Holy Bible: King James Version. Illustrated by Gustave Dore | Gustave Dor
63 posts | 61 read | 8 reading | 5 to read
When the King James translation of the Bible was first published in 1611, it was the first time that many people throughout the English-speaking world were able to read the Old and New Testaments in their native tongue. This edition also contains over 200 beautiful, rarely collected full-page illustrations by Gustave Dore (1832-1883).

My new view for a couple days while hubby works on fixing the backed up plumbing in our house 🙊 Lots of unforeseen expenses, ugh. 😓 Well, my little daughter and I are making the most of it. 😬 Bible reading and working on new designs for my Etsy shop. I didn‘t bring my big beautiful Bible, just this little purse-size KJV.

Would anyone like to share thoughts /takeaways/ favorite verses from the #BibleBuddyRead‘s readings from this past week? 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, 1 Peter, and 2 Peter 🙌🏻 #WeeklyWrapUp

Allylu Just finished Thessalonians and 1 Peter today. Are you planning on doing another Bible Study in 2023? I‘m trying to decide where to go from here. 2y
BookBabe Hi @Allylu , I see that you have since found my previous post about doing a “Power Read the Bible in 60 Days” buddy read, but if that is not something you‘re interested in right now, you could check out the Bible studies from the Daily Grace Co.— they are really lovely: https://thedailygraceco.com/collections/all-bible-studies 2y

#BibleBuddyRead friends, any thoughts or verses you‘d like to share from the Psalms and final chapters of 2 Chronicles and Proverbs?
#WeeklyWrapUp

Allylu We're halfway through the year!!! I'm finishing up 2 Kings and starting on Isaiah tomorrow. So glad you started this program. I am learning so much that I never noticed. 2y
Roary47 I‘m still working my way through those names in 1 Chronicles. It‘s slow work, but learning a lot of really interesting names. I‘m four weeks behind, but I‘ll get there! 2y
Daisey I‘m excited to officially be halfway through and on track! I‘ve really been enjoying Psalms in small bits between other books. 2y

Some truly astounding drama has been unfolding in King David‘s family in yesterday‘s and today‘s readings. Today we read 2 Samuel 13-15. I don‘t know about you, but I am seeing a big shift in David, from back when he fought Goliath to these chapters when he‘s running away from his own son. 😳 Just goes to show the damaging consequences of sin! #BibleBuddyRead

#OnThisDay in 1611 the King's Printers printed the first edition of the Authorized King James Bible. While it was not the first Bible translated into English, it was the first made available to the common people of England. The influence of the KGV is such that noted atheists Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins have called it "a giant step in the maturing of English literature" and "a great work of literature", respectively. #HistoryGetsLIT

KCofKaysville @TheKidUpstairs The KJV Bible is such an interesting book. The outdated words are especially fun for me to learn. 3y

It‘s time for some #WeeklyWrapUp book talk for the #BibleBuddyRead!

This past week we read Deuteronomy 1-15 and Psalms 11-17.

What was your favorite (or most memorable) verse that you read this week?

Patchshank What kind of pen is that? Ive been using an ooly brand fountain pen. Theyre nice, but the ink gets used up so quickly. 3y
BookBabe @Patchshank It‘s a TWSBI Eco. I love it. Holds a ton of ink, writes great, affordable, good looking pen. I got it from Goulet Pens—great small company, nice people, wonderful customer service. ☺️ https://www.gouletpens.com/collections/twsbi-eco-fountain-pens 3y

Allylu Finishing up Numbers and Deuteronomy tomorrow, then on to Joshua. 3y
BookBabe Psalm 15 is what stood out to me most from this past week‘s readings. Such a powerful and poignant lesson on how to live the way God wants us to! ❤️ 3y
BookBabe @Allylu 😃🙌🏻 3y
Roary47 I‘m so behind. Work has been rough. I‘ve been reading slowly and hopefully will catch up this next week since I have spring break after this week. 3y
Patchshank Wow. That is a great website. Thanks for letting me know. 3y
BookBabe @Patchshank You‘re welcome! I‘m glad you liked it! It‘s been my favorite place to get pens & pen paraphernalia since I found them ☺️ 3y
BookBabe @Roary47 I hear you on the reading slowly—reading with a toddler is no joke 😄 What if you were to make a list of all the chapters you need to catch up on, and then just pick up where we are now, and do the catch-up stuff when you have extra time? If you have a list of what you need to catch up on, you can check it off as you go, and that way you can make sure that you didn‘t miss anything 🙂 3y
Roary47 @BookBabe that‘s a great idea I‘ll work on that. Thank you for the suggestion. 😊💛 3y

It‘s time for some #WeeklyWrapUp #BookTalk for the #BibleBuddyRead!

This past week we read Numbers 27-36, and the latter half of the week we spent in the Gospel of Mark 1-16.

What was your favorite (or most memorable) verse that you read this week?

quirkyreader For this weeks readings the verse that stands out the Most is Mark 1:10. 3y
BookBabe There are two verses in Mark that stand out to me the most. One was based on a question I‘d had in my own mind… Mark 12:25 “When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.” 3y
See All 10 Comments
BookBabe The verse that stands out to me most of all is Mark 12:29-31:
"Which command is the most important of all?"
29 Jesus answered,
"The most important is Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
31 The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these."
(edited) 3y
BookBabe 👆🏻👆🏻 That is BIG!!! Soooo important. Anyone else find that second one hard to achieve?? 😬 3y
BookBabe @quirkyreader “Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬ 😃👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Yes!!! That‘s a great verse! That jumped out at me too when I read it. ❤️ 🕊
3y
Butterfinger Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 3y
BookBabe @Butterfinger Yes! Excellent verse! 🙌🏻 3y
cwarnier I am just starting to read Mark, yes I know I am behind. I always find it interesting how the little details seem to float away, and it is just the meat if what needs to be said in the book of Mark. 3y
BookBabe @cwarnier Yes, I noticed that too about the meat 🥩 😄 Don‘t worry, most of us get behind at some point. Life happens. The Lord sees your efforts to make time for Him and His Word, that‘s what‘s important. ❤️ 3y
