This was like watching a reality TV show with all the friendships and drama but where you get to see what goes on behind the scenes too; all the low points of being a ‘star‘ (and there is a lot of them in the latter half). I‘m glad to have finally read it after it being on my tbr for years 💕 #booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is exciting and trashy and all kinds of depressing, and I might have really loved it. The ending made me SO depressed and there was some hard to swallow language and fat shaming in it that I can‘t bring myself to give it 5 stars on Goodreads JUST YET. #Booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction #spoileralert #its💊💊

Crossing some overdue reviews off the list starting with this one!
The story revolves around three women in the entertainment business, each grappling with demons of their own the more success they attain. JS doesn‘t hold back & some chapters are like a raw wound. She uses the celebrity culture to peel back the layers & reveal the flawed & tragic, unpalatable & pitiable. The overall tone has a modern feel & crackles with witty dialogue. ⬇️

rohit-sawant Beneath the surface sensationalism, it delves into societal expectations, sexuality, objectification, self-deception, addiction, plus a variety of relevant themes, all the while keeping you hooked throughout. A part towards the end left me depressed for quite a bit, other parts left me enraged & heartbroken. A timeless and compulsive read. 7mo

I love it when Half Price Books has a sale!! This is today's rather eclectic haul. I read 'Valley of the Dolls' and 'Manson...' in high school, but I'm looking forward to reading them from an adult perspective. I've also developed a longing for 'Mad Men' era fiction, so two of these should hit the mark! Happy Saturday!! 😊📚

This book is what first came to mind for the #candyland prompt for the seventh day of #SeasonsReadings. I think I would have enjoyed this book more had I read it in my twenties. I think I had a higher appreciation for camp then. But still this is well worth reading for it‘s classic status and its depiction of three women in the entertainment industry in the mid century who take uppers and downers like candy 🍭.

Day Six: What Not-Safe-for-Parents or Banned Books did you read?

I‘ve had a lifelong habit of reading banned books because censorship is wrong. So, here‘s the deal. My Dad was in charge of filtering our movies and he filtered hardcore. My Mom was in charge of filtering the books and she filtered NOTHING. Thank goodness. While I was in high school, she suggested this book. She also requested I not show my Dad! 😂😂😂

Gurl, my wig is shook as I say this while I am surrounded by my pile of empty liquor bottles and scattered pills of Ambien, Xanax, and Vicoden, wearing my frayed slip from Frederick's of Hollywood, smoking a pack of Virginia Slims and calling to my young pool boy named Lance as I snort a line of Coke and regret my fading celebrity career as a celebrity housewife, which I had four abortions showcased. These two books jump out at me for #rip2myyouth. VoD is a book I read for the first time last year. I‘ve always been curious about it for the Sharon Tate angle and it did not disappoint. I loved it. Written in 1960's it was not at a light fluffy read at all!! The story starts out with three young women hoping to find some independance in a time when women were expected to get married and have children and be dependant on a man. They become friends and the story follows them through the years. The women experience success and failure in love and work, leading to heartbreak, addiction and tragedy. It was a wildly entertaining read!
