link to listen in my bio!
Stuck between a so-so and pick on this one. Went with pick because for some reason I couldn‘t put it down. The writing was light and airy. It transports you back to middle school and high school summers with your best friends, figuring out life and all its mysteries. You find yourself relating to Vix, going through moments of loathing the type of friend Caitlin is. You get swept up on their journey, that‘s for sure.
Recycled books from other lists to create this one. Almost all of them are off of my overflowing bookshelf. Here‘s to tackling the TBR and making more space for new books of course 😝😉 #bookspin #doublespin #bookspinbingo
fun and easy read but maybe don‘t write about kids and sex judy???? also caitlin was trash
There were parts I liked and parts I didn't like. I liked the characters, but not the sexual exploration of the children.
I'm reading Summer Sisters by Blume and listening to Klara and the Sun, Kiya: Mother of a Pharaoh #FoodandLit, and Ceremony this weekend.
New feature #WeekendReading @Andrew65
This book is nothing special. The friendship between Vix and Caitlin reminded me of some of my own childhood friendships. Their connection as the age gets less believable and some of the things revealed by the end of the book is honestly so shocking that I found it difficult to relate anymore. I'm also not a fan of books that end on an unfinished note. I want closure for the characters.
All in all, it's a fun and easy read.
Summer Sisters is a story about two friends who grow up together and the bond they form through their summers together at Martha‘s Vineyard. It follows their journey through life, love and friendship from middle school through adulthood.
I was hoping for a nostalgic beach read, but I found the story to be very simple and many of the characters were underdeveloped.
Welcome to Litsy, @TheArtsierTheBeckster !!
Our sister @LiteraryinLititz got ME hooked, and now we‘re ALL convinced that Litsy is the place to be! 🥰
And can‘t forget my bro, @wanderer15 😎
I hope you find the Litsy community as fun and warm as I do!! Xoxo!!
This is a rich story of friendship, lies, betrayal & loyalty. Love is the act of commitment & between friends Victoria & Caitlyn a lopsided life-long process. Never having read an adult Judy Blume book, knowing her reputation, I wasn't sure I wanted to read this one. I'm glad I did. It's a funny, poignant story about relationships in the ups & downs of life.
I visited this perfect little bookstore named Books & Books @ The Studios in Key West, Florida. While shopping...
Husband: What are you starting at?
Me: Judy Blume!! She really does work here!! 💙
Such an honor to be in her presence. She was so sweet and kind as she interacted with her coworkers. I‘m way too introverted to speak to her first. 🤭
An emotional read. Its a story centered around Caitlin Sumers, the attention seeking troubled girl, that invites mousey Victoria Leonard to Marthas Vineyard for the summer when they are 12. Its a summer tradition from then on. Its the main stage for the story. It is centered around caitlins actions but is written about Victorias life and how those things shape her life. Friendship is a double edge sword that Judy Blume poetically tells us about.
As the temperatures start to drop, I chose this classic. I‘ve never read this but I‘m flying through it. It‘s making me miss Massachusetts and everything I leave there when I come back to Pennsylvania.
The characters in this book remind me of me and my friend from school. We don‘t see each other often but we have the friendship that is special.
🍦 for breakfast?? Last week in Wisconsin with my sisters🥰❤️❤️ 🍨
#songsofsummer #summergirls @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620 One from my TBR list. Judy Blume has always been a favourite of mine.

My dog Charlie seems to think I lost weight and I no longer need as much room on the loveseat. #dogs #dogsoflitsy #staycation
It‘s cold and dreary in Chicago. I thought a book about summer by a long time favorite author might help with the winter blues. #booknerd #bookaddict #bookworm
Day 6 - coming in late to this! Love my sissy! #sisters

1. My sister came to visit from Florida. She‘s still here! We spend most of our time reading.
2. The neighborhood kids just came over to wish me a Happy Birthday. ❤️❤️❤️
3. Evening. I finally wind down and am ready to sit quietly.
4. Yes! We sit outside all summer, and now after school with the kids and chatter away.
5. I wish I knew. Mine was almost a year. I just couldn‘t shake it. Just got out of it a couple of months ago.

This book takes you through the ups and downs of two very different girls who, almost by luck, end up becoming best friends.
It really brought me back to those days when my best friend was my whole world. It made me feel a plethora of emotions that are very unique to those childhood years.
The ending was a bit weak, but the rest of the book was pretty fantastic.
#friendship
STILL TRUE. I usually don‘t mind book to movie adaptations, but this is one book that I want the characters as I see them to stay only in my brain. 😂
#readingresolutions day 24 #beachread @Jess7
The perfect beach read. Even though my pasty self does not do beaches. I do occasionally do front yards on cloudy days though!
Slightly book related but Amanda Palmer released this song on Judy Blume‘s birthday and it‘s absolutely beautiful😊 I read Summer sisters in high school and many times since and it became one of the most important books in my life. And the music video has a quick cameo from Neil Gaiman😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_k02Waw4WXk&sns=em
