This was decent but if I heard "postulating" one more time I was going to lose it. Lol

I have lots of titles & books about #family on my shelves. I picked these two because the family in the titles refers to cults. The tagged book is memoir about the author‘s time with The Manson Family & The Family is YA fiction about a teen in a collective society in the rainforest of Costa Rica.
I‘m finding this really interesting so far! A fascinating insight into Manson‘s character and his actions.
100% loved it. I would argue her whole childhood set her up for Charles Manson. I love reading about Manson family. I did my junior year report on Charles Manson for honors history. Loved seeing more of the inside though.
My choices for new year reading has certainly been all all over the place and not cozy in the least. For my #lastfirst I ended the year with an Alice in Wonderland story taking place in an asylum and then went right into a memoir from a member of the Manson family. @BookNAround
My non fiction read deals with the story of the youngest member of the Manson Family. It has been an emotional ride
fell asleep reading every 5 minutes. but an interesting perspective and my first book about charles manson
Currently reading!
Casey, who works in Strand's shipping department has a #staffpick today. 😁
“Diane Lake‘s relatable search for a place to belong drew me in, and her unique insight into the family she found kept me engaged. I recommend this memoir to anyone interested in True Crime, especially that of one of the world‘s most notorious cults.“
Completed for the “something with an unlikeable character” category in the #nonfiction2019 challenge. I‘d planned to read a book about Trump for this box but I‘m sick to death of him so I decided I‘d rather read about Charles Manson. In any case—this book was ok. A bit slow and a slog in parts. But still better than Trump. ✌🏼

Have book, will travel. And have something to do while waiting for the hair color to set.
I'm sick today. But at least I have my cats. I'm reading a book on a cult member of Charles Manson. Starting my year out right.

I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book! As you know, I am a big true crime fanatic. What I loved about this book was how honest and raw Dianne was to talk about her story and time with the Family, Charlie‘s infamous cult. Luckily, she was not involved with the Tate/LaBianca murders but her testimony is what ultimately sealed his fate. This should be on everyone‘s shelves ❤️
Awesome read. It really delves deeply into the life of one of Charlie‘s girls and how he manipulated them into following him. Diane takes you into the counter culture scene and how the actions of others can push us to places we never thought we‘d go.
Sorry I‘ve been behind in my postings. Listening to this now. If you like the subject, you can get past her voice on the audio book. It really gives an inside look into how Charlie kept his “Family” in line and together.
One more post before I take some #metime for the night. This might be an #unpopularopinion on this, but I really didn't care for this book. I found it well written but it dragged a lot. It kind of felt like The Girls for me. Just really underwhelming 🤔
Am I the only one not really feeling this book? I will read and watch pretty much anything #Manson related so I was excited to start this but I'm about halfway through and it's just kind of "meh" for me. ?
I totally just binge listened to this book...12+ hours since yesterday. It is narrated by the author, which I first thought was going to be a detriment, but Dianne Lake‘s sincere recounting of her tragic childhood experiences as the youngest member of the Manson family quickly resonated with me. This is an extraordinary story, and Dianne‘s courage and resilience are stunning. One of my favorite non-fiction reads of 2018, if not all-time.
#GetMovin #Believer
"You break me down, you build me up, believer, believer..."
Another of my favorite non-fiction reads this year. I read Member of the Family back in March but keep thinking about it. This song and its lyrics make me think of Dianne Lake, who met Charles Manson when she was fourteen and spent two years being a believer while being manipulated, controlled and abused by him.
1. Besides the tagged book, I'm also working on Stolen Innocence, Lilian Boxfish and another for #LMPBC #moosemoose
2. I'm not sure what got me started 🤔
3. Nighttime when everyone else is in bed
4. So many, but off the top of my head... I loved The Outsiders and the characters
#manicmonday @JoScho
I'm not sure where my fascination with crime came from... Manson is probably one of the craziest. Dianne Lake has been there, done that.....compelling read! Loving it!
Day 30: April Wrap Up
Far from the Tree and Member of the Family were by far this month‘s standouts! Both 5 🌟! I also really enjoyed the dark, bizarre novel “Perfume”-
4⭐️! Jodi brings up the rear with 1.5⭐️- would def skip this one- very disappointing!
I had so much fun participating in this month‘s photo challenge! Thanks @Jess7 for hosting- looking forward to May!

I present to you the ultimate True Crime Duo!!!Without a doubt read Helter Skelter first to get the facts of the case and then when your wondering how in the world anyone could have fallen for Crazy Manson‘s shtick, follow it up with Member of the Family. This book was written as if you were having a cup of coffee with the author and she was telling you the craziest story you‘ve ever heard- but she‘s so earnest and genuine, you know it‘s true! 5🌟
Day 26: Strategy
Currently trying to strategize how to hide out during parent/teacher conference night so I can just read my book in peace!!! 😂📖👩🏫

1. This weekend one of my best friends came to visit and we went out for delicious Mexican food and sangrias! I also got my BOTM delivery! 💜
2. Oh yes- pretty much anything on Bravo and a proud card carrying member of Bachelor Nation 🌹
3. Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough 🌟🤯
4. I never met a tote I didn‘t love (and neeeeed) 👜
5. “I‘ll Be Gone in the Dark”- haven‘t read it yet but excited about today‘s developments in the case!

