I am thankful for Dame Agatha. She introduced me to mysteries through the tagged book. I still find comfort in her mysteries and have branched out to thriller mysteries, cozy mysteries, historical mysteries…. It is my go-to genre.

#SundayFunday on Monday.

Detective Poirot has his work cut out for him when a man is found murdered just a few doors away. He and a wild cast of characters are snowed in and without access to regular law enforcement, it is up to Poirot to solve the crime.
Some of the leaps in logic felt a bit contrived but I was listening to the audio book so I might‘ve missed some things that made them make more sense.
Xenophobia aside (ahh the 1930s), I had a good time.

Spouse, son, and I enjoyed an excellent production of Ken Ludwig's stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic. A little late to be out on a school night, but it was worth it.

LiteraryinPA That sounds great! I‘ve loved seeing stage plays of The Mousetrap and Witness for the Prosecution. 2mo
ImperfectCJ @LiteraryinPA The set design was incredible. The audience applauded when we got our first glimpse. Paul Tate dePoo III did an amazing job. http://www.pauldepoo.com/murder-on-the-orient-express/ 2mo

Murder on the Orient Express is really good, I became truly drawn into the book and interested in what would happen in the next chapters. In the book their are a bunch wealthy folks on a train. One night someone gets killed, their thank fully was a detective on the train. Agatha Christie wrote this book in third person, but not only is this book absolutely thrilling but it‘s also fun for yourself to guess who you think the killer might be!

It's Agatha Christie's birthday!!

What is your favorite book or fact about this amazing woman?

My favorite book is tagged, and I am always in awe remembering that she was a huge fan (and one of the first women!) of surfing 🏄‍♀️

Ruthiella I can‘t name a favorite. Some are better than others, sure, but for me she really has no equal. 2mo
dabbe Hands-down favorite: AND THEN THERE WERE NONE. What a woman! 🤩 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Ruthiella the way she grabbed this genre and shook it all to hell!! What an icon. 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @dabbe this one is so good! I am so glad someone way back in the day understood the original title would not cut it in the States and changed it. I always think of this change when people complain about sponsorship today, about how we have been changing books and updating them to be less offensive forever! 2mo
dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures Oh, yeah, that original title--oy! I always had to discuss this with my students before teaching it! 🤩 2mo

Fall: Murder On The Orient Express - Agatha Christie. I enjoyed this book when I read it in Oct 2020.

Spring: The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett. It‘s set during Spring but I read it last Fall and I enjoyed it.

Summer: Never Lie - Freida McFadden. I read this one over the summer and I enjoyed it.

Winter: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I reread it last Winter and I enjoyed it.

1. Tagged

2. My favorite way to prepare eggs is in the microwave. My mom taught me how to do it. I crack open 2 or 3 eggs in a cereal bowl, stir them up with a fork, heat them up for 1 minute, take them out and stir them up again. After that, I cut them up so they‘re scrambled, heat them up again for a minute and take them out. After that, I season them with salt and pepper or hot sauce.

I‘ve seen the different movies a lot of times and knew what to expect but still the book is always better. Since I have a daily commute of 1.5 hours now, I spent less time reading but more time listening. I like the Agatha Christie‘s story because you never know the culprit (because Poirot always has extra information).

Glad I never saw any movie before reading this, so the ending was not spoiled in the least. Definitely one of Christie's best; she is incredible with the locked room novel, though in this case, of course, it's a train. A classic whodunit with the required detective tropes. One thing though: lots of prejudice here between men/women, rich/poor, royalty/everyman, even against nationalities. Perhaps typical for the time and where it was written.

I‘m deeply ashamed to admit I‘d not read this one before, but what a delight now that I‘ve finally caught up with the masses.

Fun, fast, and about a crime that you don‘t really mind happened since the “victim” was a monster.

Plus, I finally get why Hercule Poirot is so beloved.

Looking forward to watching at least one of the adaptations this weekend — open to recommendations as to which one is best!

I‘m not going to recap the plot because this is a classic and even those who haven‘t read it are at least somewhat aware of/familiar with it. I‘ll just say that I read this book many years ago and I still remember every plot point and every twist and turn because it‘s literally that memorable. Agatha Christie remains the queen of mystery decades after her death. A brilliant, classic, memorable, expertly crafted novel!

This was the first detective I read in a while that didn't make it obvious who did it. I appreciated that! I also liked the locked-room aspect, which was the main reason I chose this. However, the characters weren't very versatile, and everyone was written down as a stereotype of themself. It stil needs to get points for the plot, though. And in its time it probably was a different experience to read.
