I like the setting (Paris before the French Revolution) & the magic system (requires sorrow & blood) but the writing wasn‘t super engaging & the side plot of a flying ballon was boring. Also, the female characters made really stupid decisions that didn‘t make sense.
Camille steps into the cost & pain to do magic in an attempt to save herself & her sister. She meets other magic users & and learns the dark history of magic in versailles.

The French Revolution has always been a historical topic that interested me, so having a book immersed in this setting intrigued me and made it a quick read. The characters themselves were decent, however I found a majority of them unlikeable at times. The plot was unique and I liked the story itself, however I don‘t know if I‘ll find myself reading its sequel.

My beginning of Autumn Book Haul. Have you read any of these?

I love the concept of the French Revolution mixed with magic. This book was very cool and quite unique. It offers great descriptions of Paris at this time. I wish there had been a bit more depth to the magical world, but perhaps that will come in the sequel.

Wow! I really enjoyed this mix of magic and revolutionary France. I found Camille to be very likable, and I was rooting for her throughout each chapter. I can‘t wait for the second book to come out!

On this Bastille Day, let me distract myself from my cancelled 2020 Paris vacation with the news that the Enchante�e duology is getting new titles. I will reserve judgement until I see how these titles serve the overall story arc, especially as I am sure this was a hard decision to make.

The last title change I remember is when Rachel Hawkins‘ Royals became Prince Charming. Thoughts?

A nice change of genre's. In the time of Marie Antoinette, it's a story of magic in the time of Paris. I'm not normally one for this kind of story but it was told so well I really enjoyed it.

Revolutionary stories have my heart, mix it in with 18th century glamour and magical realism of Versailles and I‘m in love!

This story addressed classism, racism, privilege. I love that probably the most. It still held up it‘s end of romance, but it did not shy away from the heavier topics. If anything, this debut sets the stage for what‘s to come next. I can‘t wait for the second book to come out!

Here is my starting line up for today. We see where it leads to after this. 💖

Spent some time audio-puzzling. I finished listening to Enchantee and quite enjoyed it! It is more of character driven story and on the quiet side, but it is also very atmospheric. I enjoyed it a lot.

Loved this. I will admit the plot and character development could have been a touch stronger, but the style of writing and sense of place was so bonkers good, I didn‘t care.

I‘ll definitely be looking out for the author‘s next book.

This was....almost always on the verge of being really great, but never quite got there.

I just don't know about this one. It's moving so slowly and it's so sad. The writing is so good, but I just don't like books like this.

Fantastique!

I am in love with this book! The politics, the characters, the twists and turns of the plot all kept me engaged! I loved how deep the characters were. You instantly form a connection with Camille and Lazare, and Alain is so frustrating you hate seeing his name. The villain is fantastic, but I do wish his motives were explored a little more.

I highly highly recommend this book!

Enchantee really lives up to its name, with a beautiful depiction of courtly life in the time of Marie Antoinette. Camille can work magic, and she needs it. Orphaned, with a sick sister to support and a wastrel brother, she uses her wits and magical skills to keep her family together. With intrigue round every corner and where a face is but a courtly mask, she has to learn who to trust and who to fear. Wonderful, with fabulous attention to detail.

My reading buddy is back where she belongs.

Zelda‘s got some meds for the next couple weeks, but is otherwise doing great. â�¤ï¸�
