Dead Poets Society
Dead Poets Society | N. H. Kleinbaum
Todd Anderson and his friends at Welton Academy can hardly believe how different life is since their new English professor, the flamboyant John Keating, has challenged them to "make your lives extraordinary! Inspired by Keating, the boys resurrect the Dead Poets Society--a secret club where, free from the constraints and expectations of school and parents, they let their passions run wild. As Keating turns the boys on to the great words of Byron, Shelley, and Keats, they discover not only the beauty of language, but the importance of making each moment count. But the Dead Poets pledges soon realize that their newfound freedom can have tragic consequences. Can the club and the individuality it inspires survive the pressure from authorities determined to destroy their dreams?

This book was written after the movie. Now, I barely remember how the movie went so this book was enjoyable to me, except for poor Neil.

It‘s been so long since I‘ve seen the movie, that I totally forgot what happened. So, I decided to read the book. Despite how the book was written after the movie, it worked very well as a book , (even if just a play-by-play of the movie as other readers have mentioned), especially since being able to actually read the poetry & see how it applied to the plot allowed me to appreciate it on another level.

Cathythoughts I loved the movie … book sounds like a good one to read ❤️👍 2y
Jess_Franzino @Cathythoughts It‘s pretty much word-for-word the movie , but with a movie that connected with literature, it lends well to being a book, even without anything extra added. 2y

#Two4Tuesday

📖 I choose Dead Poets Society again and again and again for a prompt such as this! Poetry, classic literature, and an inspiring teacher of young minds. And the empowering advice to Seize the Day! The BEST!

🎥 So many books. It‘s usually sci-fi fantasy that I would like to see realized. I‘ll go with N. K. Jemisin‘s Broken Earth Trilogy starting with The Fifth Season, but on the small screen as a multi-episode series on Netflix.

TheBookHippie My letter to you went out this morning in the mailbox! 3y

I borrowed this aid to interpretation for the Nancy-H.-Kleinbaum-novel based on the film just because I love the film so much and thought I might gain some new insights. Well, I didn‘t. Had a sleepless night and the text reads easy at 3 o‘clock in the morning so I‘m sure it serves its purpose. I mean, it‘s an interpretation aid. And you get lots of (background) information – but nothing you don‘t already know from watching the film.

The story itself is of course great, but a book which is written after a movie isn't a good idea.

I really love the movie, but the book leaves many episodes of the movie, which are very important in my opinion.

Some thoughts aren't expressed good enough in this short (160 pages) book, it could have been better.

I will watch the movie again in a few days. 😊

readinginthedark Was it written after the movie? 😯I thought the movie was based on the book! I don‘t usually like the ones based on movies; they always leave some background to be desired. 6y
Sarah83 @readinginthedark In the German edition is written, 'the book to the movie'. In most cases this shows, that the book was written after the movie. 6y
