I didn't even make it through the prologue.
I didn't even make it through the prologue.
This book was like HP Lovecraft on LSD and Shrooms. Over the top weirdness.
I really love this book so I‘m using it for the #Skeleton/Bones prompt for #Scarathlon It‘s also a fun movie if you‘re looking for something funny. #SkeletonCrew @Emilymdxn @Clwojick @StayCurious
I kept saying “ehhh I don‘t know if I‘ll keep reading,” but I did so that says something.
I really wanted to like this book. I read it with my husband, thinking it was up both our alleys - his for the horror and mine for the weird sci fi.
It was good until about halfway through. Then it became a slog to the finish for both of us. Have you ever played Candy Land with a small child who kept adding rules so that the game would never end? This felt exactly like that.

My first book of 2023 was a doozy!
This is one of the strangest books I have ever read, and I couldn‘t have enjoyed it more. It‘s creepy, fantastical, horrific, and completely unique — picture a humorous Lovecraft novel. I know it won‘t appeal to everyone but, if you like weirdness, this is your book.
“STOP. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages.”
Got a bunch of busy work to do in the office today & my boss isn't in so I'm going to hopefully ignore as many people as possible and listen up!!!

Day 233.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
Next up is my #DoubleSpin 🤗🤗
I've been meaning to read this book for a while, so I couldn't resist when I saw it in a little free library. It was fun and weird and I look forward to reading the next in the series.
I think it's safe to say that if this happens on any account, trust is the least of worries. lol
Let's say you have an ax. Just a cheap one, from Home Depot. On one bitter winter day, you use said ax to behead a man. Don't worry, the man was already dead. Or maybe you should worry, because you're the one who shot him.
Fred said, “Man, I think he‘s gonna make a fuckin‘ suit of human skin, using the best parts from each of us.”
“Holy crap,” said John. “He‘ll be gorgeous.
Hello, killscene. No. Bailed in Chapter 1.
Summary: Twenty-year-old stoner dudebros fight Lovecraftian creatures. John is not the narrator's name. This reader thinks it's all stupid. News at eleven!
I read this book back in 2007 when it came out and just read it again after all that time. It‘s a crazy story that pretty much makes no sense at the same time as making all the sense in the world. From the soy sauce and the freezer meat monster, to the bratwurst incident and parallel dimensions, this book messes with your head. Great book!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For my first quarantine read, I wanted something odd, and boy did this book deliver. It‘s both funny & dark, & much of what happens is never fully explained. But that‘s also the charm of it. We as the reader only know what the characters know and let‘s face it, neither John nor David are the smartest or most reliable narrators. However something about them and the memorable supporting characters is still endearing enough to keep you invested.
i‘m panning! ugh i hate to do it but i‘m not in the mood for something so all over the place (does this book even have a plot?) i promise i‘ll revisit u later
okay, i‘m only at the forward and preface and it‘s already really good 😂

Day 7 of #30DayBookChallenge is a book to listen to on a trip. The Hubs and I have done the Potter books, but this is a more recent one we both enjoyed!
Wonderful, confusing and humorous. Has similar existential elements to Kraken while mixing it with fast-paced action and comedy
What a fun story to go through. It's both terrifying and hilarious. After finishing this one I just had to start the next in the series.
If you like horror (and probably a few penis jokes) give this a read!
The image on the bottom right corner of the cover accurately reflects how I feel about this book. It was not for me. I can see its appeal for others and maybe it would have been better in print rather than audio. I listened to the second half at 1.5X speed, so maybe I would have bailed in print. I was just annoyed by the “drunk guy” humor and mad I bought the whole series. 🤦🏻♀️ At least it counts for MountTBR and #Screamathon.
Starting this one today on audio. So far, it‘s cracking me up, even though it‘s not at all what I expected and is a little rude. 😂

Saw the movie some time ago and enjoyed it. Started reading the book and I think I enjoy it even more. Can't wait to get deeper into it!
I loved the off the wall humor. Reminds me of Douglas Adams, just more vulgar.
Or sometimes longer 😩
There are no words lol 😂 this book was insane
It‘s over the place and funny. Not really my kind of book but a friend recommended it.
Reading this per my friend‘s recommendation. I don‘t know about it yet. I‘m not far in but it‘s weird lol.
I started this book around midnight last night, then read today for an hour in a really hot bath with a sinus headache and a beer. I watched the movie a while back and I can‘t tell if I‘m remembering that or if I‘ve actually read this before, and it‘s kind of unsettling because it‘s a weird book. I really I shouldn‘t read it when I‘m not quite with it. Pictured with my unfiltered real life messy weird living room situation.
So I have mixed feelings about this. I don‘t read a lot of horror, but I really liked this for the wackiness and the humor. However, the plot was ALL over the place (you can tell it was self published), and all the offensive language kinda ruined it for me a bit. In context, maybe it makes sense to have it, but I didn‘t feel like it added anything.
This book is the funniest, weirdest, grossest, most ridiculous (in a great way!) book I think I've ever read. And I've loved every word of it! On to the second one... #JohnDiesAtTheEnd #ThomasDunneBooks #WeirdBooksMakeMeHappy
My favorite October read of all time! If you want something both incredibly funny and disturbing, this book is the one.
I first read this back in 2006 when it was a web serial. It's still great.
Wacky premise with two likable frat boy types who have a truly offbeat friendship and are tasked with saving the world. You will either find this funny and engaging or think it‘s stupid.
Spoilers! Geez! A very well written, insane journey of messing with eldritch powers beyond our mortal ken all while maintaining a hilarious tone and sense of humor. Still at times dark without pulling too much mood whiplash and a very clever twist that will have you going back to read and see if you missed the signs along the way. Squidapus found this book had just enough tentacles to keep him satisfied and was solidly consistent beginning to end.
About 1/3 of the way through, I just don't care about any of it
