“If you‘re sure about something," he said, “force yourself to think about it another way, even if you know it's wrong or silly. When you read, don't consider only what the author thinks, but take time to consider what you think. You must strive to find your own voice, boys, and the longer you wait to
begin, the less likely you are to find it at all.”

This book was written after the movie. Now, I barely remember how the movie went so this book was enjoyable to me, except for poor Neil.

It‘s been so long since I‘ve seen the movie, that I totally forgot what happened. So, I decided to read the book. Despite how the book was written after the movie, it worked very well as a book , (even if just a play-by-play of the movie as other readers have mentioned), especially since being able to actually read the poetry & see how it applied to the plot allowed me to appreciate it on another level.
Since I‘m surviving a poorly planned 12 hour training session that‘s even more poorly executed (and because a refund I was waiting for came through), I got myself a few presents. Would it be wrong to watch one during the second half of training tomorrow?

I hope I got everyone tagged that recommended or discussed the tagged movie.

📖 I choose Dead Poets Society again and again and again for a prompt such as this! Poetry, classic literature, and an inspiring teacher of young minds. And the empowering advice to Seize the Day! The BEST!
🎥 So many books. It‘s usually sci-fi fantasy that I would like to see realized. I‘ll go with N. K. Jemisin‘s Broken Earth Trilogy starting with The Fifth Season, but on the small screen as a multi-episode series on Netflix.
As a fan of the movie and Robin Williams, I was disappointed to find this book to be an underwhelming, bland read. I adored the movie, but this book…. Oof… 💔
#MoviesInMay
Oh captain my captain, #RobinWilliams!
A bit late for last week‘s #LitFortuneCookie
This one brought to mind Robin Williams and The Dead Poet‘s Society. A heavy and hard hitting book! A.so a great film.

'You must strive to find your own voice because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are going to find it at all.'
I didn't read the book yet, may I quote the entire movie? 😭
@Bubisaur @xicanti @Cazxxx wanna play?
I borrowed this aid to interpretation for the Nancy-H.-Kleinbaum-novel based on the film just because I love the film so much and thought I might gain some new insights. Well, I didn‘t. Had a sleepless night and the text reads easy at 3 o‘clock in the morning so I‘m sure it serves its purpose. I mean, it‘s an interpretation aid. And you get lots of (background) information – but nothing you don‘t already know from watching the film.

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race, and the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."
Even 30 years later this scene stays relevant.

Amazing!! I can see why they put robin williams in this role!! Couldn‘t put down! Great book!
My students just turned in their film analysis essays, so I‘m preparing to rewatch a bunch of movies before I start grading. Here‘s the batch I got from the library today.

John Keating
Robin Williams played English teacher, John Keating in the 1989 film, Dead Poet‘s Society.

This quote came to mind for today‘s prompt, although it was a movie first that was later adapted into a novel.
But I love the movie, which always makes me cry. Who doesn‘t love Robin Williams portrayal of John Keating?! ❤️ Plus, poetry! #NationalPoetryMonth
“O‘ captain my captain!”
The story itself is of course great, but a book which is written after a movie isn't a good idea.
I really love the movie, but the book leaves many episodes of the movie, which are very important in my opinion.
Some thoughts aren't expressed good enough in this short (160 pages) book, it could have been better.
I will watch the movie again in a few days. 😊
Got a new panini sticker album. It's about the region, where I live. After I placed the stickers, I will enjoy my #fridayreads.
My mom retired from teaching this week. 42 years of teaching every grade (except 2nd), most recently with a focus on English/language arts to eleventh and twelfth graders. Anyone who tells you teachers don‘t matter has never seen the difference my mom made in thousands of kids‘ lives.
How can you hear the words #SeizeTheDay without bringing to mind Robin Williams' speech in Dead Poets Society. What a speech, what a film, what a man. Truly inspirational! Rest in peace Robin, you are greatly missed. #MelodiousMusicals

#DPS5 From @jdtchicago William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Anne Sexton, WB Yeats, ee cummings
#dps51
@jdtchicago favorite poet: I must say i think objectively Shaeskpeare is the more important poet but I must admit his sonnets don't do much for me.😙
In truth, I only like Frost and Dickinson as English language poets. They remind me of Machado and the best of Lorca
#dps5 @jdtchicago
Only five?! What blasphemy is this? 😉 I can't look all the others in the eye right now.
Anyway.... I've chosen Shelley, Tsvetaeva, Milton, Chaucer and Rumi.

So avoid using the word ‘very‘ because it‘s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don‘t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do. It also won‘t do in your essays.
