This is a beautiful essay about the joys of reading and books in general which I will definitely be reading again with hi-lighter in hand.

“In books, I have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own. I learned who I was and who I wanted to be, what I might aspire to, and what I might dare to dream about my world and myself.”

“A book—the book that was, for some reason, THE book— can be reread, unchanged. Only we have changed. And that makes all the difference.”

“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”

I am always going to rate books about reading and books very highly. Because this was written in 1998, before e-readers, the section about the experience of reading on a laptop is funny. I still prefer hard copy books. Oh, also, there are a few reading lists at the end. I love reading lists. Long live the written word. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

GypsyKat This sounds awesome! 4y

This was the December pick for the #modernmrsdarcy book club. It was a fast read that I really enjoyed. I, too, was the child (and now the adult) who would rather read to the exclusion of almost everything else - and there are never enough hours in the day! This book left me feeling understood and part of a wonderful group of humans who learn about the world - and themselves - from books. #mmdbookclub #mmd

This is a very personal book. Very interesting thoughts, but again since this is personal, this did not necessarily apply to me so much. Bonus...lots of good lists at the end.

Copwithabook Books with more books lists are dangerous. I‘ve easily added over 100 books to my TBR thanks to these kind of reads lol 4y

A great way to keep the morning going... I really want to pick up a Jamaica Kincaid now (she mentions her in chapter one). So many 😊😊😊😍😍😍! #goodmorning #readers

I think this is a lovely quote. I personally agree that reading is so much more than it seems. I would read all day if I could. I just started this account and I know it‘s going to be great. I want to share all the books I read and all the quotes I find, also I might write a short story. So it going to be great.

Between a pick and a so-so. I loved her love of reading but found her overview of pleasure reading slightly myopic. Full review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1545751374?book_show_action=false&from_rev...

Yessssssss. Sometimes even within bookish online communities you get snotty comments if you read a high number about it's not a race, quality is more important than quantity, who's so insecure that they count the number of books read in a year, "I'm too busy" (that last one is valid except when said in response to another person's reading as it implies someone else's time is frivolous if they read "too much")

BarbaraTheBibliophage Amen, my friend. And as for the glorification of busy, it‘s a cult and an obsession. Not my thing anymore. 6y

I gave up on Seveneves which left me in the peculiar predicament of having nothing already in progress after kids went to sleep tonight. I grabbed this for #LetterQ of #LitsyAtoZ and may start another Q later (actually only had four unread books by Q authors on my goodreads so I borrowed all of them).

I could read Anne Quindlen's stunning words all day. ? "Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home." Anne also includes several amusing lists like this one. So which book would you save? ??Sorry Melville, I'd rescue all Anne Tyler and Fannie Flagg. LitsyA-Z #LetterQ @BookishMarginalia

DrSabrinaMoldenReads I think I read this but need to read again. Thanks! 7y

My other personal #readingchallenge for 2017 is to clean up my #tbr stack. It's silly but I'll feel accomplished after reading all the books whose titles begin with k,q,u,v,y & z and whose authors' names start with q,u,v,y, & z. The 4 challenges include 101 books so I have some flexibility for the other 20 I'll try for Goodreads. I've never been this organized or planned the year like this so we'll see how it goes! Wish me luck!
#tbrtuesday

Reecaspieces Dumb question, how do you get all those pics of books on one post..#techchallenged 7y
megnews @Reecaspieces I created shelves on Goodreads for the challenges and took a screenshot of the shelf on the webpage. It doesn't work in the app. I'm #techchallenged too. I see people post cool stuff all the time and can't figure out how. 7y

Working on book lists for 2017 Reading Challenges. I want to do as much as possible without buying new books, but this is taking some serious thought and planning (and, yes, will involve the purchase of additional books, even duplicating books across challenges) #blameitonLitsy

SaturnDoo I have my challenge layouts done in my bujo but haven't attempted to plan my books yet..😐 Just not enough time in the day. I may just have to wing it 😂 7y
DGRachel @SaturnDoo I spent nearly 8 hours Saturday & Sunday. I still have more than 20 categories to complete. I'm already starting to feel pressure and it feels like the fun is being sucked out of my TBR for 2017. I am reconsidering the challenges, since reading is my primary stress reliever. I refuse to ruin that. 7y
SaturnDoo @DGRachel yeah that is why I think I am going to wing it. My reading time is my reliever and pleasure so my goal is to read what I want. If it fits a challenge Awesome...if it doesn't Awesome 😂😂😂 The challenges are supposed to be fun and I will be happy regardless if I finish them or not 😊 7y