Day 21: Shame
Wow- I am all in on this one! Wonderfully written and a powerful, jolting read. I haven‘t even gotten to the Manson part yet, but just reading about what the author‘s parents allowed and even encouraged makes me cringe. Yes it was the 60s, but allowing your 14 year old to smoke pot, trip on LSD and run off with strangers?! Shame on you!
#ReadingResolutions @Jess7
Day 17: Celebrate!
Just picked up my copy of this book in preparation for hearing Dianne Lake speak at this year‘s Crime Con in Nashville! Celebrating only 2 more weeks til True Crime Heaven with my best friend!!!

“I‘d come to the Family because I‘d wanted to belong, because I was looking for a place in the world. I was gradually drawn in until I couldn‘t see how lost I‘d become.”
Captivating! It starts by laying the groundwork of Lake‘s upbringing with drug-addled hippie parents who set her loose at age 14. Then, there‘s life with Charlie and the Family. She doesn‘t hold back about her participation in the cult or about helping send the guilty to prison.
Finished last night-my last book of March. Absorbing insider look at life with the Manson Family. Lake was just 14 when she was introduced to Charles Manson-the child of hippie parents who tuned in & out of society & their parental roles, she was ripe for Manson's manipulation. The details she provides about the group are fascinating & disturbing. More focus is on the group before the murders, so a good addition to books about the crimes & trials.
It was *finally* nice enough outside to #audiowalk at the greenway today. Spotted this momma and her babies just as I was finishing up. 😍 I‘m switching back and forth between #ebook and #audio because I can‘t get enough of this one.

Random tidbit re: Catherine (Gypsy) Share and Bobby Beausoleil
#Manson #MansonFamily #cults
One of many ways #Manson controlled his girls. Give them each a tab of acid and spout off this nonsense. But I have to say this manipulation of his name was pretty clever. #cults

Tagging one of my current reads.
Mahalo for the tag @UwannaPublishme 🌺
1. I write them in a notebook & use Goodreads.📓✒️
2. Maybe first person slightly--but as long as a book is well written, any POV is fine.🤔
3. It starts at 3AM EST & that's 9PM here so I should be sleeping through most if it. 😴
4. Since Thursday is over or almost over most places, I'll just tag anyone who hasn't done it & wants to.👍
#TrivialThursday @GarthRanzz
I‘m on a #Manson kick. I‘m #currentlyreading Dianne Lake‘s book and #currentlylistening to Didion‘s The White Album (about 60s-70s California including several mentions of The Family).
I‘ve read Helter Skelter and Manson .... looking for any other titles I need to grab. Thanks!
#MarchIntoOz #DontBelieveAnymore I'm only about a third of the way into this book by the youngest member of the Manson Family-who fell under Charles Manson's spell when she was just 14. At this point Diane has just met Manson & is entering the 'believer' stage but the disillusionment will begin to set in & she'll be saying I "don't believe anymore" when it comes to Manson & thinking she found the family she was searching for.
#MarchIntoOz #Overkill 📚It may be overkill that I made today's Potato Soup with White Cheddar & Chives while listening to an NF audiobook about a serial killer (I'll Be Gone in the Night) then start reading this NF about life inside Charles Manson's cult. I thought about grabbing another book but the next two novels in my #TBR stack (The Chalk Man & This Fallen Prey) involve killers too. Yep, sure sounds like 'over-kill' & overkilling to me! 🤣😱
It‘s an incredible concept, totally impossible to fathom: that the person you‘re standing next to or having sex with is somehow related to God. It‘s preposterous, hard enough to say out loud, let alone to acknowledge that at one time I felt that way. But that‘s what it means to be in a cult: You lose a part of yourself to someone else or to a group, so that your entire mind no longer belongs to you.
Living without him may have been hard, but living with him had been harder.
*Reading about Dianne's childhood has been rough. So much of her experience echoes those of my friends and many of the kids I met through Washington state's juvenile justice system. You can't discount the effects a chaotic family member has on growing children, particularly if they're a parent.*
Memories fade, but trauma remembers. It is stored in your body, your senses, your synapses and cells.
As someone who has always been very fascinated with the Manson case (I'm a huge Sharon Tate fan and the whole thing makes me sick!😤), this went right onto my TBR after being recommended by another Litten (thank you @Reviewsbylola !) - it's on sale today for $2.99 so I had to snatch it up!
