Royal Assassin (The Farseer Trilogy, Book 2)
Royal Assassin (The Farseer Trilogy, Book 2) | Robin Hobb
Fantasy as it ought to be written George R.R. Martin The second volume in Robin Hobbs internationally bestselling Farseer Trilogy. Honesty is the bedrock for any relationship. But how can Fitz royal bastard, trainee assassin, holder of secrets crucial to the security of the kingdom bare his soul to his beloved Molly? Danger lies all around him from the raiders savaging the coastal towns, and from within the court. The king has been struck down by a mystery illness and his eldest son, Verity, is bound up in the defence of the realm. When Verity leaves the court in search of the mythical Elderlings, Fitz finds himself friendless apart from his wolf, Nighteyes, and the kings strange, motley-clad fool, exposed to Prince Regals malign ambitions. He will be asked to sacrifice everything his heart, his hope, even his life for the sake of the realm.

🎧 Not sure why I waited so long to listen to this book. It‘s captivating & easy to read! If you liked the first book you‘ll enjoy this one also. BOOK 2 of The Farseer Trilogy.

There are characters to love & hate! Interesting magic! A good character driven series so far. Hoping to read book 3 next weekend!

Robin Hobb is a master. This is a fantastic follow-up to Assassin's Apprentice. The character's were so well defined, and the prose so well written that I was physically repulsed by the ignorance of Fitz at times, and I wanted to throw the book across the room when Regal was on the page. That much emotion being drawn from a book is unusual for me. I'm excited to finish the trilogy out.

TrishB You have so many to look forward to! Hobb is definitely a genius. 1y

🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

More like 4.5 🌟

This was way better than book one! The world building and characters are well drawn out, a bit more clarity with the magic system in this second installment. I think i am beginning to understand it better. I learned nothing more about the red ships.

With all that said, I love love love Nighteyes, the wolf and his character has upped the whole story for me. The last 150 pages also were incredible.

I read the Mad Ship trilogy a few years back and found them brilliant... Also enjoyed the rain wild chronicles. I guess this trilogy didn't quite meet my expectations... Although really good in terms of the world created and connecting with all of the characters, I felt it quite drawn out and it took me really long to finish. Glad I read them though!

What an amazing story. Although it took me a month to read this book, due to lack of time but I thoroughly enjoyed every page when I took out time to read it. Ending was super. We get to see Fitz grow up to be a big built man here 💪 and his anger episodes were very satisfying. Some action from him was what I was waiting for 😜. Love his relationship with Nighteyes and looking forward to more of their adventures together in the next book.

That was so intense! Edge of the seat, couldn‘t look away, finger nail bitting stuff.

Book 2 in the series and the characters have developed beautifully: The villains are absolutely despicable and I hate some of them with a violent passion! The heroes are flawed and realistic, but extremely likeable - totally cheering for them every step of the way.
The plot is intricate and intriguing.

Can‘t wait to dive into the third book of the series.

There are a lot of herbs, teas and tinctures in this book - so here‘s my Vitality Tea with Rooibos.

This is a great instalment in the Farseer trilogy - but man was it stressful being in the midst of Buckkeep during all the political intrigue, warfare and villainy. I feel exhausted! The characters are SO good though and the two types of magic are fascinating. 🌟🌟🌟🌟⬇️

Centique I like a fantasy where the “chosen one” doesn‘t get some godlike power gifted on a plate but has to struggle as hard as anyone else - and, by god, Fitz surely struggles. Will be excited to get to the final one - but I need to recover first 4y

The middle book of a trilogy is, for me, the make or break instalment. This had a few wobbly moments but on the whole it basically made sure the hook of the first book was firmly embedded! It was a little slow to get up to speed, had a fair bit of recap & the action is pretty much confined to a single location but it was soon back to the familiar convoluted intrigues of the Farseer family. Love the Fool - such a fascinating character ... cont. ⬇️

readingjedi ...and I was absolutely delighted by the relationship between Fitz & Nighteyes. Love that it isn't just magic, elves, wizards and dragons type fantasy though of course there are elements of those traditional tropes. The Skill, the Wit & the inscrutable Red Ship Raiders are all well thought out, subtle & thought provoking. 5y

The Farseer Trilogy | Robin Hobb
post image

This summer I have been mostly reading Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy. Not exaggeration - I feel like it took the entire season to get through it!

But now I've finished it & I feel that, after being so immersed in & absorbed by the world of the Six Duchies, I've been unceremoniously dumped back in the real world and with an unpleasant void in my reading life to boot.

TrishB It‘s a great series. 5y

Back from Kos - where I read for approximately zero minutes as going on holiday with a 5 year old is hard work & not really at all relaxing. Gone are the days of reading 6 books a week while sat in a leafy taverna sipping ouzo. Cue 14 days of wrestling with a bottle of sunscreen & a recalcitrant child.

So am finally on to volume 2 of this trilogy. Which I'm enjoying & is helping to reduce my stress level.

SamanthaMarie Hahaha this is all too real. Just replace 5 year old with 4 year old 🤦🏼‍♀️ these kiddos 😅 5y
saresmoore What an excellent synopsis of traveling with young children! 😆 5y

Second in her Farseer Trilogy sees our young hero Fitz growing up, falling in love, bonding with a wolf (well, we've all done it) and getting ever more mired in the nasty doings at court as his erstwhile protectors the King and Prince Verity are being out-manouevered by evil Prince Regal (boo, hiss). Slow-moving, maybe, but strangely compelling.
