Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You Give a F**k | Thug Kitchen
56 posts | 50 read | 51 to read
Thug Kitchen started their wildly popular website to inspire people to eat some Goddamn vegetables and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Beloved by Gwyneth Paltrow ('This might be my favorite thing ever') and with half a million Facebook fans and counting, Thug Kitchen wants to show everyone how to take charge of their plates and cook up some real f*cking food.Yeah, plenty of blogs and cookbooks preach about how to eat more kale, why ginger fights inflammation, and how to cook with microgreens and nettles. But they are dull or pretentious as hell -and most people can't afford the hype.Thug Kitchen lives in the real world. In their first cookbook, they're throwing down more than 100 recipes for their best-loved meals, snacks and sides for beginning cooks to home chefs. (Roasted Beer and Lime Cauliflower Tacos? Pumpkin Chili? Grilled Peach Salsa? Believe that sh*t.) Plus they're going to arm you with all the info and techniques you need to shop on a budget and go and kick a bunch of ass on your own. This book is an invitation to everyone who wants to do better to elevate their kitchen game. No more ketchup and pizza counting as vegetables. No more drive-thru lines. No more avoiding the produce corner of the supermarket. Sh*t is about to get real.

1. Just checked with Mum, and she said a veterinarian who takes care of only cats.
2. Get up immediatly! I can't fall back asleep that fast so just lay there dreading the sound if I hit snooze. And I HATE alarm sounds so have a pleasant song instead.
3. You can't go wrong feeding people, whether as a host, bringing treats to work, or donating to a cause. I tagged one of my fav cooking for guests cookbooks.
4. I like green and purple.

I very rarely bake, but these muffins were highly recommended by my buddy @Eyelit . I think they came from this cookbook? Anyway, they are Peanut Butter and Banana muffins, and they smell amazing. I can‘t wait until they cool down a bit so I can try one.
😋 (ps they‘re vegan! Don‘t tell my husband or he won‘t like them on principle, 🤣)

#MagicalMay Day 21: This book is perfect for the #FoodOnCover prompt. Fats‘ review: “The idea behind a “thug life” always makes me and Daniel laugh, so this vegan recipe book was a treat! I borrowed this book for the title alone. Reading it was a delight, although it tends to sound over the top sometimes. Although I haven‘t tried them yet, the recipes in this book sound delicious.” Full feature here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-9Eu

I‘ve been waiting a while to get my hands on these! I‘m a wannabe vegan still trying to rustle up the fortitude to go vegetarian, so I‘m hoping for some inspiration. I‘m not sure why there‘s so much vulgar language, but it‘s surprisingly entertaining to read through all the same. 😄

@miralunasbooknook Here are just a few recipes from the book if it‘s helpful. They looked like items you might be interested in but they also have a lot of things like tacos and burritos that maybe wouldn‘t work for you. This first book in their series (do you all successive cookbooks a series?) has a bit of everything (starters, salads, soups, mains, desserts).

I don‘t care about any “thug” controversy, it‘s not why I perused the book in the first place. I‘m here for the recipes and there are some pretty good ones. I think this would be a decent, albeit not necessary, cookbook to have in your library, whether you‘re a vegan or not.

I know everyone says their library is the best, but I think mine is REALLY the best. Since the hubs' cholesterol is out of control due to genetics, we are opting for a plant based diet to try to lower those levels. I‘ve been slowly incorporating more veggies and health into my diet. Last year, when I decided to adopt a “more vegan” lifestyle, I found out that I was pregnant and had HG, because of course. I could only tolerate salami sandwiches and grits for about 4 months. This cookbook is equal parts hilarious and helpful. Any vegetarian/vegan Littens who‘d like to throw in some tips or recipes for my new journey, they‘d be greatly appreciated. 😙

mangokittty I‘m not vegetarian or vegan, but I ate this as a snack and it was super yummy. https://www.loveandzest.com/edamame-cranberry-feta-salad (edited) 7y
winemom I love edamame and cranberries, but I‘ve never had feta cheese! I didn‘t really voluntarily eat cheese for, like, half of my life, so I‘m still exploring tastes. I‘ll def add it to my menu! It sounds delish! Thank you! @mangokittty 7y
mangokittty @winemom cheese is such a strange thing. Some are fantastic and others are not so much. If you‘ve ever tried goat cheese I find feta has a kind of similar taste. It‘s definitely a yummy snack. 👍🏻👍🏻 7y

Bought three gifts today, and got home and realized they're all WRONG! Two for my #SummerSantaGoesPostal - one book that I just discovered they've already read, and a bookish treat based on a book they actually haven't. I got confused 😕.
Then I got this cookbook for my cousin, not realizing it's vegan. She is not vegan. She will love that the recipes are peppered with F bombs, though, so we shall see. Thank God for gift receipts.

JanuarieTimewalker13 @Eyelit I forgot to mention they are spelt blueberry pancakes...I love spelt! 8y
Jess_Read_This @JanuarieTimewalker13 I will keep those tips in mind! We've been eating vegetarian for a month now with a hopeful transition to primarily vegan. I'm always looking for new recipes and ideas. 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Jess_Read_This oh that is great!!! My journey was a weird, long one...I gave up pork in 1995, with one slip up in 1997, gave up beef for about 5 years in maybe 2004, then went back to beef (slightly), then I educated myself to the suffering of these animals and how plant based is so much better, so I went pescetarian in 2010, with vegan days...then totally vegan in 2012...bc I thought fish deserved to live also, in addition to the suffering 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Diary cows....and I'm so happy that I did it. I feel "right" now. I can't explain it...I don't want animals in my body, ever again. Because I can easily be friends with a cow, pig, chicken...and really, who wants to eat their friends and mammalian cousins? Good luck on your journey!! It's certainly a compassionate one? 8y
Jess_Read_This Well said! I'm feeling so lucky that my husband is so supportive and willing to try this change along w me. I grew up vegetarian, but slowly migrated away. Last month, I just lost the urge to eat meat. I just couldn't live w myself if a creature had to die for my quick meal. It seems so wrong. And I feel great so far, it's more of a peaceful feeling. And I've been cutting back on dairy as well. 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Jess_Read_This that is great!! And I love that your husband is onboard. My niece is trying to transition, and she's the cook, so her boyfriend follows to an extent, but he's adamant about eating meat. It's so great to have a partner like yours that is willing to give it a try! There's so many great options nowadays that weren't around years back..I love gardein burgers with Heidi Ho chia cheeze...I melt it right on and I put onion pickle ketchup 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Etc, and if you served that to somebody, they'd never know the difference!! That cheese is also great for nachos...I never feel deprived a day in my life. I feel good! 8y
