1. I love the word empathy. What it means and how it sounds 😍
2. If I love the series, as many as possible! Hard to pick a a favorite, I ❤️ the Veronica Speedwell series, the Cormoran Strike series and the Barenuckle Bastards series. And Harry Potter 😍
3. I write a little, short stories for myself. @Lifeisasnap

"He insisted upon extracting a promise from me that I would go straight to bed & not tax my strength further. I gave it to him because, in my experience, it is far better to tell a man what he wants to hear & then do as you please than attempt to reason with him."
Well, I've discovered my latest favorite female protagonist. I love Veronica Speedwell!
⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Check out my score from the library book sale! It wasn‘t until I got home that I realized everything I bought is blue. Strange.
I came close to bailing on this book because the first third was ABSURD! But I listened to the litsy love for it and persevered. It frequently made me laugh so I ended up enjoying it but I don't feel particularly drawn to the rest of the series. I do have the next book on kindle so perhaps sometime I'll give it a chance.
I've just started this and already Veronica and Stoker strongly remind me of Amelia Peabody and her Dear Emerson. Am I off base or do others see that too?
Not my usual type of mystery, but a fun read, and after The Great Believers, I needed fluff. Veronica Speedwell is an Interesting new (to me) character. And what a secret!
I‘ve already requested the next from the Library.
Fun and unexpectedly witty! I loved the strong female main character. She is seriously smart, self sufficient, knows exactly who she is and you can take it or leave it. Great role model material! I have heard great things about this series. Glad I tried it out!
So good! Delightful, charming and so much fun! Mistaken identity, a brilliant scientist, a dark and complicated hero, and the Queen‘s Jubilee make for an entertaining read! I can‘t wait to read the next one! #MountTBR
#7Days7Covers #CoverCrush Day 1. Thanks @robinb for the tag. I tag @Nevermore88 if she'd like to participate.
3rd hotel in 4 days. A quiet moment to read while Hurricane Imelda rolls into Houston. #travellingreader
When your book matches the hotel furniture! Really enjoying this book!
As I suspected this was just meh for me.
Going to dive into for the MMDBookClub. These types are not typically my jam, but going to give it a shot.
So enjoying this fun, surprising story! Cuddled up in my hotel room, reading away! #travellingreader
A Curious Beginning is a cozy mystery/romance set in Victorian era England. I was particularly fond of the main characters, Veronica and Stoker‘s, humorous banter. In fact, I liked the vivid writing style throughout and the mystery is, indeed, “curious”. I will definitely be seeking out more from this author.
ModernMrsDarcy.com #MMD pick for September 2019
Same book but two totally different covers. I like the first (blue) one best.
This was fun! I doubt I would have read it if it wasn‘t the #mmdbookclub September pick. The mystery was interesting, with a twist I didn‘t see coming. The relationship between the lepidopterist and the natural historian was interesting and made me smile. I also admire Veronica‘s independence and desire for an adventure. She‘s pretty unflappable! #ModernMrsDarcy
I never had the least intention of reading a Veronica Speedwell mystery, but when it‘s a Modern Mrs Darcy book club pick, well, what choice do you have? I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it, although it was a bit corny in places. I guessed Veronica‘s secret before the reveal, and kind of knew what the resolution would be, but it was a fun read. #mmdbookclub @annebogel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I ❤️ this series! If you haven‘t started it yet, this sale today for the ebook version of book 1 should be hard to resist.
5⭐️. I really enjoyed this fun and entertaining mystery. It‘s a first book in a series featuring a lepidopterist and a natural historian as amateur sleuths. In this one a big secret leads to an exciting cat and mouse chase involving murder and abduction, a secret which could change the course of history. It‘s humorous with some great characters and kept me turning the pages. I‘ve already downloaded the next book.
This is absolutely enchanting and altogether delightful. Taking in as an audiobook and will now devour the whole series!
Library haul! I‘m already halfway through Reader, I Married Him—stories inspired by Jane Eyre. Yes, please!
This book was great fun! I loved the fiesty Veronica and the mysterious Stoker, and the tension and witty banter between them was perfect. I felt that the end was a tad anti climactic, but not enough for me to feel disappointed. The narration of this on Audible was also well done. I have the next one in the series already downloaded and ready to go! ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Seems that the back of ladies in period dress is the latest cover fad. But what a cover!
One chapter in & I already love the protagonist. And who isn't interested in a character named Baron Maximilian von Stauffenbach? 😉

Veronica is unashamedly herself throughout her interactions with others. She and Stoker made a good team. Plenty of humor and action kept the book moving along.
Closing out the day with a cup of tea and a new book. 📚🍵😊
Really loved this! Took me a little while to get into the plot but I love love LOVED the characters!
Annnnnnnnnnnnd for some reason I need to reread book one of my favourite series 🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷
This was awesome fun! There were times when I felt that Veronica was the archetypical Intrepid British Spinster that is so easily found in this genre. But her more obvious characteristics aside, I thoroughly enjoyed her interactions with the grumpy bear that was Stoker! The plot was more thriller than mystery, rolled into a playfully romantic romp. It was thoroughly enjoyable, written with a delightful sense of humor. A cute, summery read. ★★★★☆.
#currentlyreading | officially have nothing on my to do list for at least a month, so excited to fill it up with books!
Just starting this!🥰
I absolutely LOVED everything about this book! The characters were fascinating, the mystery, the history, it was all splendid! On my way to find more by Deanna Raybourn.....😊
Is this considered mystery? Cozy mystery? This is one of my sub genre comfort reads- whatever it falls in. I love the characters. I think more background and depth would have been good, but I still enjoyed the story as it was. Thank you @mabell for this book!
My sweet daughter made us some tea courtesy of @cobwebmoth and @TK421 , in the lovely cup also from Laura, while reading my book from @mabell . Thank you friends for this moment of perfect self care.
More reading time than I originally planned today. Oldest son broke 2 bones in his wrist on his first day of summer camp and we‘re at the 2nd of 2 hospitals. He‘s doing ok and the pain has subsided, we‘re both just ready to go home.
Update: He had a successful reduction (bone resetting) & surgery avoided. We got home about 3 am the next morning. As we checked out he told the nurses, “he had fun”. He‘s adjusting well. Pic taken upon discharge.
#BreakfastAndABook before a morning meeting. Finally starting this #secretsantagoespostal gift from @Bookcation74 #TreatYoself
1. The entire Veronica Speedwell series
2. Yesterday on the lake
3. Tex Mex
4. Yes...no clue how many though which I find sad but we‘ve lost touch with my father‘s family.
5. ❤️
