I waited a long time to read this because the story sounded like a tearjerker&what a tearjerker it is.But it is so beautifully written,a joy to read each sentence, the characters are all wonderfully developed, deep&rich. The plot draws you in,the ending is satisfying. Themes are love, parenthood, loss, betrayal, war, forgiveness. What a wonderful book but oh so sad, so incredibly sad.
I won‘t forget this one anytime soon. Beautiful writing, heartbreaking story. Loved it. #LitsyLoveReads

Really interesting and a tear jerker!

This was my March #bookspin. I enjoyed the story. Been reading it the entire day yesterday. Started to hate Isabel's behaviour. But then again had to cry at the ending. Really a story without any winners.
TBR since August 3rd. 2018; 343 pages.
@TheAromaofBooks
A great lil story. Read a lot of reviews stating this as a story of good people who made a mistake. Which is true, but the main element I took from this book was forgiveness. Of people, their mistakes, and their own mistakes. And how necessary it is in order to move foreword. Precious! 💝
Started off kind of slow, but currently loving it. About 100 pages to go!
This is a beautifully written book about the consequences of bad decisions and also about the power of forgiveness. I was initially worried that I might not enjoy it given all of the mixed reviews, but I truly did. I felt every different emotion throughout and as I approached the end, I had no idea how things would end up. But I loved it. A brilliant read. Tom Sherbourne is a wonderful character.
Started this book this morning. I bought it several years ago because of the lovely cover but I‘m just now getting around to reading it. The writing is beautiful and it plays out like a movie in my head. But I have a feeling it will have some very sad moments based on some of the reviews I‘ve seen in the past.
This is one of my favourite books. If you haven‘t read it then you can get a copy for 99p in the U.K. worth checking elsewhere.
Just bring tissues and be ready for the moral and ethical questions it gets you pondering on. 😢😭😢😭😢😭

Tom, a lighthouse keeper and his wife make the decision to keep a child who washed up on shore.
This story would not have bothered me prior to being a mom, but as a mom, this story bothered me so much based on the decisions of Tom and his wife. It‘s a good story though.
( 👍) Finally finished this one! We had 4 weeks of visitors so it was harder to find time to read. This is such a heartbreakingly beautiful story. I saw the movie several years back and absolutely loved it so I knew I wanted to read the book. It didn't disappoint.
This is two parts melodrama and one part mystery. Not so much whodunit but a wondering how they‘ll resolve an unthinkable dilemma. There‘s a side helping of character study since this is such a unique time, place, and situation. Stedman is a first-time author who skillfully blends all these elements. I hope she writing more!

Loved this book.
What a beautiful man Tom was.
Lots of tears at the end
Man, what a good, heavy book. I was so wrapped up in Isabel & Tom‘s world that I was legitimately sad for the next 24 hours after I finished the book. I still can‘t decide who my loyalty lied with, but I‘m happy with how the book ended. ❤️❤️ thanks for the read, @shanaymayer
Behind again!! I tried to catch the beautiful sunrise 🌅

Today I‘m waist deep trying to keep the anxiety from sweeping me out to sea. Protocol calls for kittens, cozy blankets, lots of books, and the bare minimum at work. I can‘t believe I put this book off for so long. Captivating and emotional historical fiction.
+6 for #teamslaughter
This took me a while to get into but when I did I loved it. Historical fiction doesn‘t often grab me, I worry it will be too melodramatic, but I‘m grateful I stuck with it. the characters were believable and deep even in heightened situations, and the writing was very quietly beautiful. Tom stuck with me so much, I could have read about him forever and the final few pages with him had me holding my breath. Does anyone know if the movie is good?
Morning from rainy London. Woke up early so I‘m letting my bf sleep and have come to the kitchen to chain drink coffee, bundled up in layers cause the kitchen window is having a mood.
My mental health always seems to attack me in the morning, it‘s like depression gets invigorated by a nights rest and has lots of energy to mess with me. This book is a great companion, just the right amount easy to read and emotionally challenging.
Yesterday was not the best day, but I ended it by taking myself out for chicken and chips to read on my own. I‘m trying to improve my confidence going out for food on my own! The waiter gave me an odd look when I was like no I‘m not waiting for anyone, but it was lovely to get out of the flat.
Thank you fir the tag @katy4peas ; I enjoy playing #ThoughtfulThursday
1. Tag book. Such a poignant story 5⭐️
2. O! So much! Time spent with my 13 yo son discussing his view of life and listening to his favorite music 🎶
3. I can‘t stop the feeling by Justin Timberlake gets me every time 🎶💃🏻☀️
@Cathythoughts would you enjoy playing? 🙂
Whew. Tear-jerker... especially being a mom, parts of this were hard to take in. So good. So heartbreaking.
This has been sitting on my shelves for years. I can‘t even remember where it came from.
What a well written and devastating story of love and loss.
The tiny island of Janus off the coast of Australia is almost its own character, as is the lighthouse there. The little family that lived there tried my ideas of right and wrong and had me reaching for tissues.
I haven‘t seen the movie. I might look for it.
A lighthouse keeper and his wife find a boat washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby...is it #serendipity? Or a tragedy for someone‘s kin..

Read this in 2016 and enjoyed it very much.
What a story. Full of love and devastation.
A book where, it seems there's no chance for a happy ending for any of the characters.
I didn't like any of the characters, except Lucy, Hannah and Lucy's grandfather.
Yes people are complicated but IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO CALL THE AUTHORITIES IF YOU FOUND A BABY!
I just can't forgive Tom and Isabel.
This book was beautifully written, I'm very glad I read it. I was just frustrated the whole way through.
Beautifully written, but at the same time, difficult to read. I shed some tears long before the end of this one.
This book was so wonderful but totally #RippedMyHeartOut. Some great moral questions in this one, but had me in tears so on the edge of tears at so many points in the book. As for the ending scene! 😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢 So want to read this again!

#coupdecoeur💚 The story will stay with me forever. Sometimes we can only chose between a bad choice and a bad choice. Life is not black and white.
Soul breaking story. I had much compassion for Isabel and Tom. I connected to where all the characters stood in there decisions and felt there desires & distress. I have nothing but empathie for them all and their sorrows.

Spending the evening with Felix snoozing on my lap while reading a new story... It seems I'm finally in luck again as I'm enjoying it so far (I'm at 20%). 🐱📖
Thank you so much for the early birthday present @AmyK1 you are the sweetest and this had livened up my day so much! Litsy people really are the absolute best!
