This is a reread for me—my IRL book group is discussing it this week. There is a reason it is considered one of the best mysteries—I cannot say much without giving it away, but the way Christie constructs the murder and the ensuing investigation is brilliant. Lots of red herrings and misdirections, but if you use your little grey cells, you can figure it out. Absolutely brilliant. #192025 #1926
Another Monday - a new week to listen to audiobooks on my daily commute. I finished this one last week and have to say - again - I did not see the end coming. The point of view is definitely interesting, I wonder why the story wouldn‘t be told by Hastings. No wonder it is called Agatha Christie‘s masterpiece.

I started this yesterday and I‘m almost halfway through. Not sure exactly when it was published, but it was definitely the 1920s.

Another fantastic Christie mystery!
#bookspinbingo - this is my #doublespin for this month!
#pop24 - book with an unreliable narrator
Three in one set of Agatha Christie novels, featuring the murder of Roger Ackroyd, they do it with mirrors and Mrs McGintys dead. The murder of Roger Ackroyd has always been a favourite of mine.
I made the mistake of reading Lucy Worsley's biography of Christie before I read this. #spoileralert #oops

1) Stuart Turton is the main author that can't write fast enough for me!
2) The Murder of Roger Ackroyd maybe? Mystery is my fave genre, although I also love fantasy and literary fiction.
3) Robin Hobb!!!! Working my way through Fitz and the Fool.....
Roger Ackroyd's fiancée was being blackmailed over the death of her first husband & the pressure became too much & she took her own life. Ackroyd receives a letter containing some information about what happened but is suddenly murdered. There are plenty of suspects & how lucky (but perhaps unfortunate for the guilty party) that Hercule Poirot is residing in the village! (continued)
This is on the New York Times list of best mysteries of all time and now reading i totally agree. Written with a dash of humor.
Bit of a slow start to #JoyousJanuary but I have finished one book so that's a good start. Plus a chunk read in others. @Andrew65
I missed Hastings, but Poirot (and Christie) made up for his absence. What a great mystery novel. (Tip: Don‘t read Louise Penny‘s introduction in this edition until you finish the book!)
I listened to this book. I loved it! I had no clue that the person who killed Roger Ackroyd. I was so surprised. This book was intriguing and had humor in it. If you have never read an Agatha Christie book, you need to read this one. It's a classic for a reason!
🙂 Happy Reading 🙂

Time magazine compiled a list of the 100 best mystery and thriller books, and it‘s a real TBR killer! I‘ve read 23 and have several on my list already.
Be advised, if you haven‘t read the tagged book or Death on the Nile, the Lucy Worsley TV series (and, presumably, the book) contains spoilers.

Mrs. Ferrars died on the night of the 16th—17th September—a Thursday. I was sent for at eight o‘clock on the morning of Friday the 17th. There was nothing to be done.

Finally an Agatha Christie read I loved! I was worried that my goal to follow the All About Agatha podcast and read/reread all her books was a mistake. The first 9 were underwhelming. While I enjoyed some, none were stellar. The drought is over. This is the Christie I recall! The smart and hilarious Poirot! A locked room mystery. A group of interesting suspects and a twist at the end! Luckily I had no recall of my 1st reading, so no spoilers 😀
Bk11 of my #BookMail is another of Dame Agatha‘s Special Editions. Arguably one of the best twists she ever wrote, it‘s the pioneer of the “unreliable narrator” style of detective story. The day after the apparent suicide of the widow Ferrars, Poirot is called to his friend Roger Ackroyds house, where his body is discovered in a locked room. Twisty turny with a large cast of suspects. A must read for crime fans.
I decided I‘m going to create a 30 day reading challenge for myself from May 20th to June 30th how many Agatha Christie books can I read. If anyone wants to join in let me know #agathachristie
My good reads says I listened to this as an audio book 5 years ago but I‘m not remembering it anyway I just got an order of Agatha Christie from Pango books and put them in order of the series so this one was up first
Bk2 of my #BookHaul is another Dame Agatha special edition, this one is one of her most famous novels & arguably the one that made her famous. It has a locked room mystery, an unreliable narrator & a great lineup of dodgy people. And Poirot of course. If you only read a few Christie‘s in your life, this should definitely be one of them. #ChristiesCrimeClub
I think this is the first Christie I've read. She's a fave author of my husband's and I asked him which one he most wanted me to read. He picked this one and I can see why! It's one that's hard to talk about too much for fear of spoiling - but it showed why Christie is lauded as the master of her craft.
Christie is so good making the unexpected come to life! I thought I had it all figured out around 35% in… those red herrings.
There are little eggs hidden all throughout her book if you are perceptive enough to catch them. However, it wasn't until about the final 10 pages that I started really cluing in to who murdered Roger Ackroyd.

There is so much to enjoy in this book. Quick pacing and short chapters allow the narrative to flow and the read is relatively short. One might think of this as a downside, but Christie does a marvelous job at doling out information, keeping the reader totally engaged. The dialogue is an intelligent mix of serious conversation with witty banter. And the ending, while no longer a surprise, is amazing! #AgathaChristie #PushkinPress #NetGalley
Just fun to read and very clever. I really liked Hercule Poirot and will definitely read more of her books that feature him as a character.
It is the third novel to feature Hercule Poirot as the lead detective. Poirot retires to a village near the home of a friend, Roger Ackroyd, to pursue a project to perfect vegetable marrows. Soon after, Ackroyd is murdered and Poirot must come out of retirement to solve the case.

M is for Murder of course !! So many to choose from. The murder of Roger Ackroyd by the Queen of crime is a classic. Also Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. More recently I‘ve enjoyed the Moon flower murder series by Anthony Horowitz and My sister the serial killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.
A classic Agatha Christie book, and one of her early books starring Hercule Poirot, interestingly without Hastings at this side. An interesting story with quite a different ending. Definitely recommended.
My 3rd book finished for the #JoysofJune Readathon, and the 10th book for the #BigJuneReadthon.
Starting a new audiobook, one of the true all-time classics.

This is literally the first time I've ever guessed the identity of a killer before reaching the end of a mystery novel (before I'd ever reached the middle, no less). It was a thing I intuited rather than deduced, so I guess I'm most like Caroline out of all the characters 😄 I trusted that Christie would find a way to make the conclusion fit the evidence, and by God she did. After so many other mystery books and shows that rely on obfuscation or..

2. The Dragon Waiting. Unlike any other fantasy book I've read. Would love to see a sequel.

Brilliant whodunnit. The way Christie connects the whole plot webs still leaves me mesmerized, please pick it up if you have the chance to! :)
But I wish Hercule Poirot had never retired from work and come here to grow vegetable marrows.

4 1/2 🌟 because when I started reading it I quickly remembered who the murderer is, as I've watched Suchet's version too many times 😂😂😂

Great mystery all around the bush, but didn‘t leave me “wow!” This was an, oh so that‘s how it worked. Let alone I had trouble figuring the murderer because I didn‘t really believe any of them did it. It was so far open, all about truth you can verify. Which is why the closing left me confused. Yes, it makes sense when Poirot states it. The reason of murder is what got me most confused. The whole way of doing it was timed amazingly
